== Success ==

Collaboration is the key to the projects success. However, when we are successful, some argue that it is due to collaboration. The bigger question for me; why have we been successful in obtaining and retaining collaborators? I truly do not know the answer. Only those that work with my students would know why they are compelled to lend a helping hand. If someone would investigate that component of such projects, maybe a guide for teachers could be developed. I don't think the answer is requiring teachers to become Misplaced Pages experts themselves. I'm living proof that is not the case. Thanks, your timing was impeccable. :) --] (]) 04:10, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

FA/GA research

Hi TCO, thanks for sharing the slidedeck with your analysis of GA/FA articles. Two suggestions:

  • it would be useful to add your name or username (so your readers know how to contact you) and a date in the PDF
  • have you considered creating a project page on Meta so other people can easily discover your work?

--DarTar (talk) 17:54, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

I will fix the name and date per your direction.

Will you please create the project page for me? I was confused by the directions (sorry to ask for help). 69.255.27.249 (talk) 17:58, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

No problem, what title should I use? --DarTar (talk) 19:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Whatever you think best. I guess we want whatever works would help a serious researcher know what the topic is. "Underproduction of high quality high importance articles"?TCO (reviews needed) 19:20, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

The hurricane number of FA's was 110, FWIW :/ --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, that was the flippant remark. I actually cut a lot of the TCO-ness in the presentation, but there are still a few things here and there. Peace.69.255.27.249 (talk) 18:54, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Cross posting

Hi TCO & welcome back. I'm cross-posting my response from the FAC talkpage. A lot I agree with and have discussed elsewhere with others. I can find diffs if you want. But think about adding the two points below because I think they're important:

From FAC talkpage:

I'm with Maria on this. I was a little taken back to myself dubbed a "battleship" & thought, "huh, I don't write about battleships". Two things you missed: one is burn out. A year and a half after promotion I'm still fighting on the Ernest Hemingway talkpage - take a look at it, and the talk page for the Ernest Hemingway template (I'm purposely not linking). I brought Ezra Pound to FAC and it didn't go well, big page, hard to balance, but the biggest problem was that I had to bail because of an unexpected side-effect after routine eye-surgery (a four month migraine!) This brings me to the second point: Olivia Shakespear was an off-shoot of Ezra and I really never expected to bring it to FAC. Not important enough I thought. But here's the thing, aside from sleeping with Yeats as your summary says, she supported (financially) many modernist writers and artists - single handedly. So she's much more important in that respect as far as I'm concerned, but more important is that page is probably the best on the internet about her. The same with Edmund Evans an obscure Victorian printer who changed how children's books are made. Almost all the source material about him lives behind a pay-wall, but we have a nice page here, open to the public. Bottom line: how many people get burned out after working on Big Pages, and how many people are writing pages that are free, not behind paywalls, available on the internet. Even if on relatively obscure topics. Consider adding to you analysis. Truthkeeper (talk) 20:46, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Take care and enjoy your turkey day. Truthkeeper (talk) 20:46, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Quite understood. Peace, fellow Steinbeck lover! TCO (reviews needed) 20:48, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

First Ezra, then Steinbeck. First East of Eden, my all-time favorite book, then the bio. Hopefully next summer. Truthkeeper (talk) 20:52, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back

You have redlinks to two deleted pages on your userpage. Do you want those restored?--Wehwalt (talk) 00:40, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, sir.RetiredUser12459780 (talk) 00:43, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
The one I didn't undelete I couldn't find. Was there a deletion, or is this a planned essay?--Wehwalt (talk) 00:46, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

The Rumsfeldian thing was planned...RetiredUser12459780 (talk) 00:52, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
