I have many interests in social and physical sciences as well as applicable engineering practices and law (in particular criminal, intellectual, family and international law.) I was initially drawn to editing WP to address what I viewed as some critical deficiencies in its coverage of international law topics surrounding international child abduction for which I have a deep personal interest in addition to an abounding academic curiosity. Being an avid supporter of self-organizing systems, online communities and collaborative computing and, having become familiar with WP syntax, protocols and, generally speaking, WP policies, I look forward to branching out into a wide variety of other topics. |

Of late I've become increasingly convinced of the importance of editors clarifying their biases (and it is foolish to think that we don't all have them even if some of us work harder than others to avoid blatantly pushing them.) I attribute this belief to my recent excursions into some of the Misplaced Pages's more controversial articles, in particular starting with articles related to family law and then moving into articles on gender issues like ], ], ], ] and the articles of authors who opine on those issues such as ], ] and (fruitcakes like) ]. |

So here's my list of bias (not exhaustive by any means but relevant to my current edits): |

- I am a ] to a ]<br/> |

- I was raised by a single ] mother and never questioned my alleged ] or the supposed inequality that modern women struggled against until I was forced to come face to face with the brutal reality that women are, at least sometimes, more than equal -- much more. A harsh lesson I learned in the context of what might be euphemistically referred to as an ] or ]. Now days I don't discount the world my mother grew up in or the validity of the opinions she formed in that place and time though I do tell her that it's a ] and that going around saying the things she used to say makes her look like a ] who has just wandered out of the jungles of Vietnam and doesn't realize that the ''war'' is long over or that the objectives have been overwhelming achieved. And now, with a whole industry of academics and activists that have few or no other marketable skills or purpose other than to preach the cause and decry the ] we've gone far beyond seeking ostensible equality (and truth be told things were never as unequal as we were lead to believe in the first place.) Like most any force that has achieved victory the foot soldiers are loath to lay down their arms and their ideological generals in the their academic ivory towers are unwilling to admit their declining relevance (barring some extraordinary exceptions.) Cognitive dissonance, pure self-interest, or simple desire for some sort of payback appears to me to be the driving force now days more than any actually legitimate complaints (particularly w/ regard to equality.) |
