Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Semi-protection. IP's having a blast adding inches to his height, among other vandalism. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 04:11, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection per the elevated level of vandalism from multiple sources, both user and IP, in the last weeks. Edits have been pretty much nothing but vandalism. VanTucky 03:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

indefinite full protection , Please do so so I won't be tempted with PeeWee..BoL 01:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Then why can't we just delete the page? —Kurykh 01:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Doppleganger notice. BoL 01:10, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
The doppleganger notice is pointless. Frankly, it's not even valid; the name in no way can be construed as similar to yours, and you and Gp75motorsports are the only people obsessing over this PeeWee thing. —Kurykh 01:11, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Declined I've deleted the page. In fact, it's totally pointless because, not only what Kurykh points out, but because it's blocked. Metros (talk) 01:15, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
You do know that I created the account as a doppleganger, not PeeWee, and no, I'm not helping him. BoL 01:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, don't pull that crap again. See Misplaced Pages:Username_policy#Doppelganger_accounts for what a doppelganger actually is. Metros (talk) 01:38, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Why don't you SALT it too? BoL 01:42, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Unnecessary. I have no reason to believe this page will be recreated. Why do I have no reason to believe it will be recreated? Because you'll find yourself blocked if you recreate it. Metros (talk) 01:43, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Declined While they're not a lot "significant useful edits" by IP editors, there is also not a lot of vandalism from them. Recent IP edits seem to be in good faith. Try discussing it with them. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 01:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Declined not much editing this month at all. The current dispute over peanut butter looks like an accidental oversight on the part of an editor who thinks they are removing vandalism. I've issued a message to the User talk:Doczilla to clarify. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 01:19, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here. semi protection or above required s this is suffering from original so many subtle flaws that are being done by a vast array of anons. The protection would also help because of how controversial this is and because so many users have self interest.YVNP (talk) 04:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Condensed matter nuclear science (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Administrator User:JzG ("Guy") redirected and then immediately indefinitely protected this article, while involved in a content dispute and an edit war which had repeatedly previously, and also has since, resulted in a different admin protecting the article to which Guy redirected. This violated two parts of the Misplaced Pages:Protection policy:

    • "During edit wars, administrators should not protect pages when they are involved as a party to the dispute, except in the case of simple vandalism or libel issues against living people;" and
    • "Except in cases of clear vandalism, or issues with legal impact such as copyright or defamation, pages protected in an edit war are protected in whatever version they happen to be currently in."

When asked to recognize this error and unprotect the page, Guy refused in a flippant reply. Because the protection violated two aspects of the policy, the page should be unprotected. MigFP (talk) 03:21, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

    Chris Hansen (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I'm an admin, but I'm not sure of the protocol in unprotecting BLPs. This was protected in July with the edit summary of "libel concerns." Do we keep protected, or unprotect and be very, very careful with it? I'll watchlist it to keep crap off, but I just wanted to solicit more input. hbdragon88 (talk) 03:03, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

    • Declined due to the expiry in a few days time. The semi-protection has been on for months, so it's time to try it without unprotection, but since there's already an expiry on the protection, there's no point in changing the protection now. If the concerns or vandalism return after the expiry, request the article for protection here again. Thanks! :) Acalamari 03:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Ontario New Democratic Party (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Talk:Matt Sanchez (edit | ] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

longer-term semi-protect This talk page had previously been semi-protected as it's a magnet for BLP-violating anons who have a grudge against the subject (or something like that); one theory is that some of the anons are the subject themself but I'm not in the mood to go that route right now. (sigh)! The subject of the article is also in the midst of an arbcom for talk page and other behavior and is not able to respond on the talk page, at least for now; the article is blocked as well at least until mid-Feb or likely until the arbcom case is resolved. We are now getting new anons since semi was lifted and since article is not changing for at least a month and given it's history I want to avoid the talk becoming more a forum to comment on the subject or the ongoing arbcom. Most of the regular editors have been receptive to abiding by this spirit but anons aren't and can more easily evade individual blocks. Benjiboi 19:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Jack the Ripper (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Note that I am an admin myself, but have history with one of the involved edit warriors (DreamGuy) that prevents me from taking admin actions myself on the article.

The Ripper article has been fully protected since late October because several editors were blanket-reverting each other. (I filed the RFPP request to get it originally protected.) Since the protection, progress has been made at User:Jaysweet/Jack the Ripper, and compromizes have been made on a number of the key issues. Not all issues have been worked out, though. But one of the key people in the discussion has not posted to the JTR talk page in almost a month, and absolutely no edits have been made to the user space version in a similar time frame. So the article has been fully protected for over two months, and any sort of progress is stalled by the absence of the one editor (DreamGuy).

Given the progress that *has* been made, and the lack of any discussion for several weeks, I'm not sure that the page protection is still necessary. But I cannot act myself given my history with DreamGuy.

Do note that, if the page is unprotected, a history merge from User:Jaysweet/Jack the Ripper back to Jack the Ripper should also be performed, so that the progress made at that version can be worked back into the main article. - TexasAndroid (talk) 16:49, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
