Plot

The talented New York artist Harry Donovan (Patric) is an expert in forging famous artists' paintings, trying to become a legitimate artist in his own right. He takes up a job of forging Rembrandt for $500,000. He travels to France to study Rembrandt, where he meets the beautiful Rembrandt expert Prof. Marieke van den Broeck (Jacob) and soon they got involved in a romantic affair. Harry paints his "Rembrandt", then returns to London with his painting, only to be stunned to see Marieke there, hired by his clients to validate the painting. Things get more complicated when he tries to sell the painting, two people are killed, and Harry is framed for the murders. He flees, forcing Marieke to go with him, but is eventually arrested. He tries to prove his innocence and show that the painting is fake, but nobody believes him. At last he gets away, receives money from the painting's auction, and is joined by Marieke.
