Solar ring seen around the Moon at the midpoint of an annular solar eclipse. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes across the Sun as seen from Earth. This only occurs at New Moon, and is most commonly a partial eclipse. When the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun and is close to the Earth, a total solar eclipse takes place, revealing the Sun's corona. When the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, an annular solar eclipse occurs and the corona remains hidden by brightness of the visible solar ring. Photographed on 3 October 2005, near Madrid, Spain.

I don't think it's incivil to treat election candidates to tough questioning. It is the usual test of public life. it's someone's job to point that out."'' 01/12/2007

First contact during an annular solar eclipse. The Moon (upper left) is beginning to move in front of the Sun. This process takes several hours, and may result in a partial, full or annular eclipse. In this case, the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, and this was an annular eclipse. Photographed at 08:00 on 3 October 2005, in Tunisia. Philosophy
- Lead by example.
- Always be civil - especially to people who are uncivil.
- Never edit when angry.
- Always take the time to explain things.
- Don't use lack of time as an excuse - if you don't have time to do something well, leave it for someone else to do.
Partly inspired by this mess.
