== Benson, Nebraska and other similarly named articles ==

For whatever reason, having the article called ] doesn't sit well with me, mostly because Benson has been an urbanized part of Omaha for a long time. Similar with other areas like ] and ]. There's even one for ]. ] even bothers me and that's relatively new. I would personally do this:

1. ] and other X Omaha's where X is a direction will be X Omaha. North Omaha would seem to be straightforward as to whether it refers to Omaha or not and if there is a ], for example, people can figure that out easily enough.

2. All other articles like Benson, Nebraska of the form Y, Nebraska will be Y (Omaha, Nebraska), or possibly even Y (Omaha). (We can debate what the optimal form should be.) ] (]) 04:37, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

=== Naming neighborhoods in Omaha ===

First, thanks for starting this as a conversation- I appreciate that. This is an interesting conversation, and one that we should make note of on a subpage of the project.

I wrote almost every neighborhood article in Omaha following the Benson, Nebraska format. After a little while I found the logic to it because of the historical aspect. From that angle, having articles named X=Former City, Y=State makes sense. That's why I named it Saratoga, Nebraska Territory: the article is more about the entity that only existed during territory era, rather than the neighborhood today.

About your proposal, I started the Omaha articles the way you propose here, and one of the other experienced editors came along and made them all Omaha, Nebraska titles. Regarding your second proposal, there is a precedence in other cities to use Y = neighborhood, x = city, such as ]. There is also a precedence using Y = neighborhood, x = community/area, such as ]. I would suggest that would look like ]. That seems a little clunky to me, but more finite than the current definition.

There was a conversation a few years ago here about the dilemma of Omaha neighborhood definitions, which is that there has been no definitive labeling of Omaha's regions/neighborhoods by cartographers, city officials, or academics as in other cities, such as Chicago. That lends itself to colloquialisms, which I've tried to legitimate through reliable sources. This works well with neighborhood definitions, such as Saratoga, Benson, or Deer Park. Its okay with downtown and Midtown, but becomes shadier with South Omaha and West Omaha, and most difficult with North Omaha- nobody's clamoring to be joined in that title.

So, as per your original question, I'd nominate that we follow:
1. South Omaha, North Omaha, Midtown, Downtown, West Omaha, Northwest Omaha as regional areas of Omaha. These each are treated as (direction) Omaha, Nebraska.
2. Neighborhoods are treated as (insert neighborhood name) Omaha, Nebraska

Thoughts?

:You bring up some points I never thought about, such as there really is no definition of what some places are. I know someone who lives in roughly the neighborhood of 60th and Q Street, and I ask him what he calls his neighborhood and he calls it somewhere between South Omaha and ]. South Omaha theoretically could go all the way to Ralston. And somewhere in between is the ]. You see signs for it in a certain area, but what does that mean exactly? You can go to other parts of the city, like where does Benson end and Dundee begin? What is the neighborhood west of Benson? There just isn't any hard and fast definition of anything, except that you know that if you are at UNO, you aren't in South Omaha, or North Omaha. But is that Midtown? Where does Midtown end?

:Having said all that, I would have to go along with number 1, even though it looks wrong and if I go along with number 1, I'd have to go along with 2. for consistency. In fact, it looks like they already did that for ] already. ] (]) 06:19, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

::One of the things I tried to do throughout the articles is cite the neighborhood boundaries when they were available, like I did in the ] article. I compiled most of these boundaries in ], but haven't added their citations yet. About the boundaries, I tried to figure those out earlier this year in a google map -> http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=118443093709615440330.00048e30cf18f6c3edcab&t=h&z=12 <- but that's by no means definitive, and certainly isn't a reliable source! Oh, and I just found - great! Creighton has officially succeeded from North Omaha... I have more to say, but am crammed for time. I'll write more later. • <span style="font-variant:small-caps"><font color="#C00000">]''<small>]''</small></font></span> 15:37, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

:::Oh, and what do you think about my point regarding the historical neighborhoods, i.e. ] or ] or ]. By definition, Saratoga was a town that morphed into a neighborhood; Squatter's Row wasn't really a neighborhood at all; and Little Italy's boundaries blurred with ], Forest Park, and all were considered part of ] while it was noted. What will be their naming conventions? • <span style="font-variant:small-caps"><font color="#C00000">]''<small>]''</small></font></span> 16:01, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

==US Collaboration reactivated & ] starting next==
] recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for ] about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See ]. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration ] is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is ] if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --] (]) 19:20, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

== Suggestion to add this project to the supported proejcts list of WikiProject United States ==

With the inclusion of WikiProject Nebraska into the supported projects list of WikiProject United States and the appearance that this project might have low activity I would like to add this project to the supported projects list as well. Before doing this though I would like to hear from the members of the project to get their comments. --] (]) 17:49, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

::It seems like you're doing this almost standardly across the state and city projects, and there aren't very many users who contribute regularly to this project, so as the project creator I say go for it. • <span style="font-variant:small-caps"><font color="#FFD700">]''<small>]''</small></font></span> 16:57, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
