My personal belief after 11 years of playing the sport is that there is no difference... just another name for it... just like Boxla... I'd like to see the two articles merged under Box Lacrosse and then have a little write up about the different names.. also, the article is in desperate need of being expanded... as an example we might want to look at: ]. ] 10:16, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

:::Well... the argument from an old discussion was that Indoor is different because 3 years ago they switch back to the old 4 quarter rule over 3 periods... and that they use turf. These rule changes are basically only for the top tier of the sport... the NLL... and mostly for aesthetics... green turf looks less ghetto than a cement floor... and four quarters allows for a halftime. ] 20:43, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

::::I think the basic question here is: Are box and indoor lacrosse ''different sports''? Field and box lacrosse are fundamentally the same, but there are lots of differences, and the differences are big enough that they are considered two different (though related) sports, and thus require different pages to describe them. The differences between box and indoor lacrosse are relatively minor — the differences mentioned above aren't differences between ''sports'', they're differences between ''leagues''. The AL and NL use different rules (the designated hitter is one, but there are others), but nobody would say that they play two different sports. I don't think the differences in playing surfaces is relevant enough — some baseball teams play on grass and others on artificial turf ''in the same league''. I '''vote to merge''' as well. --] (], ]) 22:43, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I just finished added infomation on the National Lacrosse HOF (see ]). There are currently 323 inductees into the HOF. Do we want to create a page tha lists them all? ] 04:42, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
:Hmmmm....my first thought is no - what we can do is add a category called National Lacrosse Hall Of Fame Inductees, and then go through each person inducted and add them to the category. The only drawback to that is that if pages don't exist for each person in the HOF, we'd have an incomplete list until we can add pages for each one.

I tend to be of the opinion that if a team relocates to a new city it should be put on the same article. I know the NHL pages is different. Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of ] proposal for an appreciation week to end on Misplaced Pages Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at ] where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. == NLL Weekly Awards ==

== ] ==
I wanted to create a page listing all of the weekly award winners in the NLL, but that's 12-16 winners per season, times 22 seasons, and in the last four seasons, there have been FOUR winners per week. This would be a rather huge table of players. Does anyone have any ideas on how to condense it a little, eg. maybe break it up into sub pages (i.e. Weekly Winners of the 1990's / 2000's)?

:The decades sounds good, however that is still, as you said, 12-16 winners per season for 10 seasons. Hey all!
== Importance scale ==

I am planning on having a WikiConference North America sports panel December 12 3:00 EST. This is something that has never been done before and there are many sports which are "native" to North America and part of the America identity. What it seems to be is that we (you, me, and other members of WikiSports) will be in a Zoom (or other video conferencing app) to discuss our experiences in editing sports on Misplaced Pages. These can range from combating vandalism to how to best get permission to use sports photos. The organizers of WikiConference North America (WCNA) created an ] surrounding planning which I will link . if you Command F "sports" you will find the section. This will be the very first panel WCNA has ever had on sports so not much to go off of here.
I propose an an importance scale for the project be created. Should we vote on, say, twenty top-importance articles first and sort the others from there? ] 10:53, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

== Project-independent quality assessments ==

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at ], but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent ] was approved and has been implemented to add a {{para|class}} parameter to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{tl|WPBannerMeta}} a new {{para|QUALITY_CRITERIA|custom}} parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. ] (]) 21:21, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

== ] of all our articles ==

I thought this was a done deal back in but obviously not. A handful of editors input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said ] or ] that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.

Perhaps this is what sports projects want and perhaps not. Either way I certainly don't want projects ill-informed as the last RfC was handled. Express your thoughts at ]. ] (]) 21:00, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Does anyone have any objections if I create an article for Tehoka Nanticoke? Whilst he's a college freshmen, he seems to be getting a hell a lot of coverage. Given this Project doesn't have notability guidelines I'm guessing WP:GNG is used? Mark49s (talk) 16:48, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

@Mark49s: Hi I had exactly the same idea as you do. I have started a draft of the article at Draft:Tehoka Nanticoke. Inter&anthro (talk) 16:28, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Make active

I want to make this page active again, but I’m not sure if I would be able to. Is there anyone who could help me revitalize this project at an important time for lacrosse with the forming of the PLL? Twooeight (talk) 16:06, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

I made it active. It's as simple as that. As for the work getting people to contribute again, that's a bit harder. Look at these suggestions: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Council/Guide#Revival. While I don't think the PLL is an important milestone for lacrosse, I don't care what motivates people to work on the project's goals. Dig in and the more the merrier.
Also, please see my sections above on Lacrosse at the Olympics and improving the lead article Lacrosse. Or just read the articles and make some edits to improve them! Thanks. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 04:05, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

To do list

I propose:

  1. clearing the open and ongoing tasks except the most recent addition by Twooeight. The old Did you knows? could go too.
  2. moving infoboxes, categories, maybe resources to subpages linked on the main page.
  3. looking for a really good project page to use as an example.
  4. reaching out to active members and soliciting new members with posts to the talk pages of major articles.

Input help

To the members of this project. Please see this thread Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical)#Help with color overlap problem which is related to this article Israel men's national lacrosse team. We are wondering if there are any policies or guidelines that you follow that would help answering the question there, Thanks for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 19:54, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

No guideline. I think someone thought it would be cool to use the Israeli flag color. The lacrosse project is small and still working on basic issues like creating and expanding articles. Style and conformity issues will come later. --- Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 04:31, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Anyone an AfC reviewer?

Draft:2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. The tourney is coming up on September 19. The review process can take as long as eight weeks. Is anyone an AfC reviewer or wants to become one? Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants

The draft can be edited normally while in draftspace. Anyone can add the schedule and sections based on 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. Thanks for any help provided. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 17:45, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Draft has been promoted to article space. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 21:41, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Discord

Hey all, I hope everyone is safe and healthy. My name is HickoryOughtShirt?4 and I'm a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. I was wondering if there was any interest in starting a WikiProject Sports channel on Discord? There's quite a few of us who are interested in sports, and I think it would be a good idea to help the WikiProject recruit more members. You guys can join us through here.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:56, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

NCAA Division I men's lacrosse records

I removed pre-1971 players from this article and started a discussion at Talk:NCAA Division I men's lacrosse records. There are still some issues around scope of the article and sourcing. I hope wikiproject members will weigh in. @Twooeight: @B1GLAX2: Thanks. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 03:02, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

WikiConference North America

Hey all!

The organizers of WikiConference North America (WCNA) created an Etherpad surrounding planning which I will link here. if you Command F "sports" you will find the section. This will be the very first panel WCNA has ever had on sports so not much to go off of here.

Please ping me if you have questions as this page is not on my watchlist. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:43, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Albany NLL

I have started the Albany NLL page & made some style changes to the New England Black Wolves page, but please feel free to make the Albany one better and give it what it needs to be up to standards. --MattBinYYC (talk) 04:16, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

Main page: User:Headbomb/unreliable

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Misplaced Pages. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

How can I join this group?

HI LAX LOVERS! How do I join this group officially? I play for the Austrian National Team (just came off World Cup!) and played in the UK BUCS league in undergrad and grad school. So exciting to see Women's World Cup 2022 already has an amazing Wiki page and would love to get more involved. Full disclosure I work at the Foundation. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Misplaced Pages:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Major RfC on capitalization of all our articles

I thought this was a done deal back in this 2022 RFC but obviously not. A handful of editors did another rfc with no sports projects input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said 2023 Wimbledon Championships – Men's singles or Swimming at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 metre backstroke that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.

Perhaps this is what sports projects want and perhaps not. Either way I certainly don't want projects ill-informed as the last RfC was handled. Express your thoughts at the following rfc. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:00, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
