Erik Cassel was born in California, USA, on 16 December 1967. Erik was raised alongside his siblings in California, by their father who was a factory worker, and their mother who was a housewife. He grew up dreaming about becoming an actor, but fell in love with computing while attending high school, and became interested in programming. He was mostly focused on learning the basics, but was also interested in sports, as he played soccer for the school’s team. After matriculating from high school in 1985, he enrolled at Cornell University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989.
=== Career ===
Not long after graduation, Erik was invited to join the company Knowledge Revolution, which was founded by his friend David Baszucki and David’s brother Greg – the three worked at the company side by side before it was sold to MSC Software in December 1998, for $20 million.In 2004, Erik and David created the beta version of Roblox, which was initially meant to be called DynaBlocks.The name was changed a year later, and after two years of running tests and writing the platform, Roblox was officially released on 1 September 2006 – the platform became compliant with The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 in March 2007. Roblox’s first Hack Week was held in December 2011 during which game developers presented their ideas to Erik and David – it was released for iOS on 11 December 2012, as well as for Android on 16 July 2014. On 20 November 2015, Roblox was introduced to Xbox One, and in April 2016 they created Roblox VR with the use of Oculus Rift.
=== Death ===
On February 11, 2013, a Roblox ] stated on the Roblox ] account that Erik Cassel had "lost his fight with cancer" earlier in the day at the age of 45. ] (who is an administrator for Roblox) confirmed it in the late hours in a forum post. A blog post was then created later in the day.

On February 12, 2013, hundreds of users gathered in the Erik Cassel Memorial to mourn the death of Erik Cassel. Many of these people dressed up as Erik Cassel's character to pay tribute to him. On February 15, 2013, Roblox created a ] named "]" in memory of Erik.cassel. The shirt went off sale 8 days later. Also in memory of Erik Cassel, Roblox changed the name of a hat formerly known as "Well Worn Hat" to "]" in memory of Erik, and put it on-sale for a short time. Roblox then changed the two items' descriptions to the following:

: ''"To honor our co-founder Erik Cassel, Roblox will make a substantial contribution to cancer research in Erik's name. Thank you to everyone for your respect and support."''
: In May 2014, erik.cassel was online, shocking many users. Some said that he was hacked by an unknown user, and others said his younger brother or his sons were using his account. His kids using the account is generally the accepted explanation.{{Redirect category shell|

Redirect to:

This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
  • With history: This is a redirect from a page containing substantive page history. This page is kept as a redirect to preserve its former content and attributions. Please do not remove the tag that generates this text (unless the need to recreate content on this page has been demonstrated), nor delete this page.
    • This template should not be used for redirects having some edit history but no meaningful content in their previous versions, nor for redirects created as a result of a page merge (use {{R from merge}} instead), nor for redirects from a title that forms a historic part of Misplaced Pages (use {{R with old history}} instead).
  • To a related topic: This is a redirect to an article about a similar topic.
    • Redirects from related topics are different than redirects from related words, because a related topic is more likely to warrant a full and detailed description in the target article. If this redirect's subject is notable, then also tag it with {{R with possibilities}} and {{R printworthy}}.
  • From a person(s): This is a redirect from a person or persons' name to a related article or section that describes the person(s).
    • It is a topic more specific than currently provided on the target article or a section of that article, hence this redirect is a potential article that may be suitable for expansion in accordance with Misplaced Pages's notability policy on biographies of notable people. The magic word {{DEFAULTSORT:Cassel, Erik}} should be included below the #REDIRECT code in this page for correct category sorting of this person's name.
  • With possibilities: This is a redirect from a title that is in draft namespace at Draft:Erik Cassel, so please do not create an article from this redirect (unless moving a ready draft here). You are welcome to improve the draft article while it is being considered for inclusion in article namespace. If the draft link is a redirect, then you may boldly turn that redirect into a draft article. The topic described by this title may be more detailed than is currently provided on the target page or in a section of that page.
    • When the target page becomes too large, or for any reason a new page would be an improvement, this redirect may be replaced with an article, template or other project page that is carved out of the target page. See also {{R to section}} and use together with this rcat when appropriate.
    • If the topic of the redirect is not susceptible to expansion, then use other rcats such as {{R to section}} or {{R to list entry}} when appropriate.
    • Since a new page may be created, links to this redirect should not be replaced with a direct link to the target page. To make redirects to this page, use {{R avoided double redirect}}.
    • {{R printworthy}} should be used together with this template when applied to a redirect in mainspace.
    • When used on a template redirect, it will automatically populate Category:Template redirects with possibilities.
When appropriate, protection levels are automatically sensed, described and categorized.
