Hello

Redlinks aren't empty pipes

In Huntsville, Texas, you undid a redlink I created, with an edit comment "rm empty pipe". What do you mean by "empty pipe"? Thanks. -- JHunterJ 13:23, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

It's a wiki-link to a nonexistent article. If you intend to create an article for the link, please do so first. Then you can link to it in other articles. --Evb-wiki 13:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

That's called a redlink, not an empty pipe. Please see WP:RED; redlinks can be useful even when I myself do not intend to create the article. -- JHunterJ 14:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

If the subject is important, why not create an article for it first. Otherwise, you're just assuming someone else will do the work. It's not like its real hard. I went ahead and created the article. I've also relinked it in Huntsville, Texas. --Evb-wiki 14:10, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Then please discuss on WT:RED rather than reverting edits that are within those guidelines (since they reflect the editorial consensus so far). No quotation marks are needed around guidelines, BTW. As an editor whose intent is to improve articles, I'll make my edits freely. If there is a dispute, I will certainly follow consensus. This "dispute" was resolved simply by creating the missing article. Again, IMO, no harm, no foul. --Evb-wiki 15:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

A guideline is any page that is: (1) actionable (i.e. it recommends, or recommends against, an action to be taken by editors) and (2) authorized by consensus. Guidelines are not set in stone and should be treated with common sense and the occasional exception.

I did not create OptionsXpress. If you check the article history here, you will see that I placed the original db tag. By the time I removed the tag here, the Co.'s notability had been established. The article has since been vandalized, and the notability-establishing refs. have been removed. I have now restored them. This link suggests the person is for real. She may be a self-promoting one-booker, or even a nut, and the article may be POV or an autobio, or maybe even spam (it's unsourced for sure), but it appears she's got a book published. See this. Motorcycle

Well spotted with the duplicate interwiki links. I reverted it. I do have one comment on your editing. You seem to overwikify the articles. One wikilink is all that is necessary to a topic from any page. While I did not go through the whole edit history of Motorcycle history, on which you have done lots of work, it is definitely overwikified. Many of the manufacturers are linked more than once and the years do not need it at all. Check this out. ww2censor 16:09, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Of course, on the wikification of years, at least in an history article, they are useful because they add historical context, as a reader can see what was going on in the particular year. But I agree, once should be enough. --Evb-wiki 16:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Of course, the tag lists it among the other articles that have been challenged and this is one of the many tasks they do regularly. Please be patient. Re: the "need refs." tag on Malcolm Ross (courtier). It is appropriate to remove this tag when you have provided the refs. Tags like "refs. needed", "cleanup", "wikify", etc. do not require admin. assistence to be removed. Please note that a tag that has been removed before the requested work has been done will likely be replaced. You will find that many articles live with tags for a long time.
