;Do practicing acupuncturists have a conflict of interest (COI) when editing ]-related articles?

I understand the argument that they do: they stand to benefit from the positive depiction of acupuncture. On Misplaced Pages, opinion on the matter is divided, with an RfC on the general question of ] practitioners ], leaning toward "no".

Some editors have suggested that simply having an alt-med profession automatically confers a ] (COI) when editing articles about one's profession. Community consensus (per '''],''' in which I was flattered to be much-discussed) is that this is not the case. In the words of one of the closing admins: {{green|"The result of the RfC was that an alt-med practitioner does not have a COI just because of the fact of them being an alt-med practitioner."}}
In the "real world", there is evidently no precedent for a CAM-specific COI. I'm aware of no journal, editorial board, or academic department with such a policy. The ] produces what we consider to be the highest-level MEDRS's, and they consider CAM professionals to be no more (and no less) conflicted than any medical specialist.

For a good summary of what COI is and isn't, see ''']''' and the immediately following section ''']''', which I discussed in .
That said, of course I understand the concern, and respect ] and ] generally.

Alt-med and COI

I am a retired acupuncturist. The alt-med part of my life is over now and I earn income outside of alt-med. For reference, here are my pre-retirement comments:

Some editors have suggested that simply having an alt-med profession automatically confers a conflict of interest (COI) when editing articles about one's profession. Community consensus (per this RfC, in which I was flattered to be much-discussed) is that this is not the case. In the words of one of the closing admins: "The result of the RfC was that an alt-med practitioner does not have a COI just because of the fact of them being an alt-med practitioner."

For a good summary of what COI is and isn't, see WP:EXTERNALREL and the immediately following section WP:COINOTBIAS, which I discussed in my old (pre-RfC) COI statement.
