==Language codes==
Wikimedia projects use ]s to identify language specific editions of a Wikimedia project. The codes are often used as a subdomain, e.g. for the Misplaced Pages editions it is a subdomain below wikipedia.org. Interlanguage links in the ] are sorted by that code.

The codes mostly correspond to the language codes defined by ] and ], and the decision of which language code to use is mostly in accordance with the ] policy.

One code is not a language code ('be-x-old') but refers to a specific orthography.

===Codes that do not agree with the ISO 639 meaning or are deprecated===
Several codes are used for project editions where the ISO 639 meaning is different from the content contained in the project.<ref>] and ]</ref>

This makes the codes partially "not useful".<ref>{{cite web|url=https://translatewiki.net/WMF_project_code |title=This leads to a situation where the Wikimedia Foundation project codes are not useful |publisher=Translatewiki.net |date=2012-09-03 |accessdate=2013-09-01}}</ref>

This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
  • With history: This is a redirect from a page containing substantive page history. This page is kept as a redirect to preserve its former content and attributions. Please do not remove the tag that generates this text (unless the need to recreate content on this page has been demonstrated), nor delete this page.
    • This template should not be used for redirects having some edit history but no meaningful content in their previous versions, nor for redirects created as a result of a page merge (use {{R from merge}} instead), nor for redirects from a title that forms a historic part of Misplaced Pages (use {{R with old history}} instead).
When appropriate, protection levels are automatically sensed, described and categorized.
