Doseley is a village in the Telford and Wrekin borough in Shropshire, England. It forms part of the Dawley Hamlets civil parish alongside Aqueduct, Horsehay, Lightmoor, Little Dawley and Spring Village.
History
The village was first mentioned in 16th century when coal seams were discovered near the village. The village later began to expand during the industrial revolution. It was also close to where the 1875 Top Yard Colliery accident occurred, which resulted in the death of eight miners. The colliery was located close to the former Doseley Halt railway station on the Wellington to Craven Arms Railway. The village was served by the aforementioned railway station and line between 1932 and 1963, when the line between Wellington and Lightmoor Junction ceased operations. The station site is now overgrown and disused, although it is currently due to be reopened and reinstated by the Telford Steam Railway on their expansion towards Lightmoor Junction.
Amenities
The village is primarily a mix of residential, industrial and commercial. The main village centre is located between Dudley Grove and St Luke's Road. The nearby villages of Little Dawley and Horsehay provide local amenities for the residents of Doseley.
St Luke's Church
Doseley once had its own parish church, dedicated to Luke the Evangelist. It was built around 1875. The church was in use until 1975, when it was declared redundant and in 1980 it became a private residence. The former church is a Grade II listed building.
Transport
The village has no bus services passing through it, the nearest stops are in Horsehay, Lightmoor and Little Dawley. The nearest railway stations are Shifnal and Telford Central.
