'''MyWikiBiz''' is a ] directory that allows people and enterprises to write about themselves. The brand began as a service creating ] articles for paying ]s; the founder and owner of MyWikiBiz, Gregory Kohs, was soon blocked from Misplaced Pages.<ref name="chron">{{cite journal|url=http://chronicle.com/wiredcampus/article/1831/wikipedia-blocks-a-pay-for-play-scheme|title=Misplaced Pages Blocks a Pay-for-Play Scheme|journal=]|date=2007-01-24|last=Read|first=Brock|accessdate=2008-08-27}}</ref>

==History==
Kohs and his sister started the MyWikiBiz venture in July 2006, as a paid editing service, writing content for inclusion in ] and other community-edited sites. Kohs charged between $49 and $99 USD for articles.<ref name="msnbc">{{cite web|url=http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16793247/|title=Idea of paid entries roils Misplaced Pages|authorlink=Brian_Bergstein|last=Bergstein|first=Brian|date=2007-01-24|accessdate=2008-08-20|publisher=]/]}}</ref>
At the time, though it was widely known that Misplaced Pages was used by corporations and public relations firms, such contributions were often hidden, only to be discovered later.<ref name="welt">{{cite news|url=https://www.welt.de/wirtschaft/article147789/Wikipedia-Artikel_die_man_kaufen_kann.html|title=Misplaced Pages-Artikel, die man kaufen kann (Misplaced Pages articles that you can buy)|newspaper=]|language=German|first=Mathias|last=Peer|date=2006-08-24|accessdate=2008-08-20}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.zdnet.fr/actualites/internet/0,39020774,39362654,00.htm|title=Misplaced Pages, nouvel enjeu de relations publiques (Misplaced Pages, a new issue of public relations)|publisher=]|accessdate=2008-08-27|date=2006-08-11|last=Noisette|first=Thierry|language=French}}</ref> Misplaced Pages co-founder ] expressed opposition to the idea of a paid editing service.<ref name="msnbc" />

A few days after MyWikiBiz was launched, the site's user account was blocked by Wales on the grounds of "paid editing on behalf of customers". It was one of the few such blocks personally by Wales in Misplaced Pages's history.<ref name="zittrain" /> Wales viewed the problem as one of "conflict of interest and the appearance of impropriety arising from editors being paid to write by the subjects of the articles".<ref name="zittrain" /> He and Kohs reached an agreement, under which Kohs could create "Misplaced Pages-like" articles on his site and that they could then be "scraped" to Misplaced Pages by Misplaced Pages editors. The agreement soon unraveled, and Kohs was blocked from editing Misplaced Pages.<ref name="msnbc" /><ref name="zittrain" />

In his book ''The Future of the Internet – And How to Stop It'', ] said that Wales believed that MyWikiBiz had been "spamming Misplaced Pages with corporate advertisements rather than 'neutral point of view' articles", but also that MyWikiBiz persuaded some Wikipedians to lower objections to an article merely because of its source.<ref name="zittrain">{{cite book|url=https://archive.org/details/futureofinternet00zitt|title=The Future of the Internet – And How to Stop It|page=140|year=2008|publisher=] Press|authorlink=Jonathan_Zittrain|last=Zittrain|first=Jonathan|isbn=0-300-12487-2|url-access=registration}}</ref>

''The Chronicle of Higher Education'' said "it's hard to feel too bad for MyWikiBiz," and that "if the encyclopedia is serious about gaining acceptance from academe, surely it has a vested interest in dissuading companies from paying to improve their presence on the site."<ref name="chron" />

In late October 2006, Kohs formed a partnership to promote and market a wiki-based directory at Centiare.com,<ref name="msnbc" /><ref name="sbwire">{{cite web|url=http://www.sbwire.com/news/view/9912|title=Centiare on the heels of Misplaced Pages|date=2007-01-05|accessdate=2008-08-20|publisher=press release}}</ref> after which Kohs moved its contents to MyWikiBiz.com.<ref>{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=VsZOIOerAa0C&pg=PA58&dq=Centiare+to+MyWikiBiz.com&hl=en&sa=X&ei=wkOtUbG2MvDlyAGr74HAAg&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=Centiare%20to%20MyWikiBiz.com&f=false |title=Semantic Digital Libraries |page=58 |editor1=Sebastian Ryszard Kruk |editor2=Bill McDaniel |editor3=W. Redirect to:

This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
  • To a related topic: This is a redirect to an article about a similar topic.
    • Redirects from related topics are different than redirects from related words, because a related topic is more likely to warrant a full and detailed description in the target article. If this redirect's subject is notable, then also tag it with {{R with possibilities}} and {{R printworthy}}.
  • With history: This is a redirect from a page containing substantive page history. This page is kept as a redirect to preserve its former content and attributions. Please do not remove the tag that generates this text (unless the need to recreate content on this page has been demonstrated), nor delete this page.
    • This template should not be used for redirects having some edit history but no meaningful content in their previous versions, nor for redirects created as a result of a page merge (use {{R from merge}} instead), nor for redirects from a title that forms a historic part of Misplaced Pages (use {{R with old history}} instead).
  • With possibilities: This is a redirect from a title that potentially could be expanded into a new article or other type of associated page such as a new template. The topic described by this title may be more detailed than is currently provided on the target page or in a section of that page.
    • When the target page becomes too large, or for any reason a new page would be an improvement, this redirect may be replaced with an article, template or other project page that is carved out of the target page. See also {{R to section}} and use together with this rcat when appropriate.
    • If the topic of the redirect is not susceptible to expansion, then use other rcats such as {{R to section}} or {{R to list entry}} when appropriate.
    • Since a new page may be created, links to this redirect should not be replaced with a direct link to the target page. To make redirects to this page, use {{R avoided double redirect}}.
    • {{R printworthy}} should be used together with this template when applied to a redirect in mainspace.
    • When used on a template redirect, it will automatically populate Category:Template redirects with possibilities.
When appropriate, protection levels are automatically sensed, described and categorized.
