Subject Matter Expert

I created a page in my sandbox to show an idea I have for creating a Page or project to identify wikipedians as Subject Matter experts or near experts on a given subject. Right now its just one big page but if it takes off it could be multiple pages and or projects. The basic concept is that if I am knowledgable about Math, Science, Misplaced Pages policy, speaking greek or whatever I can put my name under the category or categories I am interested in participating in and if someone has a question or needs help relating to that subject they can go to that page and contact one of them on their talk page. Obviously its more useful for popular or obsure subjects but in general I think that it would help to improve the public perception that Misplaced Pages content can't be trusted. Plus it will give new users or users who jsut need help. Its still a very rough idea and right now I based the page on the Logistics page of the Military history project but I see this changing into somethin much bigger. If you don't mind take a look and let me know what you think. I know that there were a couple of things similar for designating an expert but I believe that last thing that WP needs is another voting pool. I am going to leave this message on a few other talk pages of editors that I work with frequently to get some general opinions or ideas before I try and sell it to the WP as a whole. Please let me know what you think.--Kumioko (talk) 19:03, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Vikings Coaches

Hey MFC, just a quick note to say that there's considerable discussion going on right now about the standards at FLC. User:Tony1 is leading the debate with some interesting and insightful views on how we should improve the descriptions of criteria and improve our list quality. The list is complete, for sure, but is it FL, i.e. the best of Misplaced Pages's work? Not sure. Drop Tony a note and see what he thinks, I'm not convinced it'd make FL right now. Come on, isn't that cheating? :P Juliancolton 20:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I guess it's OK then. ;) In any event, have fun at baseball. Juliancolton 21:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
BTW, I'll do a full review of your FLC once all the tons of issues that other people have noticed are fixed...or when I have time. I just don't want to pile up the problems until you have it under control. :) Juliancolton 23:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, ok. I'll take a look now then. Juliancolton 23:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Your edit(s) on dyk

Hi, thanks for nominating articles on dyk, they've often been good. But please take the time to read the rules on the page, and whenever you make a nomination, please take the time to look at the article and make sure it's referenced (unlike eg. Suzuki GSR600) and when you've written a hook, read it again and think "does this sound interesting?" How is it surprising or interesting that the geelong-ballarat railway is between geelong and ballarat? Just take your time whenever you make an edit, it takes less combined effort when others don't have to fix your mistakes. Furthermore, please make sure you strikethrough your own comments instead of someone else's. Thanks. - Bobet 00:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Rollback is for genuine vandalism only

You've reverted several good faith edits of mine using rollback (e.g. ). You should know to only use rollback on genuine vandalism. You should have been told about this when you were given rollback. Cal-Neva copyright violation

I've reduced that article back to a stub. Unfortunately, all of pavlen666's additions to the article were copied verbatim from: http://www.calnevaresort.com/overview.php in violation of copyright. In future, please monitor contributions more closely before awarding barnstars. Thanks. Voceditenore (talk) 15:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

New England coaches

It could still do with rewording. Who found out? Make them the subject of the sentence. It currently says:

"In 1978, it was learned that then head coach Chuck Fairbanks was negotiating with the University of Colorado Buffaloes to take over as head coach of their team while he was still coaching Patriots."

Make it an active sentence to something like

"In 1978, XXX learned that head coach Chuck Fairbanks was negotiating to take over as the head coach of the University of Colorado Buffaloes, ..." Where XXX is whoever found out, and ... is the result of the action. Peanut4 (talk) 16:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

It still reads quite poorly. Make it an active sentence and it's loads better. If it's the club directors or officials, make them the subject of the sentence. Is there any reference for this claim too? That may help you to re-word it better too. Peanut4 (talk) 17:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Much better. Active sentence are much, much better, especially ones with proper subjects. It is, it was, etc, sound so impersonal. I'll take a full look at the FLC again now (or certainly fairly soon). Peanut4 (talk) 17:18, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Your adopted child :-)

I have written my first full article Transition Towns. I'm pretty happy with it as a first attempt. Could you take a peek? Fribbler (talk) 23:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

List of Boston Celtics players

I just started the above and was wondering if you would help out. Thanks, Milk’s Favorite Cookie 21:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I like it, but it is totally redundant, as Boston Celtics all-time roster already covers all the players. Just try to model every letter after the letter "T" of this article. Maybe we can add flags and external links later. ● 8~Hype 09:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

DYK nom

Updated DYK query On 26 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article San Ardo Oil Field, which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Upload Image

Hello. Do youmind if you upload an image here? I would like a picture of the Turn 2 Foundation" logo so that it may be put on the article that would be created soon. And also, I would like an image of Derek Jeter with the kids too. Thank. If you can't upload the image on that site, please search around google. And don't worry, you'll be awarded.--RyRy5 (talk) 16:24, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Turn 2 Foundation. I am almost done with it. Just give me 5-10 minutes then you can upload an image if you can.--RyRy5 (talk) 17:20, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Almost done. I'm just trying to find a few more references. BTW, you can upload an image from the site I gave you without any problems, right?--RyRy5 (talk) 17:34, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
The logo is the most important. Well, I'd say just 1 or 2 references to go.--RyRy5 (talk) 17:40, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I finished the Turn 2 Foundation. You may upload the image now.--RyRy5 (talk) 17:59, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Your recent challenge

Would you be willing to add Portal:Professional wrestling to the challenge you just posted at the award center? iMatthew 2008 19:57, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Changing news

Due to what I see could be future problems with WP:AWC, I am changing my AWC Nominating Award Center Challenge to include only sponsorships for article improvements. Those who signed up before this change (you) will be granfathered in so that all the challenges you sponsor count. This is just a heads up. Thanks --Sharkface/C 20:20, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

References Challenge

After much deliberation on the Award Center Talk Page, I have decided to scrap the References Tagging Challenge. I will award barnstars according to completion of the challenge for those who signed up earlier but who haven't completed the challenge. How far have you gotten with this challenge so far? --Sharkface/C 21:04, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, that would be part of the References Adding Challenge. I sent you a message regarding the tagging challenge. The confusion comes from the fact that I branched off the challenge you originally signed up (adding/tagging) for into two challenges (adding and tagging), so that while your name doesn't appear under adding (which you've done), I understand your position. Now I'm wondering if you've tagged any articles using {{references}}. Also, you only have 77 more references to add for a barnstar in the other challenge. :-) --Sharkface/C 21:21, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Define the word "re-designing". Aesthetics or content? --Sharkface/C 21:25, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
If you want to go ahead with it, create your exact proposal on a subpage of yours. Then post links your proposal on the Award Center talk page. If the users of AWC like it, go ahead and change it. --Sharkface/C 21:46, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I guess you missed the huge discussion on the talk page. --Sharkface/C 21:52, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm just extremely busy in real life. (Last time I was just burned out) I may occasionally stop by to edit, but nothing much for a couple weeks or so. Very unfortunate, really.   jj137 (talk) 21:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah... I saw it... not too happy. I'm not going to be gone that long, although when I "come back" I probably won't be going as insane as before. If I'm gone too long, just slap me with a trout and tell me to quit being lazy, there's work to do ;)   jj137 (talk) 21:18, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages takes Boston?

Wondering if this was a good idea. Misplaced Pages takes Manhattan was a huge success and I thought we could possibly organize one for Boston. STORMTRACKER 94 18:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

There may not be that much in Massachusetts, but there has to be a lot from New England. STORMTRACKER 94 19:39, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
True, but I think there are many sites in Boston that need photos like New York. I'm pretty sure most of the people at WP:MASS and WP:BOSTON are from there, too. STORMTRACKER 94 19:49, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Notice

Be advised, there is a discussion regarding your Award Center AFD Challenge over at the Award Center talk page. --Sharkface/C 22:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Two featured lists

I've left a new note at the FLC Misplaced Pages:Featured list candidates/List of San Diego Chargers head coaches. However I feel the comments are appropriate to both of your current FLCs, I've commented on. Don't be afraid to raise the bar and improve standards of FLCs. I don't feel the lead is worthy enough for FL status at San Diego Chargers head coaches as of yet, but try not to just get beyond the line, but thoroughly smash it. See what you can do with them both. Peanut4 (talk) 01:47, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

A very good start. If you continue in the same way, in my opinion, you will have a great FL on your hands, not just a good one. Peanut4 (talk) 21:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

4/29 DYK

Updated DYK query On 29 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ronald J. Rabago, which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
