Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Either semi-protect, because of IP/sock puppets involved in slow revert war between established editors, or full protect, based on the slow edit war over chinese/taiwanese taipei/nanjing terminology. SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 19:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Parental alienation syndrome (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full protection. Ongoing edit warring for several days with minimal engagement on the talk page. Note that I'm one of the edit warrers. WLU (t) (c) Misplaced Pages's rules:/complex 17:46, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

addendum, since I was going to request this too. I gave a warning that page protection was imminent on the talkpage. . WLU made one uncontroversial change after acknowledging the warning . The other editor Michael H 34 has continued making major controversial changes post acknowledgement. --Slp1 (talk) 18:00, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I am completely fine with the current wrong version (which is totally wrong in so many ways) being protected as long as it means the talk page can be used fruitfully. WLU (t) (c) Misplaced Pages's rules:/complex 18:37, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I characterize the edits referred to by Slp1, which occurred prior to the request for page protection, as productive, uncontroversial and an attempt at a solution to concerns presented on the talk page. Michael H 34 (talk) 18:56, 6 May 2009 (UTC) Michael H 34
I'm sure you do think your edits were just what you say! Not sure others would agree, FWIW. However, they occurred after I asked you and WLU to voluntarily confine yourself to the talkpage. I warned that I would request page protection if you continued to edit war. Which you did. And here we are! --Slp1 (talk) 19:04, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection dispute, As mentioned on the article talk page, the former president refuses to accept that he was removed from the board and is editing Misplaced Pages to reflect his desires, rather than reality. MaxHarmony (talk) 17:09, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection.--GedUK  19:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Al Sharpton (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IP vandalism; POV-pushing edits. Willking1979 (talk) 15:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Argh! We did this at the same time, though I didn't leave an expiry. Acalamari 15:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Never a problem :-) Do you what you think is better. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 16:00, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I compromised and dropped it to a month, as my protection technically came after yours. Is that okay? Acalamari 16:01, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Human Rights Foundation (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection, violations to WP:BLP, WP:RS and WP:NPOV.Proofknow (talk) 15:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. There's an edit war going on here, and there's two of you at or beyond 3RR. Come to an agreement on the talk page about what sources are reliable, take it to Misplaced Pages:Reliable sources/Noticeboard if you can't. I will monitor the page, and if the war starts straight back up again, i'll reprotect it. --GedUK  19:51, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Supermodel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection, Article prone to add-your-favorite-models edits by anonymous IPs; when they come with sources, it's usually the poorest variety - flashpuzzlezone.com, livejournal, etc. Several users continually reverting these edits to maintain article's verifiability and neutrality, but semi-protection would help.  Mbinebri  14:39, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  19:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Britney Spears discography (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Anonymous IP's continue to tweak and falsify album sales numbers, not providing any sources for these numbers whatsoever. Percxyz (talk) 14:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Max Mosley (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection Rather urgent request: Max Mosley's son has recently died, but some people keep adding a death date to Max's article for Max himself. AdmiralKolchak (talk) 14:18, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. –Juliancolton |  14:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you; hopefully that should go a long way to preventing another Ted Kennedy. AdmiralKolchak (talk) 14:27, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    User talk:194.176.105.40 (edit | user page | history | links | watch | logs)

semi-protection user talk of blocked user, IP blocked for a year but there may be possible talk page abuse as indicated in the page history. It was last protected during the last 3 month block. Momo san 14:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Note that this page is known to be used by banned user User:Hamish Ross. Momo san 14:35, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Only 2 edits to the page, both unblock requests. I think that's reasonable and not abusing the page. If they carry on, then the best thing to do would be amend the block so they can't edit talk pages. --GedUK  19:27, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Kris Boyd (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Kelly Killoren (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection dispute, Kelly's publicists, under a variety of accounts and IPs, keep removing cited unfavorable information and adding uncited promotional information. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 12:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined It's one editor really. Report to AIV if they carry on once someone has explained to them what the problem is. --GedUK  19:23, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    1964 Brazilian coup d'état (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection, Article protection no longer necessary, no dispute in over three months.. The section tagged for NPOV appears to be neutral. DS 03:17, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Not unprotected Please ask the protecting admin, Jéské Couriano (talk · contribs). There hasn't been a dispute in three months because the page has been fully protected so no-one could edit it. --GedUK  07:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Note: Please ask the protecting administrator, Jéské Couriano (talk · contribs), first. Regards SoWhy 07:25, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

    Ted Leonsis (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection Protecting adminstrator claimed "persistent and significant" BLP violations. The only two instances of vandalism in the past year were two edits yesterday. Protection is unwarranted. Grsz 17:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I see you've dropped a note on the protecting admin's talk page. Perhaps we should wait for a response. FYI, the admin seems to have protected in response to this request.--RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 18:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
One of those was a legitimate edit that the same IP eventually provided a source for. The protecting admin seems to be using User:Lar/Liberal Semi, which doesn't exactly mesh with WP:SEMI. Grsz 03:50, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Grasz11's assessment. The protecting administrator is using another user's personal reasons for protection rather than policy reasons, which should be discouraged (there are no grounds in both WP:SEMI and WP:BLP (see Misplaced Pages:BLP#Semi-protection and protection) for such a protection). Seeing that unprotecting this article might result in wheel-warring, I think it should be taken to WP:AN or WP:ANI though. Regards SoWhy 07:32, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I see this has been taken to ANI... just as a note, I'll say what I said there. "While the protection is within (a liberal interpretation) of policy, if someone wants to take a particular article to RFPP and ask that it be unprotected, that's fine. If consensus is that it be unprotected, that's fine too. This little experiment is not intended to supplant more official processes. So no worries and thanks for the heads up." It's OK to differ about policy. ++Lar: t/c 17:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
