Polite intercourse: some of my correspondents may not be sure how to address a person such as myself. I take no offence whatever at being called 'Ben' - it's an understandable error. However, 'Ben' is of course an honorific. My local friends call me 'MacDui'. (The whole of my name is pronounced: bɛn maxdoo-ee).

St. K

No problem - it is on my watchlist. Unfortuantely I will not be able to make it to the grill in the city of brotherly love (this time, at least). Ruhrfisch ><>° 20:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

It's all great test of patience of course, but hopefully there is progress. As a rule we are good at picking up on style and I fear fairly weak on substance. Perhaps for next April Fool's I'll come up with a GA on a completely invented island or similar. It might take quite a while for anyone to notice. I should get round to the Park sometime this weekend. At first glance it looks great, but I'm sure I can come up with a few tweaks. All the best and thanks for your support. Ben MacDui/Walk 10:24, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your Peer Review - we would appreciate any suggestions you have on species capitalization. I also found some data on the climate. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>° 11:49, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Have you seen this "view" from St. Kilda? You are there too (nice view) Ruhrfisch ><>° 19:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
No I hadn't, and thanks for pointing it out. Do they do them for Pennsylvania? Ben MacDui/Walk 19:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
No or at least not yet - all of the ones they have done are here. Most of the "mountains" in Pennsylvania are either actually dissected plateau (Allegheny Plateau) or very long ridges (60 km long or more, Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians). Speaking of the latter, I am trying to teach myself more geology for the neverending FAC and learned reading "Roadside Geology of Pennsylvania" that "The Caledonian Mountains of Great Britain, eastern Greenland and northeastern Scandanavia were originally contiguous with the Appalachians." so I'll say hello to some of your cousins Ruhrfisch ><>° 19:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes indeed. I have a holiday photo of us all together here although we have rather lost touch since the Jurassic. Ben MacDui/Walk 21:21, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Foula

What's H Smith? Anyway, the source is the Sabhal Mòr database (http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/faclair/sbg/lorg.php), the place name for Foula having been provided to them by Dr Iain Mac an Tàilleir of the Scottish Place Name Soc (he's the chap who provides the Scottish Government with the official Gaelic names of places), not sure how you'd reference that though. Akerbeltz 20:35, 03 April 2008 (GMT)]

Thanks for that - I've put it in as a citation. A wee bit rickety, but much better than nothing. Unfortunately it's not listed at Mac an Tàilleir's http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/vli/language/gaelic/pdfs. H-Smith is Hamish Haswell-Smith whose (2004) The Scottish Islands was already cited in the infobox, but who only provides a Norse name. Ben MacDui/Walk 21:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. You learn something new every day. It's not really rickety, thing is I don't think he gets to update the stuff he did for the parliament that often so the most up to date source is usually the college database as that gets updated more often. It's still the same source ; ) (if you click on Faic Tùsan on the search form (meaning View Sources) you see that it's him). Akerbeltz 22:43, 03 April 2008 (GMT)]

I'm afraid my Gaelic is all but non-existent. I can find Foula and I can see that Dr T is Faic Tùsan No 49, but when I choose 49 it just takes me to a page of 'A's with no obvious way forward. How do I connect Foula with 49? Ben MacDui/Walk 21:55, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem, it's tricky maneuvering a site not in a language you can read :b I don't think there is a way of creating a link that has Foul Fughlaigh and 49 Dr T on it by default (or even directly to the Foula entry), the website doesn't work like that. What you're getting when you click on 49 is a list of all the entries provided by Dr T (starting with the A's). I'd just link it to the site and leave people to figure it out. If they want to query it, they can always ask on the discussion page. Akerbeltz 23:43, 03 April 2008 (GMT)]

Re:

Ta for the message. Between you and moi, the most recent DYK turns out to be wrong, even though sourced! Thomas de Rossy (you'll recognize the name, though it's a different one here) went to the holy see and was consecrated! Bah to the Chronicle of Man and its followers! Walter de Coventre? The guy is so much work. I guess he, if he passes, will perhaps be the most obscure FA yet ... certainly among religious figures! Best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 18:15, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Done They are all obscure to me mate - although you probably think the same about Out Skerries. Ben MacDui/Walk 13:15, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Emery Molyneux: FA review

Hi, "Emery Molyneux" is currently undergoing an FA review: see "Misplaced Pages:Featured article candidates/Emery Molyneux". One reviewer has suggested that a fresh pair of eyes go through the article for readability. Since you were the GA reviewer, if you're free would you like to oblige? Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee 13:55, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I have been keeping an eye on it and am hoping to find time to do so soon. I did another FAC this am, have just committed myself to a peer review and have an FLC myself at present. I'll do my best but I don't think it'll be today. Regards, Ben MacDui/Walk 14:47, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

No worries. Thanks! — Cheers, JackLee 15:21, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:Saxon Orkney

Hack nonsense. This was brought up before, and I commented on it somewhere. Can't remember where though. A giant big YAWN! BTW, you'll need to triple the size of that wind farm article if you want it on DYK. meh. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 22:50, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I found my comment, here: User_talk:Mais_oui!#RE:BSW. I'm really sick to the teeth of[REDACTED] and all its daft editors. If one was actually going to nanny every crank on this site, you wouldn't have time for a life let alone do anything productive on the site. And the thing about crackpot fringe theories is that proper academics never respond to them, so you never get easy to cite debunkings. Orkney and Shetland seem to be one of the biggest magnets of all for this madness. I've heard everything, from Picts who stay'd there only in the summer, to Scandinavian oghams and now to English before they ever existed. Still, even a stopped clock is right twice a day, so who knows. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 13:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Re: (The wind farm thing)

Hi, you're welcome, and thanks for starting the article, I probably wouldn't have come across the subject otherwise. - Bobet 13:33, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On 10 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Beinn an Tuirc windfarm, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

In case you've missed it, I object to your edits and proposals at Scotland and Talk:Scotland. My reasons are there. --Jza84 |  Talk  19:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Help?

I'm tidying up a page (Usurbil) at the moment that someone ran through Babelfish... Ive added an infobox and I'd like to add a label for % of Basque speakers (as the Basque and Spanish versions have) but I just can't get it to work. I've currently added it as a footnote but that doesn't work very well... you couldn't give me a pointer on how to add a label for Density of Basque Speakers to such a box? Thanks. Akerbeltz (talk) 10:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with this template. If there is no field for this, you could use {{subst:Infobox City}} and then amend it. I'll try and explain if you haven't used this before. Ben MacDui/Walk 17:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hm never done that, I got the box from the Donostia page and assumed it would be easier to adjust that. Are these boxes pre-set somehow, or in other words, would it be easier to go to the Donostia page and ask if someone can add that to the box in general? Thanks! Akerbeltz (talk) 12:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes they are 'pre-set'. The 'subst' unsets it and allows you to manipulate it, but it can get quite tricky. I think you would be better off asking at Template talk:Infobox Settlement. Ben MacDui/Walk 18:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok I'll do that, thanks! Akerbeltz (talk) 18:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Comprehensive long lists‎ discussion

Hello, I noticed that you took part in the recent FLRC for List of Arsenal F.C. players and thought you might be interested in participating in a new discussion. The FLRC was closed as no consensus and it is clear the the issue of incompleteness in longer FLs is not over, so a discussion page has been started here. Please feel free to comment. -- Scorpion 21:22, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Big, grey and very fearful

You're right, it is "am Fear ..." rather than "an Fear". I think the article should mention the Yeti thing in passing, because although some people think it represents the same phenomenon (whatever that is!), it's not the most populat theory. Westerners tend to see yeti and sasquatch as animals, rather than guardian spirits/genii loci (sp?) as am Fear Liath is, and sasquatch amongst the Indians. --MacRusgail (talk) 13:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
