Persians are Iran’s single largest ethnic group, yet the article try to dismiss the Persian ethnicity as non-existent and replace is with a vague concept of 'Persian identity'. It is |
sanitized form of denying the existence of Persians as a distinctive ethnic group to further political motives; The Article is extremely biased and seems to be written with a political agenda which does not comply with Wikipedias standards. |
The article further contains factually wrong statements that equals Persian people with 'Tajiks' who are of a different ethnicity but speak Persian accent (Dari). The 'sources’ are of political origin that accuse Persians of racism and chauvinism. |

Every other demographical group in Iran is represented by a racial-definition except Persians. It is very easy to conform that Persians do exist as a distinct ethnic group, The CIA factbook lists Persians as the ethnic majority in Iran. |
The article has been redirected t from the neutral article 'Persian people' to a political constructed article called 'Persian identity’. This article is unique because no other people are described in this fashion. |

'''I purpose the deletation of this article''' |
This 'article' is of little factual value, it as close as explicit propaganda as you can come. The Persians are alongside with the Medes one of Iran’s oldest ethnic groups of the Iranian plate, mentioned in Ancient Assyrian sources and by Ancient Greek historians like Herodotus. The CIA Factbook list Persians as Iran’s largest ethnic group (51%). Also there have existed several dynasties called the Persian Empire. |
The attempt to rebrand Persians as a language 'identity' and in the process deleting the Persian people as a distinctive ethnic group from history and minds is revisionist, deceitful and fraudulent. Misplaced Pages is not a place for spreading propaganda. I therefore suggest this whole article be deleted and replaced with the original article 'Persian people'. |

'''further thoughts''' |

It is very important so separate identity from ethnicity as they are two wholly different concepts, ethnicity is physical characteristics and traits inherited through unique genetics and can not be by chosen, while an identity is self-consciousness developed and altered through interaction and can include experiences, culture, language, gender, sexual orientation and much more, identities can be constructed, altered while ethnicities remain static through life. |
The aim of the article is to describe the word Persian, a word intended to |
denote an ethnic group; That is a group of human beings whose identify with each other mainly, through a common heritage and ancestry. Still the article makes no reference to ethnicity. It instead vaguely suggests that that Persian ethnicity (because it is referring to Persian people) is understood on the basis of language. |
This presents a multitude of problems and contradictions, mainly: |
1) |
If language is the basis of ethnicity do the children of Persian parents cease to be |
Persian if they are brought up in a foreign country and do not learn Farsi? |
2) |
If an individual of another ethnicity, say an Arab learn Farsi does that make him a Persian? |
3) |
Standard modern Persian is something that, before the twentieth century, existed largely in the world of literature and was largely the preserve of the literate. And the literate were usually bilingual, learning to read and write Arabic alongside Persian, Is these people are disqualified from being Persians? |
4) |
If speaking dialects of Persians qualifies one as Persian as the article suggests, both Tajikistan and most of Afghanistan is Persian, that would also make the Kurds Persians at least in parts. |
as they speak dialects close to Farsi, still these groups display different physical characteristics, do not share a common identity nor the same culture. |

The idea of a language as basis for “Persian people’ is pure fantasy, one that is to further the ongoing racial/cultural political conflic |
