Hi Bob, sorry I haven't been around much in the past few days. It does look like things have been escalating a little lately, but it appears you have largely managed to keep your cool. I wrote a rather long (for me) thread at ANI regarding what has been going on, I hope you get a chance to read it. I wont reiterate what I said there, accept to say that assuming good faith is the best solution and to ask that you thoughtfully consider what is written at ]. I realize that you are seeing a stressful and aggravating side of Misplaced Pages right now, but I hope you can understand that it is easy to get through it and back to the enjoyable side. Please let me know if there is anything I can do or if you have any questions at all, I will try and check my watchlist as much as I can in the next couple of days. --] (]) 21:25, 1 July 2009 (UTC | Hi Bob, sorry I haven't been around much in the past few days. :::My comment is the second one in the "update" subsection. Basically I agreed that there were ownership issues, but asked that other editors look at the situation from your perspective (if you still can't find it, let me know). By the same token, I would ask you to look at the situation from the perspective of the other editors. When I first edited the Vega article, making what I felt were pretty uncontroversial improvements, you reverted many of them and left a message on my talk page, basically telling me not to make these kinds of changes to the article. This sort of thing is what other editors are concerned about. I made a decision not to step on your toes, because I respect your contributions, however I warned you about what might be perceived as ownership issues and that other editors may not show this same kind of respect. I'm not surprised you have had enough, this ANI and the associated drama is really one of the worst aspect of Misplaced Pages (from the point of view of a contributor). However it will pass and we can move on to being more productive (in fact I would more or less consider the matter closed). Here is my advice which if you stick to will completely avoid this sort of problem in the future: If someone makes an edit to an article that you disagree with, don't revert it, don't post on their talk page, go straight to the article talk page and post a cogent argument against the change. Give it a couple of days and if you don't get a response go ahead and revert, pointing to the discussion on the talk page. Otherwise engage in a discussion with the editor who made the change, other editors will hopefully chime in and a consensus will emerge regarding whether the changes were an improvement or not. Next abide by the consensus, even if it is against you. If you follow this advice, the drama will evaporate. --] (]) 01:40, 2 July 2009 (UTC) |

Resolved image copyright concerns |

Thanks for uploading File:Motor trend 73.jpg.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:28, 20 February 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Valley2city 09:28, 20 February 2009 (UTC) ) File copyright problem with File:No.1vega.jpgThank you for uploading File:No.1vega.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Misplaced Pages takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

I see that you have uploaded a number of images to Misplaced Pages. First off, thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately, there are some guidelines that we need to follow with copyrighted images. Specifically, you need to add a source for the image (a link to a website will do), a copyright tag (there are some listed at WP:ICT), and a rationale explaining why we can use a copyrighted image (explained at WP:NFURG). I see that your images fail to include one of these. Please stop uploading images and address the concerns listed above. If you need assistance, you can ask at the help desk. If you do not fix these images, and you continue to make bad uploads, you will be blocked and your images will be deleted. Thanks for your contributions! STBotI (talk) 00:27, 5 March 2009 (UTC) File source problem with File:Vega vert a pak train.jpgThanks for uploading File:Vega vert a pak train.jpg. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. You need to state your concerns on the talk page, try to contact the users who placed the tag on the image, and alter the fair use rationale in order to address these concerns. Repetitively removing tags such as these is disruptive. Please follow basic image policies, and be careful how you use copyrighted content in the future (see WP:NFC). Magazine adsGreetings. I commented at Misplaced Pages:Files for deletion/2009 April 7#71 Chevrolet Vega Ad-Promo.jpg, and I thought you'd be interested to know that this and most other magazine ads from before 1978 are actually in the public domain. This isn't widely known. I support the addition of public domain images to Misplaced Pages, and I'm quite willing to help you determine if a given image is PD or not. Let me know if you have any troubles with images or need any help. – Quadell 12:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC) Please stop your disruptive editing. Recent PD claimsYou recently changed the tagging of several images to PD—perhaps in response to Quadell’s comments above about magazine ads. I fear you may be confused by those comments. Notice that he did not say that everything published before 1978 is PD. Some of the images (File:71 Chevrolet Vega Hatchback Coupe.jpg, File:71 Vega sedan.jpg, File:71 Vega Panel Express-red.jpg, File:71 Chevrolet Vega Kammback Wagon.jpg) are photos of individual cars. These have no indication of a source. They may be PD, but they need a detailed source so that the PD claims can be verified. I have tagged them {{di-no source}}, which is a "speedy" deletion tag. Some other images (File:Road Test mag. 74 Vega LX.jpg, File:Chevrolet promo poster -2 from 1973.jpg, File:Chevrolet promo poster from 1973.jpg) are magazine covers. Notice that as Quadell says at Misplaced Pages:Files for deletion/2009 April 7#71 Chevrolet Vega Ad-Promo.jpg, the magazines themselves are copyrighted. The fact that Chevrolet reprinted the covers does not negate those copyrights. I fear that your change to a PD claim may create copyright violations. —teb728 t c 22:59, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
(VegavairbobVegavairbob (talk) 23:43, 11 April 2009 (UTC)) OK, how about File:DeLorean and Vega in 1971.jpg then? Isn’t that “NY Times-NY Times Archives 2005 copyright New York Times”? —teb728 t c 18:59, 12 April 2009 (UTC) The three photos in this revised file were released by Chevrolet in 1970 as part of a public relations press folder. Similar situation as the Motor Trend magazine issuing the Chevrolet ad. (Times doesn't hold the copyright) The photos were issued by the Times many years later as public domain images. The source of these three photos is Chevrolet, and were first issued in 1970 by Chevrolet public relations. I incorrectly listed the Times as copyright holder and source on the original file. As they were first issued by Chevrolet before 1978, I have added the correct copyright tag and source on this reduced size version. Courteous editing
- I must say I really like the edits you've been making; the article's definitely getting better. One technique I find very helpful in cases where there's a lot of work to be done is to hit Edit, select all the text in the edit window, copy it, paste it into a text editor, and work on it at my leisure offline, outside of Misplaced Pages space. This not only avoids edit conflicts, but also avoids the risk that a hiccup in your browser, your internet connection, Misplaced Pages's servers or something else will spoil your work. Then once you've got everything done, copy everything out of your text editor, go back to the edit window in Misplaced Pages, replace all the old text with your edited text, hit "Preview", make whatever changes, and you're all set. I find this method helps me cut down on the number of sequential edits I make in cases where an article is still on the uphill side of the development curve. The only caution is that if you use Microsoft Word, turn off it's "helpful" (yuck) automatic formatting that replaces straight quotes with curly ones and so on, and save and work on the document as plain text rather than MS Word format. —Scheinwerfermann ·C03:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

- The fix is simple: Hit Edit on the article in question, select all text in the edit window, create a new subpage on your userpage (e.g., User:Vegavairbob/Economy car, dump the text there, and edit it for hours or days at a time, at your leisure. Once you've made all the edits you intend to make for any given time period — please try a whole day as a starting interval — then go ahead and update the actual article text all in one edit, being careful to check first for any worthwhile edits by others and incorporate them with your own contributions, still as part of the one edit. This really is the best way to do it on an article that needs a lot of work and on which relatively few people are editing, such as Economy car. It does not work well on an article on which many people are editing at a rapid pace, for then it grows too difficult to incorporate your consolidated edits with those of others.

Sunbird formatting reply
I certainly don't know of any policy against or discouraging lining up content with infoboxes. It puts the infoboxes next to the relevant material and also improves the formatting of some images (as it did in the Sunbird case). It's possible that your edit was reverted by mistake or because you didn't do it quite right. IFCAR (talk) 15:27, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading images/media to Misplaced Pages! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Misplaced Pages:Moving images to the Commons (you may view previous uploads by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'file' namespace from the drop down box (or see ). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Would you be interested in joining this project? We need more editors who share a burden for rescuing promising editors who have gotten into serious trouble because of behavioral issues. IF (a fundamental condition!) they are interested in reforming and adapting to our standards of conduct, and are also willing to abide by our policies and guidelines, rather than constantly subverting them, we can offer to help them return to Misplaced Pages as constructive editors. Right now many if not most users who have been banned are still active here, but they are here as socks or anonymous IPs who may or may not be constructive. - Not sure. You could download a new one. Image hasn't been deleted so it might not be necessary. Nice work and beautiful photos!! RegardsVegavairbob (talk) 05:26, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Working Articles
Hi Bob, I got a chance to take a look at the articles you are working on, my schedule has actually been surprisingly busy despite not having any more school work. They look great, obviously vastly improved. My only tips would be to avoid conversational tone in the language. For the most part the articles are fine, but both the Vega and the Bel Air pages contain a couple of sentences that would be more at home in a car magazine rather than an encyclopedia. I would be happy to point out which lines I am referring to or make the changes if you like. Second, the lead paragraphs could all use some expansion. A good lead will hit on all the major points in the article. I noticed someone tried to add something to the lead of the Vega page the other day discussing its current reputation, while the wording might not have been perfect, I do feel that the reliability issues should probably be covered in the first couple of paragraphs, because, frankly this is what the car is currently best known for. What the user added was not vandalism and it really isn't ok to refer to it as such. Otherwise, your work looks excellent, keep it up and let me know if you need any help at all. --Leivick (talk) 01:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
tense
See here http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Automobiles/Archive_10#A_tense_situation , there miht be also other discussions about the question --Typ932 05:50, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi I would use present, but check some of these selected articles how those are written http://en.wikipedia.org/Portal:Cars/Selected_article --Typ932 18:20, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Fastback
I see you reverted to the forced break that I removed. In my browsers (Firefox, Opera, Safari) it leaves too much space ahead of the next section, is inconsistent with the article's other section breaks (which conform to normal WP practice), and therefore upsets the layout of the page. Does it look correct in your browser? Writegeist (talk) 22:11, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I have removed it again (and also the previous, and now similarly redundant, forced break at the end of the previous section) for the reasons already given and restated in the edit summary. You will see in F3 that the breaks between sections are now consistent, and the picture of your car still aligns correctly with the section text. In other words, an improvement. I hope it's agreeable to you. Writegeist (talk) 22:38, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Vega
I went over the intro carefully again today and made a change to a sentence for clarity, let me know what you think. I also have a couple of questions that might need to be resolved before going to GA. First, the first sentence says the car was introduced on September 10th. I think "introduced" is a little vague for a car. Was this the first time the vehicle was shown in a motor show, was it the first time a press release was issued, or was it the day the vehicle went on sale? The other thing I noticed was the use of phrasing like "Vega had an aluminum engine" this seems a little to familiar as opposed to "the Vega had an aluminum engine." This is out of step with most other automotive articles. Let me know what you think. You can respond here and I will see the change on my watchlist, so we can keep the conversation in one place. --Leivick (talk) 19:18, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- The poor perception was of the car, not just one aspect of the car. I considered using reliability but initially the reliability of the car (within the Chevy line) was rated second only to Nova. I left that out of the article but I have a reference to that affect from Popular mechanics in 1973. The car and its engine was reliable until an overheating situation causing damage, but this might have happened only once, if at all. I initially left it a general poor perception but if something must be chosen the car's quality was in question as mentioned in Problems. I added that and shortened both sentences for a better flow. Hope you don't mind change...check it out. Car was introduced to the public (not by name) two years earlier, as stated in DeLorean section, as GM's small car coming in two years. Introduction here is on sale date. I revised intro date with this specfic info. I like the car referred to as Vega instead of the Vega...what do you think? Chevrolet videos refer to it as Vega. I would think because it just sounds better. ex. Vega is the car's name. The car is named Vega. sentences need "the" for "the car" not for the car's name. An example when "the" must be used. The 1973 Vega had 300 changes. Articles I have edited all are without "the" before car's name except for intro which also need the. one more comparison The Chevrolet Vega is the subject of this article.(needed) Vega revieved many awards (not needed) Vegavairbob (talk) 02:25, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- I took a further stab at the sentences in question based on what you modified. I think it looks ok. The first sentence still seems a little awkward to me, but it is now much clearer as to what "introduced" means. I also removed a sentence from the lead which I felt was redundant, regarding the end of the line for the Vega, seeing as the next sentence begins with how the Vega was discontinued, I don't feel it was needed and in my opinion, the fewer words the better as long as all the information is present and understandable. I'm not sure about the Vega vs. the Vega issue. Honestly if it is just a taste issue, I'm fine with whatever you want as you built the article from the ground up, however it might be a style issue with a right or wrong answer, in which case we should go with the right answer rather than the one that we like. Not using the article "the" isn't something I have seen in automotive literature, but I don't read too much on domestics, is it used in something like Collectible Automobile? Maybe some more opinions would be useful. I'm going to have another go at fine tuning the article tonight and maybe a little tomorrow morning. If you don't like the changes, feel free to revert them in whole or in part. I do think we should nominate for GA in the next week or so, and then move on to FA, I think it would be great to see this article was featured on the main page. --Leivick (talk) 05:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- I redid the intro. I think its about perfect. Vega's sales peak is mentioned beforehand to keep it balanced. Your edit and Vega's status today remains un-changed in closing sentence and used your "Detroit automakers" for clarity. I know this is an important area in the car's history. I appreciate your care and patience and am flattered you're concerned with my wishes for the article. Thanks! Vegavairbob (talk) 05:46, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- The issue of tense in vehicles out of production is in an on-going discussion going back a year. It was suggested that tense remain present since the vehicles still exist (to some degree), however much of the text is past as well. The issue in the dicussion is should all of text be past tense. The discussion suggests no. Present tense can be used where proper. As written my original version was present tense, then I switched it to past as recommended by Seiser (Vega talk) then switched it back to present after Typ932 intro edit back to present (The Chevrolet Vega is an automobile...) and discussion was brought to my attention from him (see Tense above here in my talk) Examples follow of the article's final edit's tense as per discussion. example 1- present tense is used- "Vega has neutral steering" instead of- "Vega had neutral steering" (when describing a feature of the car) example 2- past is retained when required- The Vega hatchback was the most popular body-style. (past used when it is about something that pertained to the car while it was in production) Whew!Vegavairbob (talk) 06:17, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

L4
Ill bet those people who dont anything about cars dont know what L4 is , its not even mentioned in Straight-four engine article. If its name for engine its different thing but then you should write something like Duke 150 CID L4 (2,3L straight-4 engine).
- Ok I-4 then (inline-4) is proper, and your right L-4 is generically not used as much.Vegavairbob (talk) 18:43, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- All text was written with (ex.) 2.3 liter inline-4. only captions were L-4 (which is the same as I-4). I switched the captions to I-4 which should be easily identified with "inline-4" used in all of the text. (I-4 is only used in captions). straight-4 was never, past or present, used to identify this engine. Straight-4 engine is rarely used for any vehicle, Article name should be changed to Inline-four engine and in text sometimes referred to as Straight-four. (article says sometimes referred to as inline-4) Vegavairbob (talk) 22:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Please do not assume ownership of articles such as Chevrolet Vega. If you aren't willing to allow your contributions to be edited extensively or be redistributed by others, please do not submit them. Thank you. Please carefully keep in mind that articles here are neither mine nor yours. They belong to the community, and every editor has an equal right and opportunity to improve any article. Edits that progressively clarify and improve articles are the name of the game, no matter what they may do to a previous editor's stylistic idiosyncrasies. It is inappropriate for you to order other editors to stop changing your work, and it is likewise inappropriate for you to attempt to dictate what edits other editors may make to "your" articles. Scheinwerfermann (talk) 03:24, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the lesson. If it helps the article earn FL why would I change your corrective edits? but if you aren't contributing to this article's content you should keep your edits corrective, and buy the way, you don't own the articles either. It requires more work to write the article and provide the images than tweak it in fifteen minutes switching words to ones that you prefer, so have a little consideration for your fellow editors that actually provide the content. Your extensive knowledge, edits, and conversions are valuable and much appreciated. Thanks. Vegavairbob (talk) 06:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

multiple edits
Hi! I noticed that your edits tend to come as blocks of multiple edits within a short time span. This makes it awkward to compare what has changed in the history. You can use the 'Show preview' button to see what your changes look like without committing them immediately, and then use 'Save page' once you are happy with your changes. For myself, I use 'Show preview' many times during edits and always as a double check of my work before I hit the 'Save page' button. Cheers. Stepho-wrs (talk) 23:39, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I know
Yes I know him, we have here certain persons....his also in my old talk archives... Dont wanna discuss with him anything --Typ932 06:10, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Vega, I also have had run-ins with "that editor" and his cabal; just to let you know you are not alone and I have been paying attention to your situation. He may have one or two valid points, but "that editor" doesn't seem to know what decorum and civility are once his agenda kicks in. Remember, with as much work as you've put into your contributions, if the information gets deleted, you still know the information, and deleting it doesn't invalidate what you know.(Regushee (talk) 15:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC))
- He doesn't delete anything. He just tweaks it his way as if your choice of words or adjectives aren't good enough. We're not even talking about a sentence restructure, just annoying stuff, nothing worthwhile. He'd rather spend the bulk of his time lecturing people on everything he knows and takes up whole pages explaining... It doesn't end, ever. If you confront him on it it goes to the "board". I wouldn't let him delete anything anyway unless it was incorrect and he does point out what is wrong, but the problem is he changes what is not wrong just to put a hand on it and knows he has the right to do it, and does it on a whim. The only saving grace is he knows everything regarding the site and its policies to the "T". I've given him credit... even a barnstar for it. Oh I forgot, We are not allowed to talk about contributors, only articles, RegardsVegavairbob (talk) 16:48, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

"Vega" vs "The/the Vega"
You might want to go through the Vega article and change to the latter style if it's not already done so. It scans much better in English. Omitting it makes it sound like you are referring to Vega from Street Fighter instead. Exxolon (talk) 17:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks I did that but in sentences like Vega's engine is.....sounds better than The Vega's engine is. plus it adds a little variety instead of the vega, the vega repeated the same way every sentence. (but i always use the when) The Vega has a nice .... instead of Vega has a nice....Vegavairbob (talk) 18:07, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Checking in
Hi Bob, sorry I haven't been around much in the past few days. It does look like things have been escalating a little lately, but it appears you have largely managed to keep your cool. I wrote a rather long (for me) thread at ANI regarding what has been going on, I hope you get a chance to read it. I wont reiterate what I said there, accept to say that assuming good faith is the best solution and to ask that you thoughtfully consider what is written at WP:OWN. --Leivick (talk) 21:25, 1 July 2009 (UTC
- I have pretty much had enough. I can't find your post.Vegavairbob (talk) 23:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- My comment is the second one in the "update" subsection. --Leivick (talk) 01:40, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
