Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Palestine-Israel articles

As a result of the above-named Arbitration case, the Arbitration committee has acknowledged long-term and persistent problems in the editing of articles related to Israel, Palestine, and related conflicts. As a result, the Committee has enacted broad editing restrictions, described here and below.

• Any uninvolved administrator may, on his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
• The sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length; bans from editing any page or set of pages within the area of conflict; bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics; restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
• Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor in question shall be given a warning with a link to this decision; and, where appropriate, should be counseled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Discretionary sanctions imposed under the provisions of this decision may be appealed to the imposing administrator, the appropriate administrators' noticeboard (currently WP:AE), or the Committee.

These editing restrictions may be applied to any editor for cause, provided the editor has been previously informed of the case. This message is to so inform you. This message does not necessarily mean that your current editing has been deemed a problem; this is a template message crafted to make it easier to notify any user who has edited the topic of the existence of these sanctions.

Generally, the next step, if an administrator feels your conduct on pages in this topic area is disruptive, would be a warning, to be followed by the imposition of sanctions (although in cases of serious disruption, the warning may be omitted). Hopefully no such action will be necessary.

Bless Sins, Continual removal of properly sourced content is even more severe violation, and such behavior will result in the person removing the content being blocked, not the one trying to maintain a neutral balanced Misplaced Pages article.

Why the negative/positive nature doesn't matter: "Misplaced Pages standards states that fact must be presented as fact in a dry insipid un-opinionated manner. It is not up to you to decide that the "fact" which you consider to be "defamatory", can be removed and everything else can be allowed to stay. In fact editors, are not even supposed to judge weather some "fact" is positive, negative, defamatory, e.t.c. Your input on WP:RS/Noticeboard#Are_university_professor's_blogs_RS?

I read the comment you put on Misplaced Pages:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Are_university_professor's_blogs_RS? here and I've read a response to your comment that user:ImperfectlyInformed added here.

I believe user:ImperfectlyInformed was referring to where WP:SPS reads "Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications." This would seem to suggest (to me and, it seems, to user:ImperfectlyInformed) that www.alicedreger.com would be count as a reliable source only within her field of expertise, but like any other self-published source otherwise (as you pointed out).

Your reaction on the noticeboard, in either direction, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Allegations of apartheid deletion notification

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this today. I think an article with the title "Views of..." or "Appraisals of..." - which documents views across the spectrum- be they critical, revisionist (i.e. academic but minority theories), or more judgement oriented perspectives. Question about Amir al-Mu'minin

Hello. I cannot register an account (because I rarely use Misplaced Pages as it is), but I am writing a book on Islamic Caliphates, and I believe "WikiProject Islam" would be able to help, so I am asking you and others who has put their name on the "Expert Wikipedians in Islamic issues" list who might be able to help. I am about the title "Amir al-Mu'minin" which many Caliphs claim and which is the standard Arab-style Caliphate title. What I want to know is: Do everyone who uses the title "Amir al-Mu'minin", by extension, claim they are also the Caliph? So would the Morroco Sultan, Muhhamed Omar (leader of the Taliban), and the Sokoto Sultan, all implictly claiming the title of "Caliph" by claiming the title "Commander of the Believers"?

Qur'an as source on science

I have a science related question, arising from looking at Timeline of science and engineering in the Islamic world. The first few entries are all about the Qur'an and the hadiths. I'm not familiar with the subject, but I do know that similar claims about the bible are generally ignored by historians of Western science and technology. In your opinion, do those entries belong in an article about science in the Islamic world, or are they more properly confined to the existing articles Qur'an and science and Islam and science, with a "See also" link in the timeline article? Sunni view of the Sahaba

Hi, I was just looking to tidy up the article when I ran into a the section Sunni view of the Sahaba#Other Sahaba. In particular the line "Those who gave bay`at al-ridwân under the Tree and those Ansar distinguished for the two pacts preceding Emigration (al-`aqabatayn);" In this case does "bay`at al-ridwân under the Tree" refer to the Pledge of the Tree and I assume that the emigration is Hijra (Islam)? Working on Article: Surah Al-Muminun

Assalamualaykum,

Thought I'd let you know I'm trying to put in some material for articles describing the various Surahs of the Quran InshaAllah (my most recent being Surah Al-Muminun. Now, there is not much I can do with my limited knowledge and resources, besides there IS a lot of wisdom in the adage 'Two heads are better than one' when it comes to learning and trying to put in words, something about a subject as vast as this.

P.S. Lets try to make that 'More than two'... AND not to forget, the adjectives 'reliable' & 'authentically sourced' :) (Everything is but, InshaAllah of course)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. Recent edits on Safiyya bint Huyayy

Recently few sections of article have been removed. These sections were based on Martin Lings' work, reason cited was that Lings is not a historian and was just a writer.

But same article quotes Wafa Sultan who is a psychatriat.

The difference seems to be is that Lings quotation were in support of Muslim view while Wafa's are against.

I think a discussion is needed over this issue.
