Then, when we are talking about comfort, there's the issue that being too cold is so easy to fix (just bring a sweater) while being too hot is not (strip down to your underwear ?). Another factor is that it's difficult for a business to maintain a constant, uniform temperature, due to varying sunlight in windows and varying crowd density. So, to prevent any one spot from ever getting too hot, they tend to keep the average temperature quite low. :I learn ya! The reason given above is beneficial. I was thinking for a while that keeping stores real cool would make non-refrigerated foods last longer. I experience that many restaurants I go to are comparatively warm, either from hot cooking area or not having A/C up so high so served foods can stay warm longer.

:You mentioned stores, theaters, museums, and restaurants. What about schools? ]] 03:02, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

::Schools would suffer from two of the problems mentioned above, inability to precisely control the temp based on variable sunlight in windows and variable density of people in each room. So, as above, to avoid becoming intolerably hot anywhere, they keep the average temp low. Now, it would be possible to control temps more precisely, if every room had it's own fans and dampers it could turn on and close when the thermostat there indicates it's needed, with both building heat and A/C on all the time, so it could tap into either. Alternatively, each room could have completely independent powerful heat and A/C. Why don't they do this ? It would be very expensive and/or wasteful of energy. Better to just keep it cool everywhere and ask people to wear a sweater if they get cold. ] (]) 13:06, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

]Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. The article Run differential has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to be a Content Fork of Run (baseball), where this should probably be merged.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  InsertCleverPhraseHere06:54, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:The Remains movie.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:The Remains movie.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:54, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

A/C setting in public places

There can also be secondary reasons, having nothing to do with comfort, instead having to do with preservation of the facility and stock:

  • Grocery stores: Produce lasts longer when cool.
  • Other stores: They don't want sweat on the stock. For example, sweat stains on book covers can make them unsellable.
  • Theaters: They don't want sweat on the seats. There's also an interesting history here, as A/C is what originally led to the rise of movie theaters. When homes lacked A/C and theaters had it, they were THE place to go on hot days.
  • Museums: Organic matter (like stuffed animals) and paintings tend to last longer under cool, dry conditions.
  • Restaurants: Food lasts longer when cool, especially in salad bars.

Keep in mind that people vary, so to guarantee that just about nobody sweats, you need to keep it quite cold. Also, some may have had a long, hot walk from the parking lot, or up stairs, so need to cool down.

You might find, for example, that a movie theater is cold when you first enter, but warms up after a couple hours, if packed full. SinisterLefty (talk) 14:15, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

I learn ya! The reason given above is beneficial. I was thinking for a while that keeping stores real cool would make non-refrigerated foods last longer. I experience that many restaurants I go to are comparatively warm, either from hot cooking area or not having A/C up so high so served foods can stay warm longer.
You mentioned stores, theaters, museums, and restaurants. What about schools? PlanetStar 03:02, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
Schools would suffer from two of the problems mentioned above, inability to precisely control the temp based on variable sunlight in windows and variable density of people in each room. SinisterLefty (talk) 13:06, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Misplaced Pages non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Misplaced Pages talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Curse of Bob Short

Notice

The article Curse of Bob Short has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Either not notable or needs a rename. For example, the ESPN source doesn't even mention Bob Short, while the first source, Defector doesn't mention a "curse". Looking for better sources gave only 6 Google Hits in total (!), which for such a high profile sport in the US is ridiculously low.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 09:09, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
