Monthly Challenge: Stand for Deputy Coordinator or support some candidates after May 5...

Article News
Project News
  • A taskforce dealing with LGBT publications has been proposed. If you are interested in getting involved, consider signing up at the projects' page.
  • Our core topics list is looking good. It's still a bit slim on LGBT history articles, non-American LGBT media, and important LGBT biographies. Do you have suggestions?
  • David Shankbone has done an amazing job taking photographs of LGBT celebrities. Thanks David! People interested in collaborating with him and setting up a photography taskforce should contact him or drop a note at the project's talkpage.
  • The LGBT Portal still needs a bit of love and attention :-). Again, any good quality (free) photos you come across on LGBT articles can be added to the gallery here. Volunteers to help out with the Portal are extremely welcome- make yourselves known on the Portal's talkpage. Updates to the current news items are helpful.
Deputy coordinator elections
  • WikiProject LGBT studies is looking for new Deputy Coordinators to help out with various essential tasks in organising the project. To nominate yourself or contribute to the discussion, please go to: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject LGBT studies/Coordinator/May 2007. The deadline for nominations is May 5 and the elections will last a week after that.
  • Candidates so far are: SatyrTN, Raystorm and Fireplace.
  • The elections will be pretty simple- everyone just endorses their favourite candidate(s). The three with the most votes at the end of the week are the new deputy coordinators, who will assist Dev920 in keeping the project running.

forgot the project welcome

Hi, Hopping, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Misplaced Pages editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Hopefully this helps you get acquainted with the project. You may also want WP:ARCHIVE info, since I'm flooding your page (I'll stop now =) ··coelacan 04:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Category:Sexual Orientation and medicine

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Sexual Orientation and medicine, by Joie de Vivre, another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Sexual Orientation and medicine fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Mis-capitalization of identical category name: Category:Sexual orientation and medicine

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Sexual Orientation and medicine, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Category:Sexual Orientation and medicine itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 23:59, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

National Coalition for LGBT Health

A tag has been placed on National Coalition for LGBT Health, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Welcome to Misplaced Pages. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself, as you did with National Coalition for LGBT Health. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. ~EnviroboyContribs - 20:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Monthly Challenge: June Stub Review! Take a moment and sift through the roughly 3,600 Stub-class LGBT articles. Are they still stubs? If not, make an assessment change. Even better, do you see anything you can add/edit to increase the rating? Let's see if the project can lower the number of stubs down below 3,000!

James W. Holsinger

Hi - that's not how you move pages. You've lost the edit history so it looks like you wrote the entire article from scratch. I've repaired it.

We need to discuss on the talk page whether we should move it or not - and then move it using the tab so that the edit history is kept. Secretlondon 20:50, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Category:Medical schools in California

I am currently going through Category:Medical education and found that you recently created Category:Medical schools in California. Do you think this is really necessary? No other states have a category for their medical schools. Most medical school articles are in Category:Schools of medicine in the United States and "Universities and colleges in (state)". If you don't mind, I would like to either delete the category - or at least remove it from Category:Schools of medicine in the United States. All of the US medical schools should be directly in that category. --Scott Alter 21:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Allopathic/Osteopathic medicine

With the changes you made, the Allopathic medicine article is now getting to be really about the medicine, more than the term itself - so I don't mind "Allopathic medicine" as the title. I just wanted the allopathic articles to parallel the osteopathic articles. After going through the Osteopathy article, it seems to describe osteopathic medicine just as well as it does non-US osteopathy. Do you think it would be good to rename "Osteopathy" to "Osteopathic medicine"? (The old "Osteopathic medicine" is now "Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine".) With Osteopathy renamed to Osteopathic medicine, all of the articles will actually be accurately described by the titles.

I think a comparison between the various types of medicine is needed, but it should probably have its own article. I don't think the comparison should be solely on the allopathic or osteopathic page. Maybe something like "Comparison of types of medicine"? Also, I'm sure that people from non-physician camps (naturopathic, homeopathic, etc.) would want some representation too. With a comparison/list page, all types of medicine can be added. --Scott Alter 02:24, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

{{Omed-stub}}

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Misplaced Pages:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Misplaced Pages, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Visceral manipulation

Hi OsteopathicFreak, please note that your recent creation, Visceral manipulation, has been flagged by me for speedy deletion. It will soon be deleted by an administrator.

  • If you believe you can salvage the article, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag. Instead, you can add a {{hangon}} tag at the top of the page after the {{db-nocontent}} tag in order to alert administrators who may be about to delete it!
  • You can contact me about this by posting a comment on my talk page. I will reply as soon as is physically possible.

Thanks! The post in front was made by Popexvi 21:08, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Balanced ligamentous tension

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Balanced ligamentous tension, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

  • Our Deputy Coordinators have been doing a fabulous job so far. Well done!
  • The portal is now looking very snazzy, well done to Fireplace for all his hard work.
  • The list of LGBT people to be sorted has now beed reduced by 20%. Please help us with it, all of us adding just one person a day would have a dramatic effect!
  • The Core Topics is now largely complete. The original aim of getting some kind of publication out of it is extremely long term - any short term uses we can make of it are welcome on the project talkpage.
  • A suggestion was made this month that we start our own wiki. Although the conclusion was that we felt we were a part of Misplaced Pages rather than a stand alone organisation, it seems there is an LGBT wiki already, at http://lgbt.wikia.com/Main_page . Members may be interested in getting involved there.
  • The Collaboration is now getting rather short on suggestions. Article nominations for August through December would be welcome on the talkpage.
  • There is now a list of Missing LGBT Topics. Help is needed to work out which topics can be made redirects or need to be created. Please contribute is you can.
  • An LGBT banner that was created for Misplaced Pages's internal ads system has now been adapted so it can be placed on blogs and websites. The html is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/WP:LGBT"><img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Qxz-ad48.gif" height="53" width="445"></a> Please credit Miranda and link to her userpage: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Miranda">Miranda</a>. The banner can be seen in action here. If you have a blog or a website, please consider adding the banner, either in a post or as part of your profile.

Between us

OsteopathicFreak, I want to apologize for jumping to conclusions about many of your edits. I'm involved in the ArbCom proceedings regarding Parapsychology, which have left me doubting the intentions of people who make contentious edits. (Not to imply that you make any more contentious edits than any of the rest of us - I just came across your new articles before they were able to mature.) I failed to WP:AGF, stemming in part from my frustration during the ArbCom with regards to editors who refuse to be willing to have an open and productive discussion. Because I failed to assume good faith, I apologize. I do want to let you know that, at the very least, I brought the AfD sincerely (believing that its salvageable material could fit into an allo or osteo article), but after combing over it (and seeing your improvements, too) I agree that it will end up being a long and useful article in itself.
