Good news! You are approved for access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research.

  • Account activation codes have been emailed.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1

  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate. Examples are at WP:HighBeam/Citations.
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences

Thanks for helping make Misplaced Pages better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi 04:46, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Famous residents section on Moate page

Hi O'Dea,

I noticed that you removed the Famous residents section from the Moate wiki page with an edit summary of "From Athlone" on 3 May 2012. You may want to put something on the talk page because that section has been the subject of a lot of edit warring in the three years or so I've been watching the page. As an outsider I don't have a particular dog in the fight but some people seem to take it way too seriously. Wolfhound668 (talk) 14:41, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Spideog. You have new messages at CactusWriter's talk page.

Mentoring

Would you be willing to mentor me on editing wikipedia? Because I want to become an administrator eventually but I don't have a good history here. --RJR3333 (talk) 16:40, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

May 2012

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Although everyone is invited to contribute, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Nuala Holloway, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Your alterations to this page include an uncited DOB and because two pages from over 6 years ago state one name while dozens of others in more recent times (as recent as April 2012 in The Irish Times) state another doesn't make your decision the ultimately accurate one — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.22.156 (talk) 08:23, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Bosco Hogan.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Bosco Hogan.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 13:03, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Adding People to Terenure

Hi, I see you added several people to the Category:Terenure, I have since removed them as I do not believe this is correct. The ultimate ancestor of these categories is Geography of X. I'm sure people should be in People from X or People associated with X categories, not in geographical cats. Snappy (talk) 19:26, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I should have noticed I needed to create a proper category for those articles. — O'Dea (talk) 03:45, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Even edits that are nowhere near WP:3RR can be edit warring, and your repeated reverts to AeroVironment Nano Hummingbird, against consensus, style and project policy, are becoming disruptive. You have been asked repeatedly not to include "The" in aircraft infobox headers, as that is not how they are used, but you have repeatedly re-inserted it without discussion; repeated re-insertion of removed material without discussion to gain consensus for its inclusion is edit warring, regardless of how much time has passed between the edits, and can be seen as vandalism that could result in your being blocked from editing. Lant

Hello. Your article Lant has had a {{No footnotes}} template since 2010, meaning "This article includes a list of references, related reading or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. Please improve this article by introducing more precise citations." Perhaps you could respond, please, to identify the article's references more precisely. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 03:56, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

  • The references cover the same scope of information and specific quotes are clearly cited in the body of the article. I removed the template. Other editors are welcome to make formatting improvements if they think it is important to readers. --Dystopos (talk) 14:45, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

June 2012

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Eddie Rockets. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing. NorthernCounties (talk) 13:28, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

2012 Aurora shooting

I am a PhD student analyzing Misplaced Pages's coverage of breaking news events. I wanted to give you a heads up that I referenced you in a blog post I made examining Misplaced Pages's response to the 2012 Aurora shooting. Best, Madcoverboy (talk) 19:07, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

I think you might have just breached 3RR over there. So you might get a warning or even a block. Just a reminder. No strong views on the debate, but wp policy favours US date format, I think. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:42, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
The other editor is the one who violated that policy. He does not understand the style policy on this question. — O'Dea (talk) 22:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
It's sometimes hard to tell who got there first, isn't it. Maybe Ryan should have ben warned before he got there. Three is not a big number, is it. But perhaps the internal article consistency argument also comes into play here? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:53, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Take it to the article talk page, please. I don't want all these personal messages. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 22:58, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
