== Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular) ==
Greetings, User Who! | |||
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
I left an extensive response to your comment regarding the Think Tank 30 article, please see the . I took various screen shots which I then annotated, but unfortunately, had no means of uploading them to Misplaced Pages nor Commons under the currently allowed licenses. As an aside, do you know of any way of doing so? I took screenshots of that CoR webpage you mentioned, annotated with hand draw numbers in MS Paint, a la Meta StackOverflow ;o) then saved to my PC. I wished to upload, so that I could reference my annotations in the Talk page discussion. I proceeded to do so, without technical difficulties, but would have needed to lie for my upload to be approved, so I decided it was best to ABEND. If you don't know, that is okay, and I hope you don't take offense, as I realize my question is presumptuous and that I shouldn't burden you with answering it.

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
