This guideline is a part of the English Misplaced Pages's Manual of Style. It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though occasional exceptions may apply. Any substantive edit to this page should reflect consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page.

Shortcuts WP:CHARTS WP:MUSIC/TABLE WP:MUSIC/CHARTS

This page gives some guidelines for using and displaying record chart information in music-related articles. The chart positions should be organized into one table, and the table should be formatted using class="wikitable sortable".

Billboard component charts should not be used in the tables, unless the song fails to enter the main chart, but appears on an airplay or sales chart. Charts pertaining to only one specific retailer (such as iTunes, Amazon.com or Wal-Mart) should not be used. In addition, unofficial charts from countdown shows (such as MTV's TRL or BET's 106 & Park) should not be used as they are not derived from verifiable sales and/or airplay totals.

Within the table, no peak positions should be boldfaced, as this violates Misplaced Pages's policy regarding neutral point of view and breaches WP:MOSBOLD. Weeks spent at peak position should be mentioned within the article text and not inserted into the table.

The specific charts included should change depending upon the genre of the song. For hip hop music, the dance chart should be replaced with Hot Rap Tracks. For an R&B ballad, the dance chart should be replaced with the adult contemporary chart. For rock music, both the R&B and dance charts should be replaced with Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and Hot Alternative Tracks. The number of charts should include no more than ten official national charts, and up to ten additional or secondary charts, but no more than eighteen charts total.

Albums and singles which appear on different charts during different years are formatted with the charts for the most recent year furthest down the table:

References should always be individual, and next to each figure that is sourced. Sources per row, column, or table are insufficient.

Chart trajectories

A song/album's chart trajectory should not be included in an article, even if it is verifiable. Including the chart trajectory constitutes an indiscriminate collection of information. Chart trajectories should instead be briefly described in the text of the article or in a table for charts.

Deprecated charts

• WP:BADCHARTS

This is a list of charts which should not be included in Misplaced Pages articles. These charts are single vendor charts or from countdown shows, or have, through a community discussion, been deemed unreliable and unsuitable for inclusion.

• Brazil Hot 100/Hot100Brasil: This chart's article was deleted by deletion discussion as a non-notable chart with dubious methodology.

• Brazilian Singles Chart from allcharts.org is a mirror of Brazil Hot 100's "Hot 100 Songs and Tracks".

• Bulgarian National Top 40: This chart's article was deleted by deletion discussion as a non-notable chart with dubious methodology.

Media Forest, the compiler of both the Romanian Top 100 and the Airplay 100, also weekly publishes split radio and television airplay charts on their website, which can be used as further charts (see this, this and this) alongside the Romanian Top 100, Airplay 100, charts published by Uniunea Producătorilor de Fonograme din România (UPFR). UPFR had briefly published airplay charts from 2008 to 2011, which may be used if the Romanian Top 100 lacks archives, and resumed the publication of charts in November 2021 (archives can be found here). Is there no other chart available for a specific date, then the Media Forest charts should be used as the main ones. In February 2022, Billboard inaugurated Romania Songs, a chart documenting the streaming and digital download activity in Romania; this ranking can be used interchangeably with the UPFR charts (archives for Romania Songs can be found here).

Many countries have a digital songs chart compiled by Nielsen SoundScan International and published in Billboard Magazine in the Hits of the World page.
