WP:OFFICE is lifted on this page. Edit to your hearts content. I think it is very wise to be very cautious about supposing things about Mr. Barresi that are not _directly_ in evidence from _reliable_ sources. That he was involved in the porn industry is not disputed. That he is bisexual or personally performed in 'gay porn' I have no clue, haven't looked in imdb or whatever. If there are elements of his career in his press bio that we previously failed to mention, but which can be verified by third party sources, we should add those.

I want to emphasize a few things: Mr. Barresi has been courteous throughout this, made no legal threats against Misplaced Pages, and seems genuinely interested in having a high quality and neutral article about himself in the encyclopedia.--] 17:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Is the Travolta reference really necessary? The information can be accessed via the external links. I had originally left it out because it seems to me that an encyclopedia does not legitimately deal in scandal, especially if unsubstantiated. ] 04:37, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Article has been updated slightly but certainly can be elaborated on. Barresi can no longer be involved with Pellicano as in Dec 2008 Pellicano was sentenced to 15 years in Prison.
== Material contributed by Paul Barresi ==

Further 2008 updates for this article could include Barresi's comments about a popular actor in entertainment magazines such as In Touch. ] (]) 22:20, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
I have explained to Paul that much of the material here will need to be confirmed before we can use it, and that the "press bio" style of writing is not suitable to wikipedia.

Nonetheless there seems to be some usable information here.

:::Also, this article might not be up to date. One area where there is some question is where Barresi is helping the Bertram Fields' defense & investigation. I was not able to find a source as to if Fields is still under investigation. However, since Pellicano's case is now closed, it is likely that Fields is not under any scrutiny either. There probably needs to be some closure on this matter reflected in this article. There are a few other comments in this article with a tail end which dates back two or more years and an update is needed. ] (]) 04:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Paul Barresi writes:

==Minor but Important detail==
In April 2001, New Times, Los Angeles reported, “If Damon Runyon had lived in modern Hollywood rather than Depression era New York, he might have written a short story about Paul Barresi."

Just going over the sources cited and made minor change to Pellicano section to make it conform better with cited source. ] (]) 00:28, 13 December 2009
PAUL BARRESI is a former undefeated, state wrestling champion and veteran of the Vietnam war era. Shortly after receiving an honorable discharge from the US Air Force in 1971 at March AFB, Riverside California, the strikingly handsome, Italian American fulfilled his life time dream of becoming an actor, by landing a role in the Merchant-Ivory production of “The Wild Party,” starring Rachel Welch.

==Bertram Fields & Anthony Pellicano==
After the film’s release, Barresi relocated to New York to study acting and work as a catalog model. With several off Broadway shows under his belt, in March 1974, Barresi appeared along side aspiring actress Cassandra Peterson, (better known today as Elvira-Mistress of the Dark, in a sell out issue of Playgirl Magazine.
The ENTIRE Pellicano section is extremely outdated! Particularly worthy of an update is the fact the Attorney Bertram Fields' investigation was back in 2006!!! Surely there has been some sort of outcome by now, especially considering that Pellicano's lengthy prison sentence started some two and a half years ago. ] (]) 01:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

== Dead or mis-Cited Links==
An adult film producer saw the Playgirl spread and cast Barresi in his first xxx flick, “Coed Fever.” From then on, Barresi lived, as Bill Clinton defined in his book-- “A parallel life.” In 1983, he had already starred in dozens of adult film but that did not stop famed director James Bridges from hiring Barresi for a feature role in the Hollywood film, “Perfect.”
Of the 52 links listed for this article, many are not correctly cited though it is easy to deduce that they are a book, TV show, or X-rated VHS or DVD production. Whether as well as where ever these items are available for verification is dubious. Of the sources listed as Web links, many are either dead or they do not verify what is claimed to be stated in them within this Misplaced Pages article. By number listed here are some of the issues: Link # 1 = dead link, # 6= distorted / old, # 20=page not found, #23 & 26=not what they claim to be, #29=dead link, #34=dead link, #35= page not found, #36 = not a link at all/irrelevant, #38= does not support article, #40=dead link, 41=blog & irrevelant to this article, 44=does not support any claim on this article, 48= completely irrevelant to this page, 49=page not found, 50= not listed, 51 & 52 - articles which do not support claims in this WP article; URGENT CLEAN-UP is NEEDED! ] (]) 05:58, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

==Cleaning-up a bit==
Bearing all, in a men’s locker room scene, before the film closed its three week run, the super buffed Barresi started up his own sweat and slim enterprise in which he personally supervised exercise programs for the Hollywood elite.
Reviewing all the sources cited in this article, there was some availability to clean this article a bit, starting with the Pellicano section. Still a great need to update the outdated information as the most recent citation is 2008 and most are 2000-2007 being nearly 5 years old minimum. ] (]) 17:52, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

== Removing some unsourced/poorly sourced info==
Barresi capitalized on his Hollywood connections to attract such celebrity clients as music mogul, now Dreamworks co founder, David Geffen, playwright Neil Simon, “Entertainment Tonight” host Mary Hart, “Three’s Company” sitcom star, Joyce Dewitt and Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock.

I'm looking at this article as per an OTRS request, and will be removing some instances of unsourced or poorly sourced, contentious information. All such material needs to honor WP:BLP, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV.
Barresi’s multi faceted career as a main stream Hollywood actor, porn icon and fitness trainer to the stars is unprecedented. While acting in adult film, Barresi continued to land roles on TV soaps, including “Days of Our Lives”
and “Capital.” And, he was featured on dozens of television sitcoms and episodic including “Who’s The Boss,” “Empty Nest,” “Murphy Brown” and “A different World,” “The Equalizer,” “D.E.A,” “Gabriel’s Fire,” “Father Dowling,” “Matlock,” “NYPD Blue,” “JAG and “Angel.”

Please contact me if you feel one or more removals were in error. --]] 05:24, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Before retiring in 1988 as an adult entertainer, Barresi starred in over 50 adult films, appeared in Playgirl Magazine for a second time, and he was selected by Larry Flynt, himself, to be the first man featured on the cover of Hustler Magazine.

::If 'contentious information' is the issue, it ought be noted that the reference of an incident involving Andrew Morton + others in the Pellicano Section is pure hearsay. ] (]) 18:47, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
In 1990, however, Barresi’s good fortune took a turn for the worse. He sold a bogus story to the National Enquirer for $100,000, alleging an intimate relationship he claimed he had with a major Hollywood star which he later recanted.

::: I haven't seen any reason to dispute that, your assistance in cleaning this up is appreciated. --]] 19:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
“No excuses, but it was at a time when drugs, alcohol and sex addiction got the best of me. It was a chapter in my life I will always regret, and that I will just have to live with. But, I eventually beat my demons; turned my life around and landed back on my feet.”, Barresi said.

== Should we edit this article for the real guy==
In 1993, Barresi began directing adult film and discovered a newfound career as a self styled private investigator and worked as a free lance investigative reporter for KCBS news, in Los Angeles.

::I am not sure I found that late last night from a link on his Wiki article. I spent the rest of the night reading all of the notes over the years about this guy in the archive talk section. Do we really even want to try to get it more objective or spend much time on this article? ] (]) 23:15, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
To date, in his true to form-- multi hat wearing fashion, as a porn maker, Barresi has produced, written and directed over 200 adult films, in all genres. Barresi is quick to point out, "Every man is entitled to be recognized for his best achievements in life."

:::Please be very cautious in what statements get made on this talk page. This biography has been subject to ] sanctions due to legal threats. I have redacted some BLP stuff in your comment above. Please do not opine on the motives or character of living persons. I agree we should note that he is either a formerly licensed private investigator or remove it entirely. I would also review to confirm they comply with policy. He is clearly notable and merits an article, but the biographical materials outside of pornography need to be extremely carefully sourced and presented. They include statements about other people, living and dead, which should all be impeccably sourced and presented neutrally. ] (]) 23:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
As an investigator, Barresi assisted the FBI capture two of America’s Most Wanted and had the distinct privilege and honor of being selected to be the personal security escort to Maria Shriver and the man who accompanied her, Arnold Schwarzenegger, at the 1994 Los Angeles, Inner City Games. (photo)

::::] You know after reading some of that last night.... I agree as a porn actor/director he deserves a page. As for his to quote one article "self style investigators" and yes there are some very important people still alive that Barresi has appeared to insert himself into interviews about with questionable sources. I think my take is I do not volunteer enough time to become invovle in something like this and will let the link on the existing article speak for itself as it did to me when I clicked on it. I will be moving right alone to other bios.... Thanks again. ] (]) 02:35, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Indeed, as evident in the framed letter from the FBI, prominently displayed on his office wall, arguably Barresi is the only self styled sleuth in history to have ever received a letter of acknowledgment from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his assistance.

==Suggested edit==
Additionally, working along side of famed and now infamous, Beverly Hills private investigator Anthony Pellicano, Barresi assisted Pellicano with a number of high profile cases involving such Hollywood stars as Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Michael Jackson, Kevin Cosner, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise.

Barresi appeared first in Playgirl then the Wild Party. His first porn film was not LA PLAYS ITSELF, but a straight film called CO ED FEVER. Barresi did not break into the porn bizz until after his Playgirl spread in 1974. The LA PLAYS ITSELF credit is wrong. He appeared also in dozens of straight xxx films like, BAD GIRLS II, DIARY OF A SEX GODESS and GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES. Why are his hetero films not noted. His appearances in gay xxx video were primarily non sex roles or solo roles. — Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ])
Barresi’s extraordinary, multifaceted career, in the span of more than three decades, has landed him guest appearances on Current Affair, Jenny Jones, E Entertainment Television, Frontline, CBS Dateline, Jenny Jones, Court TV, Leeza,
Celebrity Justice and as recently as February 16, 2006, ABC Primetime.

: Hmm. I wonder what happened with respect to the first film you mentioned, I'm a little confused. There's fairly old references to someone with your name in "LA Plays Itself" (you can see a couple snippets at https://www.google.com/search?q=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&oq=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&aqs=chrome.0.57j62l3.2053&sugexp=chrome,mod=6&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=bks&source=lnms&sa=X&ei=FB3EUOGMFonVyAGMvoHgCA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=9b1deae9e667e29e&bpcl=39650382&biw=680&bih=416 ), I'm half-tempted to wonder if there's another Paul Barresi out there. Or if an error was made in 1994 and it's just being replicated. Or what. Hmmm. --]] 05:13, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
In addition, Barresi has been the subject of stories published in People, Buzz, Vanity Fair, New York Post, today, Spy, New York Daily News, Justice Magazine, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Rolling Stone, New York Post and the New York Daily News.
::There is a Paul Barresi in Australia who is making a name for himself as a local polititian. He was born in 1947. The birth date of this Paul Barresi is not accurate; he is older than 1949 birth! ] (]) 19:37, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

== BLP ==
When Barresi is not working as an adult film producer or private investigator, he continues to pursue acting jobs. Most recently, he had a feature spot in director John Carpenter’s sci-fi film, “The Ghosts of Mars.” Currently he
has several offers on the table for rights to his life story.

:I think that given Mr. Barresi's (if that's really him) objections, the article should be checked for neutrality. It is over half negative, after all. ] (]) 01:37, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
:'''Note''' the only material present in the article as it was and not in the material above is his work in "gay" pornography. No opinion on whether such a mention is necessary or not, but it seems pretty verifiable, based on the titles in his IMDB entry. However, the "pornographic actors" infobox's inclusion of a sexuality category seems problematic. Simply because an actor has been in films portraying homosexual acts does not mean that that actor is gay or bisexual, any more than it means that the actor is actually a plumber when a scene calls for one. ]] 20:35, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
::Yes. Well feel free to make edits in accordance with your best judgment here. I do think this is where the problem was with the original article. Mr. Barresi is not shy about his full career.--] 23:38, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

:::I am grateful that other editors have taken the challenging task of cleaning up this article into hand! I feel the CNN article should be cited. However this is an encyclopedic article and should be NEUTRAL as mentioned above. Making this article neutral is daunting. With reference to Barresi's early life and post Pellicano sentencing, it might also be noted that Mr. Barresi was banned from his own father's funeral in 2011, http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlla/paul-barresi-arnold-schwarzenegger-sylvester-stallone-eddie-murphy-lemoore-california_b42204

Thank you for fairness. It appears our society prefers rather much too often to highlight the confessions of ones defects rather than any magnificent achievements one garners. Sad. CONTINUING FM PAUL BARRESI...
I couldn't help but notice the kinder language used to describe my old pal Bill Cable's adult film career. He is characterized as an 'Actor' period-- in erotic films. Not once is pornographic used on his page.

See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/Bill_Cable

Most of the work I worked in was soft core photo layouts. Bill had one of the great natural bodies of all time. He died much too young. :It has additionally come to my attention that some of the following sources could potentially be of interest to editors here. I express no strong opinion on that, I am just passing it alog, but likely anyone with an interest in improving this page may find at least some of these helpful starting points:
I don't really care who Paul Barresi is, I just saw this linked from slashdot. This edit summary "WP:OFFICE, please respect, there may be issues you don't know about)" given for removal of a bunch of content doesn't explain much. I never heard of WP:OFFICE before, found the page. I guess it has something to do with a legal issue. Who really knows, that page doesn't explain a whole lot. That plus wording like "there may be issues you don't know about" gives the impression there's a lot of secrecy going on and the rest of us are just second class citizens who are tolerated as long as we don't interfere with this secret business. After reading this article I can't help but feel that now I should consider if "there may be issues don't know about" whenever I consider editing any other article, not that my hesitation or leaving all together would be any big loss for wikipedia. A little more information and explanation whenever there is a argument on discussion pages would go a long way - for example saying "Can you please stop" and not saying what exactly it is you want someone to stop doing doesn't come off very professionally. I've seen on other user pages people joke about the wikipedia cabal - and I've always taken this to be a joke with the intention of getting across the point that wikpedia is so open, one could never take such an idea seriously. Frankly I can't see why anyone would donate to this project if they knew this is how things were run, unless of course they were one of the ones who in on whatever it is that is going on. Perhaps in an effort to encourage whoever replies to this, I should say, I'm half expecting to get replies of, "don't comment on things when you don't know what is going on".--] 20:28, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
:Same here, Paraphelion. But common sense tells one that "cabal" is too emotive word. There has to be a small team of people with dictatorial control over Misplaced Pages or it would get out of hand, possibly cause legal problems for the Wikimedia foundation. Like you, I've been extremely reluctant to donate dollars to a website which I contribute a lot already, for no personal monetary gain. ] 11:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
::Well actually, I felt using the site, even by editing is a reason to donate money. And I don't mind that there are people with more power than others here. The main thing is that it really doesn't seem like an open community.--] 19:06, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

It's really quite simple: Mr. Barresi's biography should very strictly follow established editorial standards and Misplaced Pages policies, including ], ], and ]. Given that nobody has come forward with ] on which to base the current article, it's obviously rather difficult to write a factually accurate and balanced article about Mr. Barresi. In fact, if you review the prior debate on this talk page, you'll rapidly conclude that we can't really move beyond the status quo without first finding at least one trustworthy and comprehensive source, which so far hasn't happened. --] ] 07:16, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Its not libellous to say "according to IMDB". We are not asserting it as fact, just saying that that is what IMDB says. If there is a claim of libel, Paul Barresi should take it up with the people at IMDB. IMDB is ordinarily thought to be a very reliable source, and I see no reason to dispute it in this instance. So I went ahead and included that section. The issue seems to be whether the aliases given by IMDB, i.e. Jason Thorpe and Joe Hammer, are really him. I went ahead and was bold with this. ] 18:15, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Cite your sources

CITE YOUR SOURCES - it is as simple as that.--Jimbo Wales 22:24, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Just to be clear

WP:OFFICE is lifted on this page. Edit to your hearts content. I think it is very wise to be very cautious about supposing things about Mr. Barresi that are not _directly_ in evidence from _reliable_ sources. That he was involved in the porn industry is not disputed. That he is bisexual or personally performed in 'gay porn' I have no clue, haven't looked in imdb or whatever. If there are elements of his career in his press bio that we previously failed to mention, but which can be verified by third party sources, we should add those.

I want to emphasize a few things: Mr. Barresi has been courteous throughout this, made no legal threats against Misplaced Pages, and seems genuinely interested in having a high quality and neutral article about himself in the encyclopedia.--Jimbo Wales 17:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I am unclear about what is disputed, but Mr. Barresi informs me that IMDB contains some significant errors. I'm trying to determine the details, but in the meantime, let's work with the other material first?--Jimbo Wales 00:12, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

That's quite possible. IMDb bios are of varying quality, occasionally amounting to little more than trivia and/or gossip. In this case, IMDb was the only source that listed a DOB. If this is indeed in dispute, I'll remove the DOB and restore the remaining stub info. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 01:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

TO THE EDITORS. PLEASE STOP DELETING PHOTOS I HAVE POSTED WHICH I OWN. PAUL BARRESI — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.80.136.213 (talk) 22:21, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Just to be clear

The article is only semi-protected, and I hope very much that someone will get excited about the article and bring it up to snuff. It used to be full of unsourced stuff or badly sourced stuff, and now it is sad and lonely and empty. --Jimbo Wales 04:53, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

A note to editors

Editors who wish to make changes to this article: Please review the archive of this talk page for some of the ongoing WP:BLP issues, as well as actions of now-banned editors previously involved in disputes about this article. Jokestress (talk) 15:50, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Involvement with Pellicano on hold

Article has been updated slightly but certainly can be elaborated on. Barresi can no longer be involved with Pellicano as in Dec 2008 Pellicano was sentenced to 15 years in Prison.

Further 2008 updates for this article could include Barresi's comments about a popular actor in entertainment magazines such as In Touch. Helena Churchill (talk) 22:20, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Also, this article might not be up to date. 76.167.73.93 (talk) 04:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Minor but Important detail

Just going over the sources cited and made minor change to Pellicano section to make it conform better with cited source. Matt Latona (talk) 00:28, 13 December 2009

Bertram Fields & Anthony Pellicano

The ENTIRE Pellicano section is extremely outdated! Particularly worthy of an update is the fact the Attorney Bertram Fields' investigation was back in 2006!!! Surely there has been some sort of outcome by now, especially considering that Pellicano's lengthy prison sentence started some two and a half years ago. A cowgirl (talk) 01:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Dead or mis-Cited Links

A cowgirl (talk) 05:58, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Cleaning-up a bit

Reviewing all the sources cited in this article, there was some availability to clean this article a bit, starting with the Pellicano section. Still a great need to update the outdated information as the most recent citation is 2008 and most are 2000-2007 being nearly 5 years old minimum. Matt Latona (talk) 17:52, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Removing some unsourced/poorly sourced info

I'm looking at this article as per an OTRS request, and will be removing some instances of unsourced or poorly sourced, contentious information. All such material needs to honor WP:BLP, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV.

Please contact me if you feel one or more removals were in error. --joe decker 05:24, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

If 'contentious information' is the issue, it ought be noted that the reference of an incident involving Andrew Morton + others in the Pellicano Section is pure hearsay. Matt Latona (talk) 18:47, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
I haven't seen any reason to dispute that, your assistance in cleaning this up is appreciated. --joe decker 19:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Should we edit this article for the real guy

I am not sure I found that late last night from a link on his Wiki article. I spent the rest of the night reading all of the notes over the years about this guy in the archive talk section. Do we really even want to try to get it more objective or spend much time on this article? JoeyD2010 (talk) 23:15, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Please be very cautious in what statements get made on this talk page. This biography has been subject to WP:OFFICE sanctions due to legal threats. I have redacted some BLP stuff in your comment above. Please do not opine on the motives or character of living persons. I agree we should note that he is either a formerly licensed private investigator or remove it entirely. I would also review all of these changes to confirm they comply with policy. He is clearly notable and merits an article, but the biographical materials outside of pornography need to be extremely carefully sourced and presented. They include statements about other people, living and dead, which should all be impeccably sourced and presented neutrally. Jokestress (talk) 23:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Jokestress You know after reading some of that last night.... JoeyD2010 (talk) 02:35, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Suggested edit

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.102.213.42 (talkcontribs)

Hmm. Or what. Hmmm. --j⚛e decker 05:13, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
There is a Paul Barresi in Australia who is making a name for himself as a local polititian. He was born in 1947. The birth date of this Paul Barresi is not accurate; he is older than 1949 birth! Dooor-Matt (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

BLP

I think that given Mr. Barresi's (if that's really him) objections, the article should be checked for neutrality. It is over half negative, after all. Coretheapple (talk) 01:37, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
I am grateful that other editors have taken the challenging task of cleaning up this article into hand!
I feel also that comments containing vulgarity and personal attacks ~above~ should be removed from the talk page. Dooor-Matt (talk) 16:48, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
(ec) Collect's removal included some copy-editing of a veritable petting zoo of WP:WTA violations, but it also deletes a lot of references and material based on them, some for being dead links (which we should remember is not actually the same as unsourced, though I can see in this context why people don't want to take someone's word for what they said) and others that aren't even.

Given the fairly hostile way some of the text is written, and the selective use/misuse of data from some of the sources, I appreciate the need to go through things carefully, but let's not destroy the village to save it - at some point people need to go back, run through this list, see which sources are irretrievably bad, which ones are archived somewhere, etc., and regenerate some neutrally written text based on many of these. Thank you for fairness. It appears our society prefers rather much too often to highlight the confessions of ones defects rather than any magnificent achievements one garners. Sad. I am 75 in a few months. The notion that an editor would characterize me in the current as a porn actor is disturbing to me. How bout highlighting the things Paul Barresi has done over the years with the benefit of clothes. lol. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C51:747F:B308:7CD3:781B:6F06:2971 (talk) 20:21, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Bill and I were both Colt models. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C51:747F:B308:7CD3:781B:6F06:2971 (talk) 01:19, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

He is a 'former' porn actor

Following the pattern at Ron Jeremy, Jenna Jameson, and presumably many others, I have edited this article to improve accuracy and also due to the BLP issue that once people have left the porn business, it is reasonable to accord them the dignity of so noting it in terms of how we refer to them. Heck, we even do this for former politicians, haha. Jimbo Wales (talk) 14:10, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
