Changing all the Mayflower Titles
Mike, why did you change all those titles? Now it is even more confusing than before. You also changed the title of Mayflower Passenger List to List of Mayflower Passengers.
The idea is to make it easier for these articles to be found. If you were a student would you look under List of -- or Mayflower Passenger List. Am trying to keep the titles as close together on some articles as possible.
Please talk about it first before you change anymore titles.
I do not understand why you did that? Would you please tell me your rationale? Thanks. Mugginsx (talk) 21:53, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Mike, I believe there's a massive WP:OWN and WP:CIR situation here; this user dragged someone to Jimbo's talk page recently over the exact same articles. If I were you, I'd bring this to ANI. JMO. —Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 22:15, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- That is so funny! OrangeMike is aware of everything and he can speak for himself, in fact we have been discussing this back and forth without you advice Strange. Mugginsx (talk) 22:23, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Funny indeed, because any editor is entitled to an opinion on Misplaced Pages. —Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 22:25, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- An Opinion is part of a discussion, not in changing everything without discussion and without uninvolved troublemakers added their own opinion. I am starting not to give a damn about these articles. I thought we had a good discussion going. I go to the doctors and come back and it is all changed. If you want to discuss fine, I will be happy to, if not, do whatever you want. I have studied this subject and done a tremendous amount of work on it, including speaking to scholars on the subject as I already told you. If that is WP:OWN then the changing of all the titles without us finishing our discussion is the same. Perhaps Srange doesn't understand why an American would care about the Mayflower crew. It's to be expected that non-Americans not realize ir importance but I thought they would be important to us to discuss. It is up to you. They are worth discussing but without "Strange's" strange interference.
- In reading your User page, It would seem you would have even a more personal interest in seeing these articles are correct than even the average American. So does the man I have been working with for these many months. If you want to talk you know where to find me.Mugginsx (talk) 22:33, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

This is Misplaced Pages, a global project. One of the ways we work is to share our thinking with each other. Thus, I welcome the Strange Passerby's contributions as well as yours, Muggins. As to the substance of the discussion: we have certain naming conventions for articles here. One is that a list of Xs will be titled List of Xs, not Xs list. Another is that we title articles in a manner consistent with all articles in Misplaced Pages, not in a manner peculiar to a single narrow subject. Thus, if there is only one Fred Schlabotnick of note, we call the article Fred Schlabotnick, not Fred Schlabotnick (couturier), even if there are many other articles about couturiers where the parenthetical "(couturier)" 'is added to disambiguate. An article is "correct" here when it conforms to Misplaced Pages standards, not when it conforms to peculiar usages exclusive to a narrow subject matter and its specialists. In the English language, and therefore in the English language Misplaced Pages, a "pilgrim" is a person who goes on a religious pilgrimage, not a Plymouth Colony Separatist. If you want to set up your own wiki with its own nomenclatorial and terminological conventions, that is your right; but in this project, you must conform to our standards and conventions; Misplaced Pages does not need to conform to those of Mayflower specialists or believers in American exceptionalism. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:42, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- OK Mike, then what's this - and there are many more where they came from - made by many editors from many countries: Alan Fletcher (graphic designer), Andrew Fletcher (politician), Carl Fletcher (Canadian soccer), Rod Fletcher (basketball), Guy Fletcher (songwriter), Gareth Hopkins (footballer), John Hopkins (motorcycle racer), John Turner (disambiguation).
- By the way I took these names because they are the last names of Mayflower Pilgrims - and there are many more. I could go on all day. Are the Mayflower Pilgrims not at least as important as these? There are only a limited number - maybe 50, I haven't counted. I respect you Mike but I think you are wrong on this one issue. Try to change the article titles I just linked here and see what happens. That's all I'm saying. Mugginsx (talk) 13:06, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- Please Muggins, learn to use wikilinks! So what point are you trying to make. All the people you have listed have "qualifications", eg. (songwriter) after their names because there is more than one person with that name in Misplaced Pages. That is why we have had to add (Mayflower passenger), etc. to some of the names in Category:Mayflower passengers. But Peregrine White and Resolved White, for example, do not need anything more in their titles because they are the only people with these respective names. I am sorry but I totally agree with Orange Mike in this matter. Incidentally and changing the subject, please explain this edit: in what way does the presence of resolution (music) in the resolve article "cause problems in searching"? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:24, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- So would you propose that all the people in Category:Songwriters should be moved, eg. Salif Keita to Salif Keita (songwriter)? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:57, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- No, not at all! Of course I think they are needed. I was trying to make a point by comparison to people with same name as Mayflower persons, that is all. It was not personal to anyone - just to show that it is being used in other articles. I will let you two handle the title changes to the ones that have nothing after their name. To: RHaworth - I will differentiate in the beautiful NavTemplate that you made - as you yourself agreed that the separation was needed. What is wrong with my Wiki Links? Will study the guidelines and try to do better. Mugginsx (talk) 16:27, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- To answer your remark: "I thought I wasn't supposed to change something once it was archvied". You are allowed to go back and change your own comments - though I would call it obsessive. Changing comments by others is very strongly deprecated and changing them to distort the meaning is a wikicrime. What is wrong with your wikilinks? In the context of my message above, quite simply your wikilinks were non-existent. Please see the first part of this edit where I have replaced your horrible ugly, naked URIs with proper wikilinks. Can you see the difference? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:58, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I see.Mugginsx (talk) 19:44, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Message reply with request and gratitude
Hi Orangemike! Thank you so much! The article is Ven digital currency. There are plenty of sub-texts (aren't there always though...) Just so you know, I don't have any inherent bias against digital currencies e.g. Bitcoin. I don't particularly trust them at this point in time, but as long as there is nothing dishonest or unsourced with what is on Misplaced Pages about them, I have no issues! (And the last time I looked, the WP Bitcoin page looked okay to me). Please have a look at Ven, and my comments on the talk page?
There is other stuff going on too, e.g. Hub Culture (I think that's the name?), the company that owns Ven, keeps popping up on other WP pages e.g. in the cultural attractions for Berlin, with references to Hub Culture's ranking of Berlin as a happening place. It is hardly notable that Hub Culture considers Berlin a place for adventure and excitement! There are many other genuinely notable sources that also do! There is more, but I'm not totally certain e.g. I think that Ven currency is a pet project of FB's MZ sister Randi.
Anyway, this is the substance of my concern: It is misleading for Ven to be promoted, via WP, as a legitimate mainstream form of monetary transaction (sorry bad grammar), with references to buying million dollar condo's, fine wines, diamonds etc. Other digital currencies e.g. Bitcoin, don't claim that they are appropriate for real estate purchases, in contrast! Take a look at the talk page for Ven, and please let me know if I can provide further information. The thing that bothers me the most is that I keep seeing quotes from the Misplaced Pages entry on Ven, plastered all over the internet, but can't find corroboration of whether or not Ven is actually listed by Thomson Reuters, and every time I try to research Ven, or its API, or the company founder, I come up with bad websites, no documentation, no validation with anything credible. Thank you again, and if you want me to leave this alone, please tell me, and I will. I just wanted someone to talk to about this, without being indiscrete.
P.S. Congratulations on your HighBeam account! Wow! I am envious, I've always wanted to try it as a legitimate user. (I am certain that you are deserving. No snark intended, okay?) --FeralOink (talk) 08:57, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Orangemike! If this is not appropriate, what I've said above, or if you feel that no action is necessary, and I should not act further, that is fine. But might you be so kind as to delete or archive all this stuff I wrote out here, as it might seem puzzling or worse to others who read it. I am sorry, and merely asking that you consider my request, to cover this up, as after all, it is YOUR talk page, and my babbling, and so I have no one to blame but myself, and I apologize, okay? Thank you. --FeralOink (talk) 21:24, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

CREWE
Re: "I'd like to know whether it's true that CREWE and other paid editors are planning to attend WikiMania Washington en masse in order to ensure that their viewpoint on paid editing is perceived as the majority opinion? Most of us on the sceptic side are unable to afford to go, of course, since nobody is going to pay for us to attend just to defend our perception of what is in the best interests of this project." — Mike, you seem to see CREWE as some sort of monolithic bogey. I invite you to join the group yourself, I think it will both put your mind at ease regarding such (non-existent) subterranean plots on the one hand, and might challenge your thinking about COI editing in the second place. What you may see as a black-and-white issue (as I did myself not so long ago) will become more challenging to you once you ponder the situation through other eyes. The group is wide open and there are a number of hardcore Wikipedians (as opposed to PR peeps) who actively participate. http://www.facebook.com/groups/crewe.group/ is the addie. Best regards, —Tim Davenport //// Carrite (talk) 03:46, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- I had maintained reasonable hope that CREWE would make some kind of productive contribution to the issue. However their latest wave of actions seem to confirm otherwise. How can anyone who really cares about Misplaced Pages defend a group of people that openly attack Misplaced Pages's credibility, insult its rules and use a bias, misinformed propaganda machine to attack COI fundamentals? I agree the rumor seems baseless, but CREWE isn't doing much to gain the community's favor. Many in the community - including myself - feel offended and angry.
- In any case, I actually dropped by Mike's Talk page to see if he wanted to contribute here, where there is a discussion on how we can make current rules more clear to PR folks. User:King4057 (COI Disclosure on User Page) 01:05, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, you (Orangemike) said that "this is not a real estate listing service!" however under churches section someone listed all the churches in Wishaw, but in your opinion it is wrong to list all services of the local volunteer centre..
Well done! I gave up. A a member of the local community I can't update wiki. It's not allowed. My proactive behavior it is not good enough. I was only trying to provide better information to the local community.

Hi Orangemike. May I suggest not using the {{COI}} or {{Autobiography}} templates on articles, unless there are specific issues which need to be addressed? The author of the linked article appears to have done a good job in preventing their affiliation having adverse effects on the article, and I can't see how the tags were supposed to help in this case. Let me know if I've missed something. Cheers, and happy editing. AJCham 19:38, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Lists of self-publishing companies
In an effort to improve sourcing in our articles, me and a couple other editors have created two lists of self-publishing companies:
- List of self-publishing companies in article space for notable self-publishing houses
- WP:List of self-publishing companies in Misplaced Pages space for notable and non-notable self-publishing houses
It's our hope that by maintaining such lists, it will be easier for editors to identify self-published books. In a discussion at the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Misplaced Pages reliability talk page, The Blade of the Northern Lights said that you and another editor know vanity publishers very well. If you can provide any assistance with these two lists, it would be greatly appreciated. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 23:49, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

- The thing that tipped it for the article (aside from the obvious COI) was the line " strives to produce innovative systems".
