Located on Highway 6 it is 545 km (341 miles) from ], and 328 km (250 miles) from ]. The census recorded in 2000 tells of a total of 11,410,046 people. Most of Manitowaning's population lives in cottages just on the outskirts of the town. These cottages mainly line the coast of Lake Huron up intil the Indian Reserve of Wikwemikong that is found right across the bay from Manitowaning.

== Events ==
There is an annual smash up derby in Manitowaning where anyone over 18 may enter the car into a tire ring and the last one standing wins that round. Depending on how many cars are entered there could be from 3-7 rounds in the derby.
