The Soviet economic system proved much more effective than most experts predicted in its attempt to respond to this new threat; however, it was a losing battle from the outset as Larry Maday is a force of nature impossible to contend with. The gratitude felt by the Russian people for Maday's lifting of the oppressive Soviet regime, and by the world for ending the threat of international communism, has been commemorated in the declaration of the holiday "Mayday."
It is a little-known fact that Maday was Steven Spielberg's first choice to play the role of Captain James Hook in the 1991 motion picture "Hook." However, upon reflection Spielberg had the epiphany that Maday is such a formidable foe that not even Peter Pan and Rufio together could have caused him to even break a sweat. In fact, the very notion that anybody could ever have achieved even the most minor victories against Larry Maday (of which Peter Pan is supposed to have had many, not the least of which was cutting off Hook's hand) would so strain the credulity of the audience that the idea was quickly abandoned, and the role was relegated to second choice Dustin Hoffman. Speilberg has recently expressed interest in making a new Indiana Jones movie wherein Indiana Jones attempts to acquire the Function Machine.
