N-acetylpolyamine oxidase (EC 1.5.3.13 , hPAO-1 , mPAO , hPAO ) is an enzyme with systematic name N-acetylpolyamine:oxygen oxidoreductase (3-acetamidopropanal-forming) . This enzyme catalyses the following chemical reaction
(1) N-acetylspermidine + O2 + H2 O
⇌
{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons }
putrescine + 3-acetamidopropanal + H2 O2
(2) N-acetylspermine + O2 + H2 O
⇌
{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons }
spermidine + 3-acetamidopropanal + H2 O2
This enzyme also catalyses the reaction:
N,N-diacetylspermine + O2 + H2 O
⇌
{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons }
N1 -acetylspermidine + 3-acetamamidopropanal + H2 O2 .
