Good evening. This user has requested the undeletion of his/her user page on ]. I would be interested in your understanding of this question. I would also like to know why you felt it necessary to protect the page as a deleted page. That's a step generally reserved for cases of egregious and repeated re-creation. The edit history doesn't seem to show that abusive a pattern of recreation. Thanks. ] <small>]</small> 05:45, 26 February 2006 (UTC) |

Second, you may want to archive this talk page, for it is getting huge.

"The Wiki Way" and similar proposals
I just wanted to compliment you on keeping an eye on this topic, while at the same time keeping your cool. My feeling is that Xiong is looking to engender heated responses, and it is a benefit to us all for him not simply to be rebuffed (when he's wrong and is seeking confrontation, rather than consensus), but for him to be rebuffed calmly, in the spirit of consensus, and without aggression. Thanks again. Nandesuka 12:09, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi Cesar, I saw you'd deleted the above user page again, which I recently restored. Can you say what your reason was for deleting the page even though the user account is in use? I'm a little suspicious of the account because of previous allegations of sockpuppetry, as well as some strange editing, and if the user is requesting deletion of the user page, yet continues to edit, my suspicions increase. Page Protection Request
Posted here because it was DELETED from the Page Protection page. You won't even listen to my case, will you?
Would you PLEASE either protect or remove your entry on Ashida Kim so that internet trolls cannot keep going there to post the names of my friends so they can be attacked like abortion clinic doctors, several of whom were KILLED after their names were posted on the internet. I have asked nicely as many times as I can of as many administraptrs as I can contact, but no one ever does anything except ignore me and delete my posts because you love to use my fame to draw people to your silly site. How would you like it if I posted your address so punks could come take a poke at you? Isn't that why YOU hide behind all this proceure that makes it impossible to contact anyone and impossible to get any reply from so called administrators like yourself?
Ashida Kim
Ashida, the article as it stands now seems fair. I have looked through the history of your page and while there has been some vandalism, it's not been enough to warrant a page protection. Vandalism has been reverted five times in the past two months. You can deal with that level of vandalism yourself. It's unfortunate that someone would want to vandalize your page -- or any page for that matter -- but the amount of vandalism currently occurring is not enough to justify protecting the page, which is an extreme measure taken only to prevent very frequent and extensively disruptive vandalism or edit warring. · Katefan0(scribble) 21:51, 15 September 2005 (UTC) No Help At All Kate, what you are telling me is that I must now come here and monitor this entry every day to see if it is being vandalized. And if it is I must go through this same silly procedure to get it back to what it is now. A tremendous waste of time which serves the purpose of the trolls perfectly. You say I can deal with the vandalism myself? Not so. I am not an administrator. I had an account with you last time this happened, but you closed it down. To me you are just passing the buck and ducking the issue AGAIN! When you let these trolls publish the names of my friends, their lives are placed in danger. In my first post on this issue I quoted you a line where they bragged about videotaping some of my friends at their homes. That is STALKING! I don't know why you don't think that rises to the level of warranting you to click one icon and save a human life instead of clinging to some ridiculous procedure where a page must be vandalized a thousand times in a single week before you will do anything. Next, I can't for the life of me understand why you won't discuss this privately instead of making me repeat it all in public a hundred times. More silly procedure. Your rationale for not protecting this page, and the page itself with the names on it, have all been shown to the local authorities who assure me that if any of my friends have to set the dogs on any of the punks who creep up on them, that you can be held criminally liable for publishing the addresses. Seems to me any sane person would want to protect themselves from such an embarassment, and possible even prevent it with a single click of the mouse. Rather than continue to act like a lame lawyer who thinks the splitting hairs means anything to criminals. I deeply resent having to come here and embarrass you again and again. That alone should show you the wisdom of just doing the right thing. There can be only one reason why you refuse to make this simple accomodation- BECAUSE USING MY NAME BRINGS PEOPLE TO YOUR SITE, even if it puts me and my friends in jeopardy. That's is pretty sad, Kate. There is no reason that anyone else would keep up a webpage that the subject of has repeated asked be taken down. And, as I have shown with good reason. If one of my friends gets killed in his sleep by some pumped-up, steroid-raging UFC wannabee, worse yet, if one of my friends has to kill one of these punks, I hope you can live with yourself.
Ashida Kim
- I'm sorry, but I cannot protect a page unless I'm following the Protection policy, and I cannot delete a page unless I'm following the Deletion policy. If I were to protect or delete the article without a valid reason based on these policies, it would quickly be reverted by other administrators, who can not only unprotect an article, but also undelete it. If, however, there is personal information on the article's history, the specific revisions with the offending information can sometimes be removed from the page history (you would need to tell an administrator which specific revisions need to be removed; you can do so by copying the links to the revisions from the page history). --cesarb 00:33, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
- As an aside: I checked your account on the block log, where it would show if it had been blocked; it's never been blocked. You probably got hit by a block intended to someone else (it happens quite often to AOL users, for technical reasons). If you are able to post here, you probably can use your account. --cesarb 00:43, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

CesarB,
Thanks for supporting my RfA. I'll work hard to try to live up to the confidence you're showing in me. It's easy to treat Misplaced Pages as a game or a soapbox, but I don't treat it as either. One of the things I respect about you is that when I read your writing, it's clear that you don't think of it that way either. I'll continue down that path. Nandesuka 01:02, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Bd777 block lifted, and personal attacks resume
Just thought you'd like to know that BD is responding to the lifting of his temp block with renewed personal attacks :
- "Well, I have no desire to brawl with anybody but Ryan's actions are so despicable I just don't want her anywhere near my talk page. She bully's people into accepting her twisted look at the world and when she runs into someone who's stronger (like me), she just tries to game the system to have them removed. I hope she doesn't think people are unaware of EXACTLY how she operates and that it's doomed for failuure.. Her ways are transparently obvious to intelligent people and spelled out in explicit fashion in my post below. In the end, people like that ultimately self-destruct because their motives are so fraught with hostility for others. And even for someone who's actions are as deplorable as Ryan's...it's kind of sad, isn't it?" Big Daddy 04:41, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
- "But I forgive you man. You're an honest and decent person who, like me, only wants to remove the endemic POV from Misplaced Pages. But seriously equivocating someone who behaves as contemptably as Ryan with me??? That makes that vicious slime attack that guterrda spewed when he suggested the '777' in my name stood for white power, seem charitable by comparison." Big Daddy 13:15, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

Annoying block...
Hey, on User:Grutness's talk page you posted the following comment:
I made a (completely untested) patch to MediaWiki which adds the flag I described above. If you manage to convince the developers to include this patch or something similar, and convince a bureaucrat to add the flag to your account, your problems with being blocked when your IP address is blocked should end. --cesarb 03:30, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Page protection of Misplaced Pages:Copyrights
Hi. I notice that you were the last person to edit Misplaced Pages:Copyrights before it was protected. Any idea who protected it or why? How to get it unprotected? I ask because I am the second person to ask (on the Talk page) for a link from Misplaced Pages:Copyrights to Misplaced Pages:Fair use. The first was back in mid-September, mine yesterday. There has been no response to either. Where does one take a question like this? Why doesn't the Talk page cover the decision to protect the page? Why doesn't the edit history even show the protection going on (and who did it)?
Sorry to lay all this in your lap. I'd be happy to take it elsewhere if I could figure out where to go with it.
TIA, -- Mwanner | Talk 02:17, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- You are mistaken. I was not the last person to edit Misplaced Pages:Copyrights before it was protected.
- I was the last person to edit Misplaced Pages:Copyrights after it was protected.
- That page has been protected for so long it doesn't even show in the current protection log (which AFAIK was introduced around 2004). Of course, if you want the rationale for the protection, it is, as expected, at Misplaced Pages:Protected page (listed as permanently protected for legal reasons).
- If you need to change a permanently protected page like that one, the best course of action would be to contact an administrator (or post to the noticeboard). Which is exactly what you did without noticing ☺. I added the link to the "See also" section; I'm wary of touching the text itself.
- --cesarb 03:10, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I did know you were an admin, I just wasn't sure if editing protected pages was among an admin's superpowers. And I was completely unaware of the existance of the Misplaced Pages:Protected page page. BTW, the edit history on the Protected page page goes back to 2003, and WP:Copyrights is there from before that.
- Anyway, thank you for adding the link, and for the answer, above. I think, though, that the link belongs at the end of the first sentence in the Fair use materials and special requirements section, in parens "(See Misplaced Pages:Fair use)". Any advice on how to go about getting it there, other than the obvious Misplaced Pages talk:Copyrights page? I'd put a request there, but I'm not too optimistic. Is there a cabal ;-, at least for legal issues, that one can turn to?
- One other question along these lines-- I can't be the only editor to hit a protected page and wonder what's going on, and what to do about it. Perhaps a template is needed for the top of protected pages, pointing to the list?
- Many thanks, Mwanner | Talk 13:59, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

The sandbox, which you recently protected, is a place for new users to test their editing skills, something that is rather hard to do when they are prevented from editing the page. Hmm, isn't wikipedia policy is supposed to be descriptive. So if a policy page were to say that all wikipedians dance the hula every night at 10:35pm hawaiian time, it might certainly merit a "disputed" tag. :-P

cfd technique
I have been just doing a {{db}} for speedies on categories that are a typo or where is it obviously a naming variation on an existing cat. I may have done some cfd's a month or two ago w/o updating the log, but I got a friendly reminder to do that. Most of my category templating has been driven by Special:Uncategorizedcategories. (This list was almost 1000, but now it is holding steady at about 150 with weekly maintenance). If the cat is not empty, I usually try to find them a parent category, even if they overlap with existing ones, or determine them to be orphans and mark them with db. My recollection is that the only true cfd's I have recently done are about controverial/banned mass media. I am still learning, so maybe I did mess up again. -- Fplay 00:21, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

It is common to delete talk pages when articles are deleted. This makes sense, since the purpose of a talk page is to discuss improvements to an article. If there is no article, there is nothing to discuss. To keep the talk page active is only to circumvent the deletion. Slrubenstein | Talk 18:47, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Why did you delete the External Link to www.rio-online.com???
ck3001
A couple of things II
Once again, I do not think that the website www.rio-online is spam. If rio online is spam www.rioforpartiers, vivabrasil, hy brazil and all pages conataining travel related content and furthermore - sites in Portuguese only are spam and/or not in the right menu. So please keep your hands off from this link! Everybody has the same rights!!! I therefore decided to place the link again on the site "Brazil" at the end. I will not place any other link. If you delete the link again, I will delete all other links containing affiliate marketing tools (including Google adwards) and we will discuss the topic in another forum. Please consider also, how many offices, restaurants, clubs etc. Are recommended in the city and will be affected in a negative way.
Have a nice day Regards, Carsten

Thanks!
I know you did this back in October, but I just want to thank you for finding the list of odd numbers as well as the VfD page for the list on the talk page of Lame Edit Wars. It has been cracking me all afternoon. Hdstubbs 23:33, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Jyllands Posten archival
When you archive this, can you PLEASE leave the image keep vote? It's our ammunition against deletion of the photo, shows there is consensus to keep it. Swatjester 15:11, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for deleting those revisions from my user page. Could I ask you to do the same for my talk page too? Tnikkel 20:58, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Test1
Hello, Cesar. Can you please discuss your objection to Template:Test1 using options here Template talk:Test1 or here Template talk:Test#New_Text_combining_test_and_test-n. Thank you. -- Avi 17:01, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. The multitude of test templates need to be pruned down. What do you suggest then? Also, I would like to poll for more of a consensus on using {{qif}} on talk pages. Personally, I got that from the {{Template:welcome3}} template; which I use regulalry with subst: I presume you fell strongly against that as well? -- Avi 17:08, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
TfD nomination of Template:Test2b
Template:Test2b has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at Misplaced Pages:Templates for deletion#Template:Test2b. Thank you. -- Avi 14:58, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Editing a page while it has been tagged {{inuse}} is not considered vandalism. --cesarb 01:33, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
No, but this was an anon user who may have downgradded the article by including a lie (that she had one daughter not two). That was the main problem. And i thought it was good faith to revert that for the sake of the major refit of the article.
Sorry about this. -Dynamo_ace
Semi-automated template substitution

Semi Update
Hi, what it's susposed to do is to give me a list of all pages with a template without the subst: tag and add the subst, not sure whats happened in your case, i'm trying to figure it out. Thanks for noticing so fast! Tawker 17:14, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Page name for temperature articles
To avoid flip-flopping between 'degree Fahrenheit' and 'Fahrenheit' or 'degree Celsius' and 'Celsius', I propose that we have a discussion on which we want. I see you have contributed on units of measurement, please express your opinion at Talk:Units of measurement. Thanks. bobblewik 23:01, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
{{deletedpage}} and templates
Howdy. Wouldn't it be best to simply leave protected-against-recreation templates blank, so that the {{deletedpage}} notice doesn't get transcluded whereever the template is used? I thought this was the general practice, but I'm probably wrong. android79 17:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- how about simply using <noinclude>{{deletedpage}}</noinclude>? Plugwash 02:01, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- I already said that on his user talk page ☺ (yeah, I know, split discussion). --cesarb 02:07, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your response to the proposal that I submitted to the Village Pump yesterday on how to attract older, experienced conributers. I really appreciated your remarks. mbeychok 19:50, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
brazzilian telephone numbering plan
i see you rewrote the split out article. could you also (if you've not already done so) take a look through my sumarising of the brazil section in the telephone numbering plan article to check i haven't introduced any errors. Plugwash 02:00, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- You didn't introduce any new errors (but there are still some unsourced statements there, which I do not know if are errors or not, and I didn't check the numbers). However, that section could use a rewrite (like the original it spawned from). --cesarb 02:07, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the changes to MediaWiki:Talkpagetext. This may be useful, but I agree needs discussion. xaosflux /CVU 00:59, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Block request
Hi. Could you please block User:158.123.145.5 who is a regular vandal and who is continuing to vandalise Smallpox after a final warning. I posted on AIAV a while ago but there seems to be a backlog there. Cheers TigerShark 14:53, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
brain picking
Hi Cesar,
What's up? I'm hoping to pick that remarkably tech-savvy brain of yours over a couple of issues. :-) I would like to remove all the special characters that precede the ndash and mdash in the javascript insert box. I never use those alphabets. Then, if possible, I'd like to add the tags <ref name=> and </ref> to the box; they're two of the three tags in use in the new cite.php referencing system.
- Is this possible?
- Will it slow down my load times of the edit view? How does that work, BTW—will the whole thing be loaded, and then some things hidden?
- On a related issue, I recently edited my .css file to remove the display of the Misplaced Pages logo in the top left, in the belief that this will speed up page loading for me —but now I'm wondering if I haven't made matters worse. Have I?
Warm wishes ENCEPHALON 16:15, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, Thanks CesarB. I think I'm going to pass on this idea: I don't want WP slowing down anymore than it already has for me (lately). And the flicker issue doesn't sound appealing. Besides, I've just figured out a brilliant way (for a dim low tech chap like myself ;-)) of producing a one click method of placing <ref name=>example reference</ref>, into the box when editing. The latest version of the WP Firefox toolbar allows you to specify a format feature. So if you type <ref name=>SELECTION</ref> under format property you can get your own refname "button". It's especially neat because if you highlight the text of the ref, for example
CesarB. Editing Misplaced Pages. Journal of Wikiness
, with a single click you can produce<ref name=>CesarB. Editing Misplaced Pages. Journal of Wikiness</ref>
. I'm so pleased with me. ;-) And God bless Bananaweizen & Tom Koch. ENCEPHALON 17:21, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

unhelpful
This is unhelpful. The current "Scratchpad" design is terrible, but I just wanted to get things started. I see a lot of value in creating an unobtrusive reminder for people when the edit talk pages (sign your posts, be nice, etc. ). -- Netoholic @ 18:56, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Anon vandal 66.99.49.194
I disagree with your decision not to block this vandal IP, or even warn the user(s) about their vandalism. "Silly vandalism", as you described it, is still harmful to the project, and that IP is a longtime offender with almost no history of constructive edits. The fewer broken windows on the site, the better things will be for constructive editors. -Colin Kimbrell 22:50, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Are you the one who deleted it? In any case, I said that because the person who nominated it for deletion didn't bother to list it at WP:TFD, only tag it. Thats what I essentially wanted to say. Moe ε 02:18, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Confirmation Requested
According to my history page, you deleted by User Page. User:J1838
I wonder if I might ask you some questions about this.
- First, could you confirm that you did delete my user page. There dosn't seem to be any way for me to distinguish between an administrator doing it and a vandal doing it.
- Second, is it normal to delete user pages without leaving any explanation. It seems a bit of an odd practice. Did I miss something ?
- Third, I can't work out why you might have deleted it. As far as I am aware it did not breach any guidline. Please advise.
- Fourth, I'm keen to contest your action within the rules. Again, please advise what I should do.
Many thanks, J1838 19:17, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Questions
I have some questions about you deleting my user page. Not sure whether to do it here or on my discussion page. Have put them on my discussion page for the moment, so, please see User talk:J1838. Many thanks J1838 20:00, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Tony Sidaway/Workshop
I have just done a massive refactoring of Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Tony Sidaway/Workshop, in order to
- remove personal attacks, irrelevant comments, and bickering
- make the page readable and usable for the arbcom, as at its previous size of 183KB, it was not.
As your words appear on that page, I'm letting you know so that you may review the changes. I have tried not to let any bias or POV I may have color my summaries; however, it's a wiki, so if you think I've misrepresented your words, please fix them. re: User:J1838
Good evening. This user has requested the undeletion of his/her user page on WP:DRV. I would be interested in your understanding of this question. I would also like to know why you felt it necessary to protect the page as a deleted page. That's a step generally reserved for cases of egregious and repeated re-creation. The edit history doesn't seem to show that abusive a pattern of recreation. Thanks. Rossami (talk) 05:45, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
