Just wondering if you had a chance to look into that image I mentioned on my talkpage? --Dragon695 (talk) 12:45, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

=Why what your doing isn't heping wikipedia

"Category:American anti-Iraq War activists See also the related Category:Congressional opponents of the Iraq War.

Not everyone who is against the Iraq War is a pacifist, an advocate of nonviolence, a conscientious objector, or against warfare in all circumstances: i.e. a anti-war activist."

It is very clear that this Category was not created and is not supposed to include pacifists, conscientious objectors, or people who are against warfare in any circumstances.

You seem to like nice people so please act like them and don't revert my work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.143.1.204 (talk) 23:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Move to commons is fun

Hi Kelly! I just wanted to apologize for my grumpy stance on move to commons a few months back. I just got my TUSC the other day and have found it to be enjoyable work. It is kind of like a treasure hunt! --Dragon695 (talk) 01:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Cool - yeah, I find it to be relaxing. Kelly 02:02, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

What do you mean?

By this comment? - Arcayne () 19:07, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I would think it's obvious - yet another defender of the Foundation's policy harassed off the wiki. It has happened many times before. Kelly 19:10, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Are you suggesting that I harassed Spartaz off by pointing out a mistake? - Arcayne () 19:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Nope. Kelly 19:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I was actually worried that you thought I had. - Arcayne () 19:47, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Help!

I'm having major category sorting issues at commons. I've been trying to fix the sorting in commons:Category:Canon digital SLR cameras. Is there a special way to get it to sort numeric keywords in the right manner (1->9->10->99->100->999)??? Or do I have to prepend 0's to the keywords? I think I am screwing things up :-(. --Dragon695 (talk) 14:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Ugh, you've got me on that one. I've never worked much with category sorting (aside from creating new subcategories). I would post a question at the Commons Village Pump (I just posted a question there about video conversion). Kelly 14:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Well I've answered your question over there about the software.
On a separate note, I do have to respectfully disagree with you about Spartaz and others. I don't think it is fair to say those of us who support a less restrictive fair use regime are against the fundamental principles of a 💕. I support finding and obtaining free images wherever possible. I support using templates and other incentives to encourage the replacement of fair use, where possible. This is an effort I am trying to demonstrate in the work I am currently doing. However, I feel strongly that readers should not be punished just so we can adhere to ideological pedantry. Furthermore, I just totally disagree about specious arguments on decorative fair use, since it does little harm and will never be replaceable with free images. People learn in different way, some can understand with text while others do so with visual association. As someone who has both a learning disability and mental illness, I am very sensitive to this ideal. That is why I am fighting so hard. Not everyone will be well served when a fair use image is replaced with text. --Dragon695 (talk) 14:48, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the software tip, I'll give it a try! On the fair use thing, I understand your point of view. I'm not a zealot about it, I think fair use has its place here, but I think it tends to get abused without the tension of the free-content advocates pulling things back toward the center. I just wish people wouldn't personalize discussions and get nasty about it. You and I seem perfectly capable of working together even though we disagree on this - it reminds me that Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are best friends even though they fundamentally disagree on a lot of stuff. :) Kelly 14:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I agree, there's no reason why we can't operate without collegiality. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Heya Dragon695, didn't you mean ..."there's no reason why we can't operate with collegiality" ...? :) Gwen Gale (talk) 17:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I was trying to say. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:56, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Video Conversion

We'll continue the conversation here. Let me know when you have that video uploaded. Meanwhile, download this and use 7z/winzip to extract it to an empty directory in your C:\ drive. For example, I extracted mine to C:\ffmpeg. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Actually, you don't have to upload if this works, I'm assuming you already extracted that file to a folder like I said above:
  1. Open a command prompt using Start -> Run and entering cmd. Hit enter.
  2. In the black window that appears, type cd<space> (do not hit return) and then switch to an explorer window.
  3. In explorer, browse to the directory you extracted that archive in. It should contain a bin and a doc sub-directory.
  4. Drag the bin folder over to the black window that was created by cmd and drop it.
  5. Inside the cmd window hit enter. It should now show C:\whateverdir\bin>
  6. Go back to the explorer window and browse to the bin folder. You will want to place the wmv file there. Make sure the filename has no spaces in it.
  7. Go back to the black cmd window and type ffmpeg.exe -i foo.wmv -f ogg -vcodec theora -acodec vorbis foo.ogg where foo is the file name of the media.
Tell me what happens. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:29, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
WAIT. THIS DOESN'T WORK. Damnit! I can't believe ffmpeg can't encode theora. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok, get and place it in the bin directory. The command you'll want to use is ffmpeg2theora-0.21.exe foo.wmv, that should spit out an ogg file. --Dragon695 (talk) 17:43, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Wikibooks also has a tutorial for ffmpeg2theora here.
Thanks, Dragon! I will play around with this tomorrow and see if I can get it to work for me. Kelly 01:05, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Your revert

The user is banned/blocked. The open proxy that he is using isn't yet. Specifically, in this edit you reverted me to restore the comments of a banned user. Antelan 05:54, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Ah - who is the banned user? Kelly 13:01, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
User:Davkal. Regards, Antelan 15:25, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks - in future, you should include the name of the banned user in your edit summary when reverting their contributions to avoid confusion. Respectfully - Kelly 15:31, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) For completeness, the relevant block of this open proxy is here. I did not use the banned user's name out of respect for WP:DNFTT, but I will reconsider in the future. Please send me a message before you revert me on a talk page next time; I thought my edit summary had been clear enough, but if not, I'd rather hear about it first than find out by looking at my watchlist. Antelan 15:36, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks for the link. Kelly 15:38, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch. I love the 2 photos atop your page, btw. Belated happy 4th of July! Antelan 15:48, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, you too! Kelly 16:28, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
