Therme Group is a chain of spa, sauna, and indoor water park complexes with locations across Europe. The company operates a location in Bucharest, Romania and has plans to open resorts in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. Therme Group announced in July 2024 that works will begin on Therme Manchester in 2025, with other locations set to be announced. The Bucharest location is one of Romania's most popular attractions for foreign tourists. In addition, in 2024 they bought the Therme Erding.

That process has now come to an end with the selection of Austrian resort developer Therme Therme specializes in the development of massive indoor spas and will be responsible for creating a new 'all-season destination' on the western portion of the site that will include pools, waterslides and botanical gardens, officials say. There will also be eight acres of 'free, publicly accessible gathering spaces, outdoor gardens and public beaches' located directly outside the new facility.

D.C. leaders and the U.S. branch of the Therme Group, a wellness company with global headquarters in Vienna, Austria, agreed to work together to identify a site that could accommodate a 450,000-to-600,000-square-foot resort, officials said.

Therme Manchester - billed as the UK's first "city-based wellbeing resort" - includes swimming pools, slides, warm water lagoons, saunas and gardens. The German-based Therme Group said the development, next to the Trafford Centre, is scheduled to open in 2025.
