'''KCNC-TV''' is the ] owned-and-operated ] (]) in ]. It broadcasts its analog signal on ] channel 4 (67.25 ] ], 71.75 MHz ]) from a transmitter located in ], and its ] signal on ] channel 35 from a Low Power ] located on top of ] in downtown ].

==History==
The station first went on the air on ], ] as ] affiliate '''KOA-TV'''. It was owned by Metropolitan Broadcasting, a company partly owned by famed comedian ], along with ]. In ], it was sold to ]. In ], General Electric sold all of its television stations except KOA-TV, which changed its calls on ] of that year to KCNC-TV after the sale of the radio station to ]. General Electric bought NBC in ], making KCNC an NBC owned-and-operated station. The station was broadcasting nearly 40 hours of news per week by ].

In ], CBS and ] agreed to a long-term affiliation deal that saw all five of Westinghouse's television stations become CBS affiliates. This switch included ] in ]. After NBC won a bidding war for CBS' longtime O&O in Philadelphia, ], NBC offered to trade KCNC to CBS in return for WCAU. NBC also sold ] in ] to CBS as compensation for the loss of WCAU.

On ], ], KCNC became Denver's CBS affiliate in a move that saw all three of Denver's "Big Three" networks switch affiliates. Denver's longtime CBS affiliate, ], went to ] because KMGH's owner, ], had recently struck an affiliation deal with ABC, while longtime ABC affiliate ] took the NBC affiliation, probably by default (although KUSA's owner, ], already owned a number of NBC affiliates, and today, most of Gannett's stations are still NBC affiliates).

Under the terms of the CBS/Westinghouse deal, CBS sold controlling interest in KCNC to Westinghouse's broadcasting division, ]. Later in 1995, CBS and Westinghouse merged, making KCNC a CBS O&O, the second time in the station's history that channel 4 has been owned by a major network. In ], it rebranded as ''"CBS4"'' (although it retained the "News4" moniker for its newscasts for another 2 years). The station was featured in the 2007 film ].

Currently, KCNC is one of two network-owned stations in the Denver DMA. However, with ]-] ] being divested to ]' ], KCNC will once again become the only network O&O in the market upon that sale's closing and regulatory approvals.

In April 2008, Molly Hughes will step down as co-anchor of Sunday-Thursday evening newscasts and Karen Leigh of ] will take her place. Additionally, KCNC will begin broadcasting CBS4 News in high definition, the second station in the Denver market to do so. A new set is also currently being built and new graphics will accompany these changes as well.

==Translators==
The Denver market includes large portions of Colorado, ] and ]. KCNC serves this vast area with one of the largest ] networks in the country. All translators are in Colorado unless otherwise listed.
