Lyrics

I don't claim to be any sort of expert on the subject of copyrights but here are my 2 cents. The first thing to do is to verify whether this is indeed a song written by Norman Martin and not just an old folk song which he made famous. That issue I can't help you settle. If it is his work then the lyrics are most likely copyright and posting them here is in principle a copyright violation. I say in principle because in this specific case, they are posted for critical commentary, for comparison with other variants and for comparison with other infinite songs. It's also such a well-known song that it would be unreasonnable to argue that their publication here has any sort of impact for M. Martin's rights to these lyrics. As such, my uneducated guess is that it is acceptable. Pascal.Tesson 04:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Re:The song that never ends

Good question. I don't believe that the lyrics to campfire versions are protected by copyright as they have not been published and/or registered. However, the original lyrics probably are. Do a Google search to see if you find anything. Keegan 05:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

PROD contested

You had {{prod}}'ed the article Doseuro. This was contested after the fact at DRV, and the article has now been restored. If you continue to believe that the article has been deleted, you should do an AFD nomination. (I don't think it speediable under any of the criteria for speedy deletion.) It would be best to look for some sources first, as the subject may be notable. GRBerry 18:20, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Mindspace

It's spammy, but not unsalvagable...especially if there's a source for the awards won. I'll work on it a bit to trim the fat & encourage some good citations. — Scientizzle 23:59, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

And strangely enough, right after another round of the continual debate about the warthog article, here I see you on Irishguy's page defending against that character. Warthog karma. Awesome. Baseball Bugs 04:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I like warthogs because I admire them for reproducing. I mean, everyone knows warthogs are ugly. That's the point of the Foxtrot strip, which is apparently too subtle for the combatants on that page. Anyway, it's kind of like with tarantulas. I wonder, do they know they're ugly? Cats are cute, and they seem to know it. Does one warthog boar say to another, "See that warthog sow? Is she ugly, or what?" Baseball Bugs 04:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Here is a policy that makes it not eligible for deletion, "Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such. " Both Gary Hodges and Tom Moncrieff were part of Buckingham Nicks. The producer and backup vocalist Charlie Chalmers has also been a major player in the soul music industry with uncountable hits stemming from the 1950's on. This is reason enough not to delete. I did mean that link but I could have used other. I put the message in and the anon still reverts to the badly linked version as do many others on articles about bands and the genre they belong in. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:46, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Zeitgeist The Movie

Thanks for pointing that out. I've salted the page. Just a little note: In the future, it helps to use the optional parameter of {{db-repost}} − e.g., {{db-repost|Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Zeigeist the Movie}} — when the re-creation is under a different title; this helps admins to find the original deletion discussion. In any case, thanks for pointing out the repost! — TKD::Talk 01:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

That is a disturbing policy. I've read the discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Zeitgeist_the_Movie and I'm deeply disturbed at the inability of Misplaced Pages to consider independent media as notable. I would think that a 2 hour film that took a year to research would be at least notable. I understand that you are enforcing what is officially accepted policy but if a film like this can't make it into Misplaced Pages, either the policy is being misapplied or the policy is misguided. I find this sets a distrubing precedent: Indy media that confronts the mainstream media will not be able to earn "notability" enough to get listed on Misplaced Pages. The Internet is flowering with excellent new films and Misplaced Pages seems to be the only place that censors them. As someone more experienced with Misplaced Pages than I, do you think there is any hope of this changing or is Misplaced Pages set in its ways? --Lxpk 04:39, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

template

I'm not sure, but there is Template:Uw-trivia, which asks users not to add meaningless trivia, which kind of covers that topic. There might be one in the deprecated Template:TestTemplates. Natalie 03:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Groucho: Now, what is it that has four pair of pants, lives in Philadelphia, and it never rains but it pours?
Chico: Atsa good one. I give you three guesses.
Groucho: Now, let me see... has four pair of pants, lives in Philadelphia.... Is it male or female?
Chico: No, I no think so.

Emerson Flag Co.

I declined speedy on this one, they assert (a) oldest X west of the Mississippi, (b) an Olympic sponsorship, and (c) inventing NFL team flags. All unsourced, as usual, heck they should have said they made the flags on the moon. Anyway, feel free to Afd this one, I did tag for sourcing and notability already, but an afd is probably in order. Re your messages, Yes, they're all semi-protected with no expiration. While he only hit your first archive, his pattern indicated he would hit the others, so I took preventive action. It will stay protected unless you ask for it to be removed or another admin undoes the protection. Your user page protection is set to expire in a day. That was also preventative. As for the revert summaries, I didn't mind, actually, I barely noticed with all the reverting going on. As you might have figured out, I was using my user page as a canary to figure out what his next IP was. That's why I was protecting all the articles and everybody else's pages that were hit, but not mine. I got a little tired of it after awhile though. -- Gogo Dodo 19:05, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I can see it just fine, even before your fix. About that RfA, yeah, I reverted the whole thing. That was out of process, so needed to get undone. -- Gogo Dodo 19:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

If you're up for it, here's another little task

User:Cunsimin has uploaded a bunch of images of a French Rugby player, every one I've checked is a copyvio of something, but there's a bunch I haven't checked yet. If you tag em I can delete em, but I can't just delete em (so the etiquette goes) singlehandedly. Lmk and I'll pass on sweaty rugby players (which may or may not be a step up from dung)... I asked if the other admins will settle on a particular block length and reason. Probably won't get a consensus, but we shall see. If you look at the contributions for that IP, you will recognize the pattern on detecting it. Random word-looking edits in a single line, random amount of lines added, always editing the whole article (no section header in Recent Changes), always an anonymous IP, edits in mainspace only, and a very fast edit rate. -- Gogo Dodo 06:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Friends

I would say take it to WP:MFD. The closest Speedy criteria I can think of myself is G2 - Test, but that doesn't quite fit either. Not really Nonsense or Vandalism either. I started to stick a PROD template on it (WP is NOT Myspace), but the PROD template complained in large read letters that it was nto for use in Misplaced Pages space. Re: Tried To Help An Odd Editor And Now Not Sure What To Do

Re your message: Oh, yes, I remember that user name. I saw his request for adminship at various places. I don't think it's really necessary to up the warnings. My suggestion is to nicely offer to help again. If he declines, well, there isn't much you can do then. You can't force him to accept your help. =) (And don't forget that you really are not under any obligation to help). As for the adopting thing, you can nicely point him to the adopter criteria saying something like he might want to read it before he adopts somebody. As for his adoptees, better to leave them alone instead of intervening. I think they will eventually figure things out when he is either unresponsive or unhelpful. He reminds me of another young, eager editor. That didn't turn out too well, but maybe this time it will be different. My main advice would be to be gentle. Being more forceful isn't likely to work. -- Gogo Dodo 06:32, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh, one more thing... Like I said, you are not obligated to help. If you don't want to help, yet you don't want to strand him, I'm willing to give helping a shot. -- Gogo Dodo 06:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Re your message: I see that CattleGirl has offered to adopt him. Instead of jumping in the middle, let's see how she does. One person helping out is better than two, I think. It's better to have a single person as contact. I will leave her a note offering to help out if necessary though. -- Gogo Dodo 04:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Bentley Little

The paragraph looks suspect to me. It doesn't really tell me anything beyond that he doesn't like computers (unsourced) and that he is notable. The second link fails WP:EL as rich media (java starts working when I go into the website) although I don't see how the first fails WP:EL (fan sites by themselves don't seem to). Removing reports

Hi. Generally, if it looks (in the user's contributions) like they have been vandalising but have not received sufficient warnings, I would just comment on the report. However, it appeared in those contribs like the edits were made in (perhaps misguided) good faith with only a single warning, so it was appropriate to simply remove the report. I guess commenting or removing reports is just a case-by-case thing, but I certainly wouldn't feel obliged to simply comment on every report that is clearly premature. Thanks ck lostswordTC 01:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Redirect of Pokemon films

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Pokemon films, by another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pokemon films is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pokemon films, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. CSDWarnBot 03:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

For the record, it was a redirect to a misspelled page. The page with the correct spelling is protected from creation. Forgot to mark the page as such after that had happened, whoops. :P -WarthogDemon 03:22, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

It's not an edit war: User:TTN is changing the article Dark Force (Phantasy Star) into a redirect; I believe this article is valid, so such a change needs to be discussed first. -- Stormwatch 23:16, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

I would post it at WP:AIV and let someone else do the revert. I assume that you're just doing RC patrol rather than really interested in that article. But either way, best to get some third party to evaluate it. Carlossuarez46 23:55, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Punctuation and parentheses

Thank you for helping with my user page. I believe my usage was correct: the exclamation point refers to the full sentence inside the parentheses, not to the two words outside it. Your observation is valid, though; the word "and" should be capitalized. Owen× 00:52, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Hah, thanks for the smile. The reason for warning myself is mainly comedic effect. I was on a tear to check my watchlist which was 2 days behind and saw the page blanking, but someone had reverted it, then I reverted again. After realizing I had blanked the page again, I reverted it and it opened my talk page, so I humoured myself and warned myself. Regards SpigotMap 01:00, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

My edits on the pokemon lists.

Does it seem to you like I'm being too harsh on the lists? It seems like the past couple days all I've done is revert edits of people adding things like "PokemonX is found on Route X in the grass" and "PokemonX looks like a Blahblahblah". Just looking for an opinion! Regards SpigotMap 16:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I normally just revert them, not as vandalism. I did revert a few today that WERE vandalism and did use the vandalism revert on them. Also, on the note of warning users, I generally never warn IPs unless they already have a history of disruptive edits. If they are a user, I may leave them a handwritten note on why the information they added was removed. SpigotMap 19:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Re your messages: No need to list me on WP:MW just yet! I tend not to edit very much on the weekends, which is why you didn't hear from me. Nothing drove me away or anything, but thanks for the sundae. =) I also got a new computer and having an absolute fun time transferring everything over. I'm a bit slow. Anyways, about your question, I see that particular editor was blocked. The whole Toys 'R Us thing does seem a bit too much detail to me, but I don't know a whole lot about Pokemon so I don't know if it's some huge event or not (doesn't seem to be, but that's just my uninformed opinion). You shouldn't break 3RR over content disputes though. Is it game guide content, well, I honestly don't know because I don't follow Pokemon so I can't tell what would fall into too much information or not. It seems to be too much, but like I said, that's just my uninformed about Pokemon opinion. -- Gogo Dodo 04:57, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Re your message: Ah, I see. I don't judge people by what they choose to contribute on, so edit away on Pokemon things. =) If you look at my contribution history with said tool, you will see that I have a rather odd edit history with one particular article that invites similar kinds of edits as Pokemon articles I'm sure. -- Gogo Dodo 23:42, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Point of clarification: I was adding a new warning for vandalism I had edited and beginning to number the warnings so it would be clear when we reached the 4th warning for purposes of blocking. I replaced the warning I left on that page, in appropriate order. I left your heading from your first warning, although the heading change I made was more inclusive of all of the editor's vandalism.
