BigBang |
---|
Big Bang (빅뱅) is a Korean hip hop group composed of five members. Big Bang made its debut at the YG Family concert, held on August 19th at the Gymnastics Arena in Seoul Olympic Park. Originally with six members, one was dropped in the ninth episode of their documentary episodes. Big Bang's debut album was created by the members themselves. Although all members will be involved in promotion, they will not all participate in each song; certain members are vocals, while others are rappers. They are considered the new face of YG Family.
A documentary was broadcast on GOM Player, which increased their popularity.
Members
The leader of the Big Bang is Kwon Ji Yong (권지용) but his fans call him GD or G-Dragon.(Yong in Korean means Dragon.) He has been trained by the YG Family since he was 12 years old. During this training, Ji Yong and Young Bae were known as GDYB and they had a lot of fans even though they never released an album. He loves to dress and take pictures (of himself). Besides of rapping and beat-boxing, he can also write songs. Ji Yong writes and produces many of Big Bang's songs.
Taeyang (Youngbae) has been with GD in YG Entertainment since he was 12. He started out as a rapper but is now one of the vocalists of Big Bang. He always sports his cornrows, had his first kiss on the MV "My Girl". He is known for being scared of girls, and is the shy, sensitive one of the group.
The "Big Brother" of the band is Choi Seung Hyun (최승현) or also known as Tempo and T.O.P. YG's staff calls him Keun Seung Hyun which means big Seung Hyun to distinguish between the two Big Bang members named Seung Hyun. Before joining Big Bang, he performed in clubs and even won KBS Radio's "Rap Battle" in 2003. Tempo is one of the two rappers in the Big Bang and is also very talented in beat-boxing.
Kang Dae Sung(강대성), the "Smile Angel", is a vocalist in Big Bang. Fans praise Dae Sung's humorous personality and astounding vocals and dedicate numerous websites to him. During the auditions, Dae Sung was called "Unpretty Boy" but later on the staff team confirmed that Daesung is actually the most popular member in the Big Bang. Dae Sung has an obsession with and cannot live without "Doraemon", a Japanese cartoon.
Lee Seung Hyun or as everyone calls him "Seung Ri", is the "Little Brother" of Big Bang, . His name when Big Bang debut was "V" which is derived from Victory. YG's staff calls him "Mahng nae", which means "the youngest(usually in a family)". Before joining Big Bang, Seung Ri was on "Battle Shinhwa", a show that was searching for the second Shinhwa, a very successful Korean boy band. However, he was rejected in 13th episode because even though he was a great dancer, his vocals failed to impress. The manager of YG recognized his talent and invited him to practice with the YG Family. Seung Ri's greatest talents are dancing and choreographing dance routines.
Jang Hyun Seung , nicknamed So-1, was dropped from Big Bang in the ninth episode of their documentary, the show on GOM Television. He was considered to be a great singer and a "pretty face". Unfortunately, he did not pass the audition to become a member in Bigbang, due to his shyness on stage. Although, he was dropped from YG, there are still many fanclub websites dedicated to supporting and cheering Hyun Seung on to follow his dream.

In addition to a 6-month contract with "Skoolooks", a Korean clothing brand for school uniforms, Big Bang was also awarded a contract with FILA for three months. Both are reported to be worth 300 million won each.
