The Hawiye tribe is a Somali clan. They live mostly in central and southern Somalia, but also in smaller numbers in Kenya and Ethiopia. The Hawiye descended from Irir Samaale, a common ancestor to Somalis. Some sources indicate that Hawiye allways been the largest Somali clan.

Abdullahi Isse, the chairman of the Somali Youth League (which fought for Somalian Independence), Aden Abdullahi Osman, the first president of Somalia, and the father of Somali military, general Daud Abdulle Hirsi were members of the Hawiye clan.
