TranslationI'm also interested to find out more about this translation project. Heard about it via Twitter and then a reply to a question on AfrophoneWikis. What is required for projects to sign on? Is there any dovetailing with efforts to build basic science content, or other development-related content in the languages concerned?--A12n (talk) 13:06, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Talk:Tay–Sachs disease/GA1I was wondering what the status of this review was. It has been ongoing for over two months at this point. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:00, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Whew! That was a close one!!You will be happy to know that WP:COIN has determined that there is no evidence that either of us have a COI. In related news, we also did not assassinate Thomas D'Arcy McGee, Abraham Lincoln, or Julius Caesar. On the other hand, Jack the Ripper is still an open question; there are theories that involve surgical knowledge... (smile). --Guy Macon (talk) 02:07, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for July 5Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The sound you asked has been inserted into the article but please take into account that the article has been moved under the initial title without the initial article ("H") which is not necessary for the title. Thanks. --Ttzavaras (talk) 22:32, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks - just dropping by brieflyI've just logged in for the first time in a while, and saw your messages. I have not even visited those pages yet, but I'm glad to see that they are being maintained so actively and that editors will have an opportunity to be recognized. I'll decline due to various considerations, but I deeply appreciate the invitation and the thoughtfulness is reflects. Real life is particularly hectic, and value my anonymity here. -- Scray (talk) 00:57, 6 July 2012 (UTC) NumbersYou are correct in that generally numbers less than 10 are spelled out. However, the Manual of Style: Dates and Numbers states: "Comparable quantities should be all spelled out or all figures: we may write either 5 cats and 32 dogs or five cats and thirty-two dogs, not five cats and 32 dogs." This was my reason for the edits. --Dkevanko (talk) 01:40, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Why don't you replace with known journal same research instead of going round and round??I was told by two editors responding to my Q in Teahouse that TED / Ornish WAS appropriate. I will provide the peer reviewed journal published research (note that TED is 2008) asap, but why don't / didn't you do that? I think the video is a better way to help users get the full value of the known facts. I didn't add the NYT it was there too prior. I have been told Teahouse that it's OK generally too. I removed it because it's old 2011, same group updated in 2012 stronger statement. I'll remover the NYT and replace with prior. Please leave the TED for a few days busy but will add journal research mentioned under study in the TED.32cllou (talk) 02:34, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Swedish Misplaced Pages editingHello Jmh649. Your recent edit of the article sv:Krupp (virusinfektion) has led to a question and discussion over at the Swedish Village pump, "sv:Misplaced Pages:Bybrunnen, which I thought you should be aware of. From a quick look I understand that you're involved in an ambitious translation project, which is very commendable. However, your editing, while adding a lot of valuable substance, was seen as a bit heavy-handed. A comment which I liked was "Our common practice is that you improve articles by adding new parts of the existing article, and that you try to work them together, not that you do a completely new version, sweep away the previous one totally (even the interwiki links!) when you add a new version. Also, a new article should be completely translated before you enter it, which means that you shouldn't add text and tables in English". It was also commented that it is two completely different things to add missing articles (redlinks) based on translations from another language version - which would be very valuable - . On a personal note, I must say that I've found that it's seldom a good idea to do substantive edits (rather than e.g. adding interwiki links, images, categories...) in a language that you don't really command. Also, if you write over existing articles, you must be prepared to answer questions in the language of the article. However, since you're involved in a very ambitious project with a lot of potential also for Swedish Misplaced Pages, I'm not trying to say "stop editing the Swedish version" or anything like that, but rather wanted you to be aware that your edits caused raised eyebrows and that there may be a need to modify practices in order to improve content without losing existing information, which by the way may include a lot of valuable information even in very short articles. Best regards, Tomas e (talk) 09:39, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Could you please add some more information about this image here? It's currently the first image on the cerebrospinal fluid article. Mainly whether it is human CSF and how it was retrieved. Although, do you think you could obtain a good image (or a few) under a microscope? I think that would contribute to the article a lot more. Thanks a lot! Arc de Ciel (talk) 04:35, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Misplaced Pages pagesDear Author/Jmh649 My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Misplaced Pages pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Misplaced Pages pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Misplaced Pages and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Hormone Replacement Therapy. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please visit my Talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Please comment on hereDoc James, I am contacting you because you are a member of WP:MEDICINE who has contributed to the article Circumcision in the past. There is an active discussion right now at Talk:Circumcision#Proposed_new_photo_File:Rituelle_Beschneidung.jpg_does_not_improve_this_article_along_Wikipedia_guidelines. An editor has suggested adding a new image of the procedure to the article Circumcision, and there is a discussion about whether this is the best image to use in the article. Your input would be appreciated. Thanks!
OsteoporosisDear Doc James: OK. Thanks. Can you suggest a good overview of treatment recommendations for osteoporosis? I was thinking of starting a separate Misplaced Pages article for "Management of Osteoporosis" to include a table of the different treatment options with the best information I could find suggesting which one to use when, hoping that knowledgeable people would help make it real. I'm an engineer and a statistician. My wife needs to be on an osteoporosis drug, but they all seem to have serious side effects, and I've so far been unable to find a good overview that would recommend different therapies depending on your condition. This may be a bad idea, but I thought that if I started the article and provided the basic outline, others might be willing to fill in some of the pieces needed to make it useful. DavidMCEddy (talk) 03:31, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Management of OsteoporosisHi, Doc James: I'm glad you like the idea of a separate article on "Management of Osteoporosis" and agreed to help with it. I'll get started today searching for review articles on PubMed, as you suggested. I also plan to notify a cousin, who is an epidemiologist and a referee for several technical journals. She may also suggest some articles. Is it reasonable to title the article "Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis"? Or are the two topics sufficiently different that it it would be better to focus only on "Management of Osteoporosis"? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 15:00, 14 July 2012 (UTC)DavidMCEddy (talk) 15:08, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Translation projectThanks James! I am interested in at least trying to support the project - the first article that you have sent across to me is really good. Let me know how I could help. If I don't manage (time wise) I will send it across to the Polish Chapter friends. Kaiho (talk) 15:31, 14 July 2012 (UTC) PubMed accessHello, Doc James: I just successfully registered with PubMed and received an email acknowledgment with a link to complete the activation process, which I did. If this does NOT give me "full access", please let me know what else to do. Thanks again. DavidMCEddy (talk) 15:39, 14 July 2012 (UTC) Searching PubMed for secondary sources?Hi, Doc James: In PubMed, how do I limit the search to review articles? I found a field called "Secondary Source ID", but it looks like I need to specify a value or range of values, and I don't know how to do that. A search for "osteoporosis" found 40337 items. I selected "Secondary Source ID" for a second field but without specifying a value of acceptable range. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 17:09, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Re: EscharHello Jmh, Hello My core, thank you for your quick answers. (This is cross posted in the medicine portal and on Jmhs' talk page as per his request.) My core and you, Jmh, answered the questions I raised halfway. Namely you state An eschar is dry, black, hard necrotic tissue. The picture in the WP-article does indeed show no such thing. While the scab shown it might be dry and hard, it is certainly not black. (Wherefore I assume it is not an Eschar.) Also, since you made the distinctions clear, might it not be necessary to alter the article about wound healing (to which scab redirects) in such a way that the logical distinction becomes clear? The caption under the image in question also remains in its illogical state. I raised the question because I did and do not feel qualified to edit medical articles and the logic of both of them seemed contradictory. Your --Abracus (talk) 23:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC) Fame?I presuming you knew about this? Congratulations on your fame and fortune... :) Fayedizard (talk) 07:13, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Quick rough edit of a stubG'day! I just did a temporary quick edit of a medical stub - it was one of the examples I'd researched for the Wikimania talk, and it had a bunch of real marketing-type statements for a medical product (hydrocolloid dressings). I still think it needs quite a bit of work, and will come back to it in the future to do it properly (and to tidy up references and so on). But thought a quick and dirty job was better than waiting till I could do it properly. Hope that's ok. Have a good week! Hilda — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hildabast (talk • contribs) 20:25, 15 July 2012 (UTC) PS: about the Cochrane reviewsHi! I forgot to mention that Cochrane had an artificial way of dating for its citations (for citation impact purposes), which doesn't accurately date the reviews. We've negotiated with them to fix this prospectively, but it's a major problem with existing reviews. On PubMed Health we include the last updated year: so you'll see I've cited a review that appears to be in 2006 - but if you look at it on PubMed Health or in the Cochrane Library, you'll see it was updated in 2010, so it is an updated review. We hope to get on top of this in the coming months, but I couldn't see how to show it in the citation here. (Plus I forgot to sign the previous message - sorry, I will get the hang of this!) Hildabast (talk) 20:35, 15 July 2012 (UTC) Good!Glad my first one was ok - still needs quite a bit of work, but the worst is gone. I'll pick a few here and there to tinker with. But if you've got something that you think really needs solving and you don't have enough hands on deck to do it, let me know. Now that editing info isn't my day job any more, it doesn't fully suck to do it in my own time. ;) Hildabast (talk) 00:58, 16 July 2012 (UTC) PubMed article types have so far not worked for meHi, Doc James: With "http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=osteoporosis", filtering on "Article Types" seems not to work for me with either Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox: I get 56500 articles seemingly no matter what I select or don't select under "Article Type". Selecting "Publication dates" = 5 years reduces the number to 15507. Also selecting Species: Human reduces it further to 12158. Any suggestions about what to do to get the "Article types" filter to work? (I'm also asking LeadSongDog, who also offered suggestions on how to use PubMed.) Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 02:46, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
