History

The main building at CBC Perth

Trinity College was originally named Christian Brothers College Perth, CBC Perth or commonly known as The Terrace, and ran as a school for catholic boys, both for borders and day students. It was located in the heart of the Perth CBD, on the corner of Victoria Avenue and St Georges Terrace. CBC Perth had a brother school named St Patricks that also taught borders and day students. In 1938 St Patricks School closed and many of the students were moved to CBC Perth. In that same year, heads of CBC were notified that CBC could no longer handle both day students and borders due to the lack of space on campus. It was decided that borders and some day boys would be moved to an alternative campus, Aquinas College, to fit the needs of all students.

In 1958 the Perth Council negotiated with the Christian Brothers for sale of their property, as it was seen that the site of CBC was a perfect area to build a hotel, for the Chevron Hotel Group, for the upcoming Empire Games in Perth. It was agreed later that year that CBC Perth would receive a sum of money, around 12,000 pound and a 3 hectare area of land in East Perth. In 1959 much work began at both sites. CBC Perth was demolished with only the stain glass windows and a few other items kept. These are now fixed permanently in both Aquinas College and Trinity College buildings. Work continued at the East Perth site and finally buildings were errected and students were moved to the new school, now known as Trinity College, in 1962.
