Gilbert worked in San Francisco as a bookkeeper in 1880–85 and after that time as an artist through 1894.
Although rare, his works include landscapes, marines, and mining genre.
In collections of: Oakland Museum; Fort Point Museum (SF); Haggin Museum (Stockton)."
