Other neat portal ideas for longer term
- Longer term ideas to think about from other portals:
- Events section, like: "On this day" e.g., Biography, Religion, United States; "Selected anniversaries" e.g., War; "Calendar" at Holidays. Interesting idea of "Month selected anniversaries", at Oregon.
- Model intro with some rotating images, after Portal:Oregon, Portal:Indiana, Portal:Iceland/Intro and Portal:Philosophy of science/Intro.
- Revamp DYK sections w/ free-use images, model after Portal:Criminal justice and Portal:Oregon.
- Portal palettes at User:RichardF/Palettes/Portals. Comparable color schemes can be developed from the various hue lists at User:RichardF/Palettes. Also see Portal:Box-header.
- If there are a lot of categories, then categories section to 2 columns, like in Portal:Indiana.
- Also take some time to check out style/formatting at Portal:Indiana Cirt (talk)

Dispatch
Cirt, Awadewit suggested that you might be interested in writing a Signpost Dispatch article on Featured portals (the only area of featured content we haven't covered). Sample previous articles are at {{FCDW}}. We've covered:
- Featured content overview
- Peer review
- Did you know
- Featured lists
- Good articles
- Featured sounds
- Featured topics
- Images
- TFA
- And Featured articles many times: Misplaced Pages:Misplaced Pages Signpost/2008-07-21/Dispatches, Misplaced Pages:Misplaced Pages Signpost/2008-04-07/Dispatches, Misplaced Pages:Misplaced Pages Signpost/2008-10-13/Dispatches
None of them start out looking like that: if an editor initially just chunks in some text, many others chip in to tweak it up to Signpost standards. For example, someone wrote this, which Karanacs, Royalbroil and I turned into this, so if you just chunk in some text as a start, others can help finish it off. Another example, I put in this outline, and Karanacs brought it up to this. Other editors have written almost complete and clean Dispatches without much need for other editing. If you're interested, please weigh in and coordinate at WT:FCDW In case you're interested, you could just begin sandboxing something at WP:FCDW/Portals and pop over to WT:FCDW to leave a note when you're ready for others to help out. Razzies progress
- 15th Golden Raspberry Awards through 29th Golden Raspberry Awards = reformatting process done.
- Note: Going to have to go back and model these after the modifications made subsequently to 29th Golden Raspberry Awards.
- 29th Golden Raspberry Awards - so far only one expanded with sourcing research. (WP:FL)
- Razzie Award for Worst New Star = reformatting process done, next to use Talk:Razzie Award for Worst Picture as model to reformat other pages in Category:Golden Raspberry Awards by category (with subsection breaks by decade)
Work in progress - Van Morrison
Much of the music Morrison released throughout the 1980s continued to focus on the themes of spirituality and faith. His 1983 album, Inarticulate Speech of the Heart was "a move towards creating music for meditation" with synthesisers, uilleann pipes and flute sounds and four of the tracks were instrumentals. Van Morrison is a former Scientologist; during the 1980s he dedicated an album to the organization's founder L. Ron Hubbard. Van Morrison was recruited into Scientology by Scientologist and musician Nicky Hopkins. Friends of Van Morrison's within his musical circle that were also into Scientology included Mark Isham and Robin Williamson. Van Morrison's album Beautiful Vision was influenced by Scientology, and his next album Inarticulate Speech of the Heart (1983) included a "special thanks" credit given to L. Ron Hubbard. After Scientology, Van Morrison moved on to "a broadly Christian faith". He titled his 1986 album No Guru No Method as an attempt to distance himself from Scientology. In a review of Van Morrison's musical work in The Times, journalist Pete Paphides described his album No Guru, No Method, No Teacher as "the 1986 album that found Morrison adrift from God, wounded by his dalliance with Scientology, wrestling the mother of spiritual hangovers and deciding that only the compass of memory could help a lost soul to redemption". Van Morrison's exploration of spirituality, including Jehovah's Witness, Christianity, mysticism, and Scientology, served as an influence for his works including Astral Weeks, "Kingdom Hall", Enlightenment and "Whenever God Shines His Light". In 1991, Van Morrison explained his period of spirituality and self-reflection, commenting: "I'm into all of it, orthodox or otherwise. I don't accept or reject any of it. I'm not searching for anything in particular, I'm just groping in the dark for a bit more light." In 1995, when asked by the University of Ulster to list his favorite philosophers, Van Morrison included Aristotle, Socrates, Sartre, Steiner – as well as L. Ron Hubbard. In 2009, the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper St. Petersburg Times listed Van Morrison among "Former Scientologists".
Correction: Shop.Com deletion
Cirt, You seem to be referring to Shop.com, which is different than Shop.Com (note capital "C" in com). That entry says it was deleted by you on September 29 at 5:39. Could you please take a look at the Shop.Com entry again?
Bpops721 (talk) 16:21, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Shop.Com was quite clear. Cirt (talk) 20:27, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Cirt, Thanks for your speedy response. Can you share any insight as to why Shop.Com does not meet your standards for notability? To be candid, with so many of its less notable competitors having entries - some of considerable length - the deletion seems arbitrary. And, it would help us understand your process for future entries. Bpops721 (talk) 21:34, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid argument here. Cirt (talk) 04:21, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Can you share any insight as to why Shop.Com does not meet your standards for notability? Do you see any valid points that we can possibly build on? Bpops721 (talk) 13:24, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest working on a draft version in your userspace. Cirt (talk) 17:00, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi Cirt, Per your request, I've put a draft version of the SHOP.COM entry on my user page. Can you please review it at your convenience and provide feedback? Thank you. Bpops721 (talk) 18:34, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- That has no sources. Cirt (talk) 00:13, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I've added nine sources to the SHOP.COM entry on my user page. Can you please review again? Thanks. Bpops721 (talk) 18:20, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Cirt, to be clear, the references I added are not press releases. They are news articles from legitimate third party sources, including Time magazine, Real Simple, DM News, CNET and Internet Retailer. Bpops721 (talk) 18:45, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Ill-advised block
User talk:Sanjosecalifornia seems like a particularly bad block; there seems little evidence this person needed to be stopped from doing anything. Their username does NOT seem to, in any way, be the type of username which mandates a block without discussion, I don't see where an RFCU or similar attempt was made to establish how the username was bad. Could you please help set my mind at ease and let me know what this person needed to be stopped from editing? --Jayron32 20:07, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- Okay I just went to go unblock the user myself, but I see this was already done (with no objections). :) Cirt (talk) 21:08, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- All good man; we all make bad blocks from time to time. Keep up the good fight, and carry on. --Jayron32 21:10, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
User talk:1989 Rosie
I don't really think this was a "vandalism-only" account. Many of their edits appear constructive and most of the warnings they got were for edit warring. Mr.Z-man 04:46, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- Unblocked. Cirt (talk) 06:05, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
I was redirected from WP:ANI to here. Simply put, 1989 Rosie refuses to enter dialog or dispute resolution. As far as I can tell he/she was banned for disruptive editing, addition of unsourced content and unexplained formatting changes (which unfortunately ended in an edit war with me) only to be unbanned for wrongful naming of the reason of the ban. From the few lines that where actually typed by 1989 Rosie it't clear that the users English is really poor so maybe he/she just doesn't understand the requests for dialog. Elixon WCMS Deletion
Hello Cirt,
could you, please, throw your eye at Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for deletion/Elixon WCMS/XUL? I was quite busy and I missed the opportunity to discuss the problem before the deletion took a place.
Thank you.

you undid my edit to "Keeping Scientology Working"
i added the following to the article:
Another passage that has been cited by critics of the organisation, especially in relation to cases of death where critics see connections to the organisation, reads: "The proper instruction attitude is, "You're here so you're a Scientologist. Now we're going to make you into an expert auditor no matter what happens. We'd rather have you dead than incapable.""
you undid my edit, claiming that it is unsourced. this is not true, as i am quoting directly from the sourced document that is called "Keeping Scientology Working". You may edit what i wrote, but the quote needs to stay in the article, because the quote is well-known and cited by critics all the time, especially the part about "We'd rather have you dead than incapable." A google search for this string reveals how often it has been cited.
I also think that it is rude for you to undo my edit without giving any valid reasons, because as i said, it is well sourced. On citizendium, behavior like this quickly leads to a lifetime ban. On wikipedia, its normal behavior. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurtilein (talk • contribs) 12:23, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
The problem is, that you should not have reverted any one of my edits. You could have added one of those little notes that say that a citation is needed. I will give you another try to do the right thing. If you censor the information that i want to add to the article AGAIN, then i will consider this to be a clear sign that there will be no agreement here. I hate censorship on the internet, and i hate people that censor. And you would have other options than to censor this information. Kurtilein (talk) 19:50, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Review closure of Bobby Jack Wright
You closed Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Bobby_Jack_Wright as keep. It appears that the article is about a living person of questionable notability. At 2d-4k, this falls in the range of no consensus, which may default to delete. Could you discuss why you chose to keep this article? Thanks! Hipocrite (talk) 13:01, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- The AfD consensus, plus appears to satisfy WP:NOTE, after some research. Could be a WP:GA article at some point with a little effort. :) Cirt (talk) 13:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't mean to pester, but should I assume that your statement is that you feel consensus is that he is not questionably notable, but rather justplainole notable? No insult intended. Hipocrite (talk) 13:05, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Michael Snow (attorney)
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Michael Snow (attorney). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Misplaced Pages:Notability and "What Misplaced Pages is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Michael Snow (attorney). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:16, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
AFD

re Makedonsko Devojče
Hi Cirt, I notice you're were the responsible administrator in the deletion of Makedonsko Devojče and I would like to recreate this article. The AfD for it doesn't really look that conclusive to me. Only 4 people commented and out of those, only 2-3 said delete. I would guess that the article's content would indeed have generated plenty of edit warring between Bulgarian and Macedonian nationalists, but that isn't a reason to delete it. I have a strong hunch that it is a notable song from the Balkan peninsula and thus should have an article, even if encyclopaedic references are hard to find. Please don't just speedy delete this when I recreate it and give it a chance. Donama (talk) 05:36, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest you create a version in a subpage of your userspace, perhaps at User:Donama/Sandbox. Cirt (talk) 05:37, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- While this is a good solution for those unsure of how Misplaced Pages works, it's not appropriate for this article as it needs other users to contribute and build it -- and that can't happen while the article remains visibly deleted. Donama (talk) 04:52, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- Others can still edit pages in your sandbox/userspace. Cirt (talk) 04:59, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Anon edits from 65.29.104.210
Hi Cirt,
Thanks for leaving the messages with IP editor 65.29.104.210. Unfortunately, the IP continues to add controversial material and edit war, and so far hasn't engaged in discussions. I am going to reach out to him/her with some helpful tips, such as discussing issues and controversial edits on talk pages, using scholarly sources, and WP guidelines on what to include in lead paragraphs. Hopefully, it will be a productive engagement -- but if the editor continues to edit war then I may need admin assistance. Can you help or point me to an admin who can? Thanks in advance. Majoreditor (talk) 22:15, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- Probably a report to WP:AIV or WP:ANI would be best in that case. Cirt (talk) 04:03, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
The Cherrytree Sessions (Lady Gaga EP)
Would you mind restoring this page? It appears to have been tacked onto Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Hitmixes and referred to as a non-notable EP, when it was released internationally through iTunes, Amazon MP3, and Borders, giving it some notability.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 00:46, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Has the album itself been the subject of significant coverage in independent reliable secondary sources? Cirt (talk) 04:02, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Appears to have been mentioned here and here. I'm sure there also a few other similar sources in here.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 06:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Mentions, but not significant discussion. Perhaps you could writeup a version in a subpage of your userspace? Cirt (talk) 06:57, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- The first link is a mention. The second is a review. And I really don't care that much to make a subpage.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 07:03, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Okay well that's understandable, but that would be what I would suggest. Cirt (talk) 07:09, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Question on when to report to UAA vs AIV
Cirt -- Hi. I am trying to get more involved and was looking at the Whoismarty Sockpuppet investigation and am trying to understand how things operate. I saw that you reported the user under Usernames for administrator attention. I would have reported them under Administrator intervention against vandalism due to the repeated addition of biased content. What made WP:UAA the place to report this user? Thanks for any insight you can offer. --Igoldste (talk) 16:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Either would have been appropriate, as the username was associated with the domain name of the website they were promoting, but you are probably right that AIV would have been better. Cirt (talk) 18:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. --Igoldste (talk) 20:05, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Reply to issue of conflict of interest
I do not have a conflict of interest at all, last fall i was researching various countercultures within american society and found them quite an interesting group considering they got their start not five blocks from my dorm room. So no i am not a cult member trying to white wash criticism, in fact i have suggested adding criticism of the group in a complete restructuring of the article. http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Twelve_Tribes_(New_religious_movement)#Proposing_outline_for_restructured_article Weaponbb7 (talk) 20:31, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the header, we are currently working on sourcing stuff or deleting parts entirely but as our discussions on talk-page reveal its rather hard to find a neutral source on them Susan J Palmer is the only academic on them and the Media gets even more complicated. More problem Unification Church articles
Hi Cirt. I just ran into Black Heung Jin Nim and Heung Jin Nim. They have been tagged as problem articles since March. I'm not sure if I should AfD them or not. What do you think? Northwestgnome (talk) 01:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's always a good way to gauge community consensus. :) Cirt (talk) 01:42, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Request: deleted article Goresleeps
Greetings. I notice that you recently deleted the article Goresleeps, which surprised me a little since only one further vote ("per nom", adding nothing new to the discussion) had been made since the AfD was relisted to allow more time for consensus to form. As was mentioned in the AfD discussion, this band released two albums with a fairly major independent Russian record label, which should indicate notability as per WP:BAND. Goresleeps has also been the subject of non-trivial coverage in a Belarussian music newspaper which appears to be reliable source and wasn't hard to find: both articles are linked from the Russian Misplaced Pages article on Goresleeps. The band has also had reviews on various other music websites. I feel concerned that we may be losing too many articles on notable foreign topics because of language barriers involved in sourcing rather than because the articles should not exist at all. However I am aware that this article had several issues (dodgy translation among them) and is in need of improvement. Unfortunately I don't speak Russian, so I would like the article to be publicly accessible to allow other editors to work on it.
I therefore request that this article be moved to the WP: Article Incubator where it may be improved to meet Misplaced Pages's quality standards. Incubated articles are noindexed so won't show up in Google searches until they (possibly) "graduate" back to main article space. Contains Mild Peril (talk) 03:24, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello and thank you!
Hello Cirt. Thank you very much for placing a block on the vandal at IP 153.2.247.30. Unfortunately, that only solves a third of the problem, as the same user has been making the same vandalism edit from two other IPs as stated in my reports. The other IPs are 166.137.7.40 and most recently 166.137.6.62. I'm fairly certain one of these IPs or possibly another new one will be making the same edit again tomorrow if not actioned. Is this possible? Many thanks. 76.89.161.88 (talk) 07:52, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Feel free to report again to WP:AIV at that time. Cirt (talk) 07:58, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Request for userfication
Hello, Cirt. Further to this discussion and a message I have received on my talk page, please could you userfy the deleted article WorkTime to Rirunmot?

Help?
Hi there, I was wondering if you could explain why you removed Jediism from the list of new religious movements, as I did add secondary references as you requested.
Many thanks, Kai Tatsu (talk) 00:26, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- None of the sources you cited identify Jedism as a "new religious movement". Cirt (talk) 00:28, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your recent changes!
