Sontag showed a keen interest in horses and music in his early years. By the age of 8, Frank began playing the accordion, with possible aspirations of music as a career. Within the next year, Frank placed first in a number of competitions and third in a state contest that featured more than 600 children from the state of Ohio. But in February of ], Frank's direction would change when ] made their American debut on the '']''. No more accordion. A short time later the Sontag family moved to Hollywood, where Frank's father landed a job in the electrical department of Universal Studios. Four years later, Frank attended ] in ], where he graduated at the age of sixteen in ]. For the next 8 years, Frank attended college where he majored in ], ], and ]. While in college, he tried his hand at a number of different jobs; store manager for ] Grocery Company, a fire insurance inspector, and a warehouse manager for a private airplane parts company. Frank even teamed up with his father for a short time, learning the ropes as a lighting technician in the movie industry. But nothing seemed to hold his interest, until one fateful evening in June of ], when Frank's life would again make a drastic change.

KKLA is a Christian talk and teaching radio station based in Los Angeles, California, first aired in 1985.

In 2013, Sontag joined KKLA-FM 99.5 FM on the program The Frank Sontag show: Intersection of Faith and Reason, a Christian talk and discussion forum. He succeeded Frank Pastore of The Frank Pastore Show following Pastore's death in 2012.

Sontag announced his departure from KKLA with a final episode posted on July 28, 2021.
