== Speedy deletion of images on Omeath page - a little help please? ==
Hi, | |||
I don't login very often but got a pile of messages today ( http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk:Batsmyman&redirect=no ) re the speedy deletion of images from the Omeath page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/Omeath ).
All these are my images (or my families and I am allowed to use them as my own) and I thought I had tagged them correctly at the time (they have been up there for a while) so they could remain up.
Not sure how the image stuff works, but basically I wanted to put them up but have them tagged so no one could reproduce them commercially without permission.
If we cannot do the above, then thats OK they should stay removed, but otherwise they should go back?
Can you assist? | |||
TIA. | |||

Changing Chibi to SuperDeformed
I've noticed you have recently gone through a ton of articles changing Chibi to Super Deformed. However the two terms do not mean the same thing and I am concerned that you are not accurately taking in the context and making sure it is an actual "misuse of the term." I have started a thread about this at the Anime and manga project, and am asking that you please stop the changes and instead discuss your reasonings there.-- ] (] · ]) 17:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
My talk page
Hey I've noticed that you've reverted my edits on my own talk page without any sort of conversation or edit summery. Don't ever do anything like this again. Thanks! JohnnyMrNinja 18:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I spotted a blanked page, and unfortunately my Lupin script seemed to have a hiccup at that time, causing me to have to manually rollback the suspected vandalism; Hence the empty description. Apart from that, keep WP:CIV in mind while editing. Mot likely it was not your intention, but the line "Don't ever do anything like this again" didnt really strike me as veing friendly. Thanks in advance for that :) Excirial 18:18, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Assume good faith also. I just woke up and saw it at the same time as the above comment, and thought they were related. Apologies. JohnnyMrNinja 18:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Nike
Can you point me to the recent consensus for the moves you have performed on Nike? The only thing I see is an old discussion from 2007 that ended in no consensus. xenocidic (talk) 14:40, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Talk:Nike (disambiguation)#Requested move - was closed as move. JohnnyMrNinja
- From what I can see it was closed as It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it to be moved. --Stemonitis 11:19, 1 February 2007 (UTC). Am I missing something? xenocidic (talk) 14:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I have only ever seen the closing results in this position, as in AfDs like Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Black_Einstein. Discospinster was responding to my DB template. - Yes, it seems that the request was to move Nike to Nike, Inc. as opposed to using it as a disambiguation page. I will do the necessary juggling. ... discospinster talk 14:53, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, that was not the request. The request was as it is now (that you've moved it). JohnnyMrNinja 14:55, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

- For clarity, the request was for the double move:
- Nike -> Nike (disambiguation)
- Nike, Inc. -> Nike

JohnnyMrNinja 14:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- If companies shouldn't be disambiguated with "Inc.", then use Nike (company) or something else. Moving the article on the cloths manufacturer to Nike without any previous discussion (via a proper move request) and against the result of the previous discussion on the issue is not the adequate course of action. - Ev (talk) 15:29, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
As Xenocidic mentioned, that discussion was closed as no consensus for to be moved . And there's absolutely nothing "logical" about such a move either. In fact, in my personal view, the primary meaning is quite clearly the Greek deity... however, I have not argued for such a change. — Of course, you're free to start a new proper move request anytime you want. But, in the meantime, please undo your page moves. - Regards, Ev (talk) 15:15, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Jesus, do whatever you like. I misunderstood a strangely-closed discussion. I really don't care. JohnnyMrNinja 15:34, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, JohnnyMrNinja. I lost my temper here, and in all honesty simply failed to assume good faith on your part... my most sincere apologies.
- I think of these kind of articles as the ones that most transparently reflect Misplaced Pages's approach to the encyclopedic idea and tradition. Upon seeing your page moves, I interpreted them in the worst possible way, as a thoughtless and dismissive attempt to grant a mere clothes manufacturer more encyclopedic relevance than the millenarian Greco-Roman traditions & heritage of Western civilisation. - The many typoes and wrongly formatted wikilinks of my posts to this talk page show the subsequent adrenaline rush...
- I have reverted the disambiguation page to the status quo ante. - Once again, my most sincere apologies for allowing my temper get the best of me. - Best regards, Ev (talk) 16:09, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- I see now that the {{polltop}} template was misplaced, creating confusion. I have corrected that to make the closing admin's comment more clear, and avoid future misunderstandings. - I apologise again for jumping to conclusions. - Regards, Ev (talk) 16:48, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- No worries. I just feel bad for Discospinster, who only acted on my misunderstanding. I also thought it was a policy to have pages at the least-surprising position for the majority of people (but it turns out to be a guideline), and I have more fully explained my logic at the village pump. Speedy Delete for Aaron Green
You're a little too quick, there, Mr. Ninja. The article is clearly not Speedy Delete A7, as I've stated very clearly in the first sentence how Green qualifies for notability. And if you'd taken the time to read the article, the talk page, or any of the edit notes, you'd have seen that it's also clearly not spam. If you want to challenge the article's existence, go for an AfD. The article will be a keeper any way you slice it, so maybe you shouldn't bother wasting your time. — X S G 04:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have already addressed that on the talk page. JohnnyMrNinja 04:45, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

This link will bring up a list of articles with "video game" in the title. You can also find all project pages (to see what's been listed for deletion, what's been featured, and other interesting stuff), users (helps with recruiting for a WikiProject, finding video game userboxes), categories (so you can organize them to make sense and find any stray/duplicate categories), templates (to get an overview of what's out there, find user boxes), etc.. Not really. I guess just put a posting on the talk pages of those pages, but I'm not sure about bots and tools, etc. Is there a way to request an announcement like the ones at the top of the watchlist that you can hide? I think that way everyone would know. MrKIA11 (talk) 15:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Complaint at AN
I closed your thread at AN about LGRdC because nothing productive was going to come of it. I do recognise that his behaviour is frustrating but he does fulfill a useful role as the inclusionist gadfly. Most admins know how to weigh his arguments against policy and no matter how many times he repeats something if its not policy based it has limited validity in closing an AFD or deletion discussion. If the situation continues to upset you I would suggest that you considered a user RFC or mediation. I would say that neither of these routes will be available unless you can show that you have attempted to resolve the issue with LGRdC personally. Spartaz 11:50, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, you can always drop me an email sometime as I am happy to correspond with editors off-wiki. In any event, there are far more important things, such as price gouging by the oil companies, to actually get frustrated about than AfDs. --Happy editing! Sincerely, Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles 18:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
User:JohnnyMrNinja/Water in popular culture
You may be interested in the following college course. I see that you don't mean for the article to be serious from this edit; however, would you be opposed to having a lead that mentions some serious sources like the above ("The subject of water in popular culture has been the focus of course at the University of California") and then the list of references or would you prefer that be used in an actual article on the topic should other sources be available? --Happy editing! Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sonic Adventure DX DC cast promo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Sonic Adventure DX DC cast promo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:49, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Quick thanks for the copyedits you're doing on the TWEWY article. I just cannot see some of these things after looking over the article dozens of times prior to that type of review, and even with a pre-FAC ce, that still doesn't capture it all. --MASEM 06:04, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. They were very quick, as I really should be sleeping. I haven't played The World Ends with You, but I think I will now. Problem with Image:Cd cover image.jpg
You tagged Image:Cd cover image.jpg for deletion as csd-i8, but an administrator declined to delete the file, since he or she couldn't find a file by that name on the Commons. The file is missing some crucial information, and I would appreciate it if you could visit the image page and add any missing information that you can. Similarly, radio station logos are normally fair use rather than public domain, and therefore aren't permitted on the Commons. --Eastmain (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, I notice you tagged this file as a copyright violation. The PDB states here that all data and structural images in the PDB is in the public domain. Tim Vickers (talk) 03:00, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome, thanks. I couldn't find that info; it's great that they do that. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 03:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Re: post on my talk page
I unprotected it, but I fail to see why you are so indignant that I protected it in the first place. You have not made any edits for more than a month, and my "reverting to the last version by you" means utterly nothing. All it means is that you were the last person to make an edit to the page before the vandal did. J.delanoyadds 01:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was not aware that it is common practice to fully-protect things after one act of vandalism with no discussion or consensus. I am not an administrator, but I have maintained and edited most of the video game stub templates. Should I have to become an administrator to decide that a soccer icon is more useful than a golf one? I would not object to semi-protection, but a full-protection without very good reason is just saying that those who aren't sysops have no business touching it, and have nothing of value to add. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 01:48, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- No, you were correct. I overreacted full-protecting it right out of hand. I'll semi-protect it, as it is used on a lot of pages. Sorry for the hassle. J.delanoyadds 02:02, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Proposal: Move main page to a different namespace
The discussion to rename the Main Page was archived, so I moved it to Village pump (proposals)/Persistent proposals to prevent archiving. I don't know what the next step is but it would be a shame to let all that go to waste. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 23:57, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have no idea what you are doing, but you just moved it from an active noticeboard into an archive. We cannot continue the conversation in the archive, that is why I moved it to Misplaced Pages:Village pump (proposals)/Persistent proposals. Someone else had archived it, I fixed it, and you just moved it back. Misplaced Pages:Village pump (proposals)/Persistent proposals is NOT an archive, it is a noticeboard that doesn't get archived, so there's no timelimit. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 01:29, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- I archived the proposal intentionally so that I could restart it at Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical)#Proposal: Move the main page to Portal:Misplaced Pages. The previous discussion had become so ungainly that users were showing up, misunderstanding the issue, and opposing because of that. Restarting the discussion gives us a way to move past that and present a clearer picture of what is being requested. —Remember the dot 01:42, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Rollback access granted
After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback may be removed at any time.
If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! WP Pokemon as a task force
To reiterate, I agreed with that notion until Guyinblack pointed out something. To quote: "That's a tricky one that probably deserves its own section. It may have started out as a video game, but it now covers anime, manga, and card games too. It may be best to get input from other Projects that have overlap: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Board and table games and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Anime and manga. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:03, 22 December 2008 (UTC))"
It is a good point, given the material not related to the video game project covered by them.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 07:16, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- There's no harm in having articles within the scope of a task force that are not within the scope of the project, as long as it remains a task force. It could also be a joint-task-force with WP:ANIME, if need be. I consider the Resident Evil movies within our scope, as is The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. And Pokemon is entirely owned by Nintendo, which (as a company) is very much within our scope. I think that's the benefit of having a task force, they aren't exactly the same thing as the project, and if the task force is ever deleted, then the articles fall out of the scope. But as there is so much overlap with characters and Pokemon types, items, locations, etc., the only thing that really fall out are the episodes themselves. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 07:25, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm still not wild about it. They have the anime, but they also have the manga to consider. And the trading card game is out of our scope as well it seems. As it stands there is still a lot of exhaust from the Sega and Sonic projects being merged in, and the pokemon project does get a kick every now and then (someone started off on a dead run working on an article for the show's pilot recently). So I just don't think as of now it's a good idea. Time will tell more readily down the road.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 11:10, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, we need Template:Cat-classicon. Any chance you could make it? Martin 22:08, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I don't think it's quite as good as the other icons, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for a better one! Martin 12:32, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've been playing around, and merged all these templates into one: Template:Classicon. Should be easier to manage them. Martin 13:06, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi JohnnyMrNinja. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I just wanted to inform you that I declined to delete File:Oakland1977.jpg, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion under criterion F7 because of the following concern: There is a grace period of 7 days after an IfD nom. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion and especially what is considered Non-criteria. In future you should rather tag such pages for proposed deletion or start an appropriate deletion discussion. Regards feydey (talk) 09:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

File:23apasionado1total.jpg bad csd tag
The criteria to speedily delete says: " ...an image which has been tagged and the uploader notified for more than 7 days...". None of that was done. feydey (talk) 18:13, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I tagged it now and informed the uploader. feydey (talk) 18:23, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Deprecating GFDL 1.2

GFDL tags
Does "GFDL 1.3 only" even really work, seeing as how part of GFDL 1.3 is the option to move to CC? Does this tag then exclude that option? Also, was this tag created for a specific purpose? {{GFDL 1.2}} was almost deleted recently on Commons, and it may still be soon. Hopefully it will be here sometime soon. This tag is very limiting and probably shouldn't be given as an option. And don't worry about my processes on emptying Category:GFDL 1.2 images. The only ones I actually changed the tag on were directly contradicted by the uploader's text, or by an additional {{GFDL}} tag, or by the tag on the original image it was based on. The rest were either deleted or moved to Commons. The tag was created by User:Ram-Man because he wanted to use it, but he's posting directly to Commons now.
Was there a specific reason that this tag was created? Because I'd very much like to not have it here, and if there is not a specific reason to have it then we should probably at least wait until there is. Please see meta:Licensing update/Questions and Answers#Images and Template talk:GFDL-1.2-en#Deprecating this template for future use. If you actually read this far, thanks! ~ JohnnyMrNinja 23:30, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- I created the GFDL-1.3 tag because some OTRS tickets came in licensing images under GFDL 1.3 only. It would be a copyright violation to put a GFDL 1.2 and later, or a GFDL any version, or any other license tag on the images. GFDL 1.3 is a valid free license, although not an especially good one, and it is correctly not an option on the license selector. Indeed, no GFDL-only licenses are there.
- I would support deprecating all GFDL license tags for images, because they put silly restrictions on reuse, but they are still free licenses and images should not be rejected just because they're tagged with one. Stifle (talk) 09:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of File:Turbochannel1.jpg
Thanks so much for having this self-made, public domain image deleted. And what gives your obliteration still more impact is the fact that I cannot locate a backup of this image, which I made several years ago, nor does it turn up even in Google cache--therefore ensuring that the eradication is without possibility of recovery. Again, bravo! —Ryanaxp (talk) 15:33, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Stifle
Yes I am irritated as I put up the hold template before the image was deleted and he did not even aknowledge me when he deleted it until I went to his talkpage. As soon as I get my internet back to broadband speed I will be doing as you suggested and emailing his representatives, but honestly I will not find it likely that I will be responded to by a person who has read my email. I am also aware that he would want a good picture of himself on wikipedia and it took me alot of my free time to get this particular screen shot, alot as I did it while I had 56kbps speed. And went through 10 photos with the input of 10 people to get the best image of Don Omar. Then I went through reading all the policies and taking all the time to upload the image the way I did. So you can understand why I would be irritated when someone deleted it without even aknowledging me. I'm sorry to badger and be a pain, but can you see my point of view? I spent alot of my own free time getting that picture on his page only to have it deleted not long after. Kartel King (talk) 13:37, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Re File:0935.jpeg
I uploaded that photo after contacting Dr. and Mrs. Langstroth at lnllang comcast.net, requesting permission to use their photo of Leptasterias pusilla for the wikipedia article "Leptasterias pusilla," which they granted under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, and permission was sent to the OTRS system. This was a long time ago, but I did send an email to the OTRS system. Please do not delete it? kilbad (talk) 13:34, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's not that I don't believe you, but someone should have added the ticket number when it was approved. An OTRS ticket number isn't much good if nobody can see it. I put the tag up so that someone with clearance would notice and find the ticket number (I've asked Stifle). I'd actually like to move it to Commons, so all the Wikipedias can use it, but cannot without that ticket number. So there's nothing for you to worry about. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 13:46, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have no problem if you want to move it to the commons. I just ask that you keep it from deletion as permission was granted by the owner. Thanks again. kilbad (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's okay, as long as there is a ticket it won't be deleted. But it is important for any images that claim to have a ticket actually show the number. It is too easy to abuse the system otherwise. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 13:51, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Found it, it's Ticket:2007040610010225. Unfortunately, the email does not contain a valid license; only permission to use on Misplaced Pages. Stifle (talk) 14:22, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- So what needs to be done at this point to prevent deletion? kilbad (talk) 15:34, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, as you've already been in communication with them, if you could contact them and get them to specify a free license like GFDL or CC-BY-SA, then we can keep it. The problem is that a lot of other sites reuse WP material, so we can't have anything that is only for Misplaced Pages. I'm not sure if the ticket can be amended or if a new one needs to be created. Stifle? ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 15:39, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- I don't have the old email, could someone post the text of it somewhere? I thought I discussed licensing under GFDL? kilbad (talk) 16:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have no problem if you want to move it to the commons. I just ask that you keep it from deletion as permission was granted by the owner. Thanks again. kilbad (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of images on Omeath page - a little help please?
Hi,
I don't login very often but got a pile of messages today ( http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk:Batsmyman&redirect=no ) re the speedy deletion of images from the Omeath page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/Omeath ).
Can you assist?
TIA.
