DeVry University, or DeVry Inc. is a private for-profit university consisting of full-time and part-time career colleges and technical colleges in the United States and Canada offering a variety of Associate's degrees, Bachelor's of Science in professional studies degrees at the undergraduate levels up through Master's degrees.
The school is operated by the publicly held corporation DeVry Inc. and traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: DV).
History
DeVry Chicago opened in 1931 as the eponymous DeForest Training School named after the perfector-inventor of the (amplifier type) of electronics vacuum tube, Lee DeForest, a colleague and friend of founder Herman A. DeVry. In the 1950s, the school became known as DeVry Technical Institute. The name was changed to DeVry Institute of Technology in 1968 and to DeVry University in 2002.

Curriculum
Main programs of study are business administration (BSBA), computer engineering technology (BSCET), electronics engineering technology (BSEET), network and communication management (BSNCM), and other technology (biomedical engineering technology, bioinformatics)-related studies. In addition, they have recently formed a biomedical technology department in conjunction with the extant nursing programs. Other offerings include business, office management, and health information technology specialities. DeVry Inc. advertising agents state that the curricula developers of this institution put less emphasis on a broad base of study in the traditional liberal arts and research training, and greater emphasis on pragmatic and experiential-based skills, including early hands-on training in career-specialty areas of study.
The university operates on a trimester course schedule and, if taken full-time year round, a person can graduate with a Bachelor's degree in about three years (depending on the program). Most degree programs are offered at both the Associate's and four-year Bachelor's level. In addition, the institution offers various certificate programs such as for specific subfields in Information technology. Many courses and programs are offered online. DeVry University Library Services are available on campus, and via varied Internet based technologies. The Library material collections are complex and varied, supporting both the curriculum of the University as well as independent reading and research.
