According to multiple reports, sometime around ] William "Cerberius" Erwin, a member of the Methlabs team, locked the rest of the development team out of the their computers. Erwin was in charge of the finances as well as the Methlabs ]s, which were registered to him. Phoenix Labs (formerly Methlabs) is a software developing community founded by Tim Leonard and Ken McKelland, best known for their open-source firewall product PeerGuardian. Other software they produce includes DeepDelete, and the XS file sharing hub and client.
History
The group originally organized to work on PeerGuardian, a program Leonard created in 2003 in response to the shutdown of the Audiogalaxy file sharing site. The name Methlabs came from Leonard's handle, 'method'. In September 2005 an internal dispute led to it being renamed Phoenix Labs.

PeerGuardian

PeerGuardian and PeerGuardian 2 are free and open source programs developed capable of blocking incoming and outgoing connections based on IP blocklists. Their purpose is to block several organizations, including the RIAA and MPAA while using filesharing networks such as FastTrack and BitTorrent. The system is also capable of blocking advertising, spyware, government and educational ranges, depending upon user preferences.
Blocklist.org
Blocklist.org is a website designed in late 2004 to allow users to interactively manage and block the IP addresses of certain organisations and companies. It is intended to be a platform agnostic database that utilizes published open formats.
DeepDelete
DeepDelete was designed to erase computer files securely, making them extremely difficult to recover.
