Hello Mr R,
{{India quick links}}

Just to let you know that I've just been informed that several (extremely useful and informative) articles on sport (such as ]) that I both update and use for research, have just been needlessly deleted. I am told by the IP editor of this article that a group of objectionable admins are grouping together to purge articles on sport and sports statistics. This is extremely irritating - as a sports journalist such articles are invaluable and easily the best resource of their kind on the web. If Misplaced Pages is intending to make itself less useful, informative and detailed for the sake of it I can't see the point of me continuing to use it or contribute to it. Somebody has taken it to 'deletion review' (which I don't understand) and I wish them luck. If you can help in any way please let me know. I contribute a lot to WP and have donated in the past but now I'm not getting my reward I feel it would be pointless for me to do so again.
All the best! Enjoy your stay on Misplaced Pages!! --] 05:01, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

I would like to argue for a separate WikiSport section which would solve the argument once and for all.

Hi Aabha,

==]==
I really like your article on Frank Lampard. We don't normally do ''complete'' rewrites of articles on Misplaced Pages though - imagine how annoyed you'd be if we put your article up and someone came along a month later and replaced the whole thing. However, with the article having a copyvio on it I can see why you did it that way rather than editing it directly.
Hi, seeing you are interested in football this is an invitation to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! ] 20:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
==Orphaned fair use image (Image:Churchill Brothers logo.png)==
Thanks for uploading ''']'''. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a ]. However, the image is currently ], meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. ] if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see ]).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "]" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any '''articles''' will be deleted after seven days, as described on ]. Thank you.<!-- Template:Orphaned --> ] 04:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
The first thing we need to do is put the existing article through Misplaced Pages's copyright violations procedure. I've done that before with ], so if you give me the URL of the copyrighted article I can do that for you. If the Misplaced Pages article has always been a copyvio, it'll have to be deleted by an admin, in which case we can just copy your article to ] afterwards. It's more likely that the article started off okay and then had the copyrighted text added to it, in which case it'll need to be reverted back to the last version without a copyvio. Once that's done, we can merge your changes into the article.

Cheers for your note on my talk page. I've just had a quick look at your new article on Frank Lampard and it's looking good. I just think that you maybe trying for too much detail in his early career. Why don't you just mention he made 9 league apps, scoring 1 goal for Swansea. I don't think you need to be all that completist. Besides, not all sources seem to agree on how many appearances Frank made for the Swans anyway This says 10(8league, 2cup) . But I would use this source from the FA as the best : ] 07:58, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

: I like the table, but I would change a couple of things. Remove red & yellow cards - they make it too complicated. E.g. ] has some good tables that I think are both clear and informative. Don't worry about getting the stats absolutely perfect on his Swansea games though - someone will always correct it eventually if its wrong - that's the Wiki way. ] 09:18, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

==Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1993-1.jpg==
::I'd keep the stuff on his early career in unless the article starts to look too long. When I put ] through ] and ], people complained that there wasn't enough stuff on his early life. With regard to his Swansea appearances, it's probably best to cite whichever source you're using and mention that other sources disagree in a footnote. Normally I'd sooner have stats left out than risk having wrong ones put in, but if you get an authoritative source and cite it I think that's alright.
Thanks for uploading ''']'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at ] carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at ] is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our ]. If you have any questions please ask them at the ]. Thank you.<!-- Template:No fair -->] (]) 04:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
::I've sorted out the copyvio, so it's ready to have your stuff merged in. There are guidelines on how to do this at ] but they don't really apply here as you wrote your article in your user space instead of the main namespace. I'd just go through your version a paragraph at a time and work out where it should go in the main article. If it's on something that the main article doesn't have, just copy it in. Otherwise, you'll have to decide whether to keep the original version, use your version or mix the two - just choose what seems best to you. I'm happy to help with this - just leave me a message if you want a hand. ] 17:19, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Good question. Why is the article such a vandalism target? Well, plain and simply, it's because ManU sucks! BOO YA! Enjoying your debt this season? Etc. etc.

== Lampard again == == Wikimedia Stories Project ==

Hello,
Hi Aabha,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Misplaced Pages users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Misplaced Pages - for the 2011 fundraiser.
I've been quite busy the last couple of days, so haven't got round to having a look at your changes. I should get the chance to do it in the next couple of days.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).
] 03:19, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.
: I've had another look and it's good, you should definitely merge it in. I can make a start on it if you're not sure what to do, but the edit would be credited to my account instead of yours. I can always put something in the edit summary saying it was your text though. Let me know if you'd like me to do this

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!
:There's no need to worry ''too'' much about making mistakes - it's easy for someone to revert an edit if you get anything wrong. Have a read of ] and feel free to change anything if you think you can improve it. As long as you aren't maliciously damaging articles (and I'm sure you won't be) nobody should give you a hard time.

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

== Fair use image of Frank Lampard == == Invite to the African Destubathon ==

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the ''']''' which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --] (]) 21:12, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
It's probably alright, but I'm no expert on fair use. If no free images of Lampard can be found (very probably true), the image is fairly low-resolution (definitely no more than 400px wide, although it shouldn't be stored at a higher resolution than the article uses) and including it won't cost the copyright holder anything, it should be alright. I thought there was a Wikiproject relating to fair use but I can't find it. If you can find it, it would be worth asking them. ] ] (]) 14:16, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

These I suppose can be left in the category. There are some other categories under ] which should probably be under ], instead of above it or along side of it in the category tree. To put an image or category into ], edit that page and add <nowiki>]</nowiki> near the bottom (above any interlanguage links). When you do this, you will see the image appear under '''Articles in category "Images of people"''' (possibly not on the first page, depending on the letter of the alphabet it starts with). Notice in ] there are some people who appear ''above'' this header. This is because someone put a link to the image in the category page, instead of putting a link to the category on the image page. Go to the category page and hit "edit", and you will see what needs to be removed. You can add those images to the category using the correct method, or you can do the move-to-Commons thing if appropriate. If you have more than say, 50 "fair use" images of people left over in ], it's best to sort them into subcategories. You can make a new category by simply pretending it exists and adding an image to it. After you save that, follow the "red" link you just made. Edit the new category and put in a link to the "parent" category you want it to have. This will turn the links to it blue, because now it has a description page. (You may have to hit reload/refresh in your browser to see the color change.) I hope that all makes sense...probably it will be clearer after you read the tips page and figure out what the different copyright licenses mean. Thanks again! -- ] 11:18, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

== Football AID ==

I think it died out because most people want to edit articles on their own clubs - there just weren't enough articles that a lot of people wanted to work on to make it worthwhile. If you think there are enough people who'd join in, by all means start it up again. I think it might work better at this stage if it was made completely informal and was kept to a discussion page where someone said "I'm working on (article): anyone want to join in?", but it's up to you. ] ] (]) 17:49, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Deletion

Hello Mr R,

Just to let you know that I've just been informed that several (extremely useful and informative) articles on sport (such as FA Premier League 2006-07 goalscorers) that I both update and use for research, have just been needlessly deleted.

I would like to argue for a separate WikiSport section which would solve the argument once and for all.

Thanks for your time and continued effort, Mjefm 15:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

There is a new project about your WikiSport section. It's virgin, so you can start all the project. Please, contact with the Administrator of this web to change any setting of the wiki.

Misplaced Pages talk:Notability (people)#Regarding notability of Football (soccer) players

Hi, seeing you are interested in football this is an invitation to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 20:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Churchill Brothers logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Churchill Brothers logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1993-1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1993-1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Misplaced Pages users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Misplaced Pages - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Football kit editing

Hey Mr. R!!

Looks like you are a great wikipedia editor. I was wondering if you could give this unexperience user some help...I am trying to add some historical kits to the Peru national football team page. I want to creat some new patterns but I dont know how to. I can creat a kit with the existing patterns but I want to creat some specific kits that cannot be replicated with any of the existing patterns. I want to know what software to use and how to upload the information.I hope to hear from you soon. --Critviz (talk) 01:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:12, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Roddick11 toronto2004.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Roddick11 toronto2004.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
