In April 2012, Canterbury falsely announced that he would no longer be part of the series due to family and business reasons. In truth, in September of 2011, Canterbury was fired by Discovery for misrepresenting his military and civilian background and experience. Canterbury's false military claims can be seen on the POWnetwork.org website under their "phonies" section, letter "C". Dual Survival is an American reality cable television series aired on the Discovery Channel. The show features a pair of survival experts in challenging environments.
For the first two seasons the show featured the differing outdoor survival philosophies and skills of Cody Lundin, a professional survival skills and primitive-skills expert who runs the Aboriginal Living Skills School in Arizona and Dave Canterbury, the previous co-host of the program who was fired from the show before filming the 3rd season due to misrepresenting his military and civilian back ground and experience.
Production
Dual Survival's first and second seasons originally aired in 2010 and 2011, respectively. A third season is currently under production.
Format
In Dual Survival's first two seasons, each episode features Cody and Dave in a different survival situation like being marooned on a deserted island, lost in a forbidding jungle, or stranded in an arid desert. They then have to survive for a number of days with minimal gear. Along the way, Cody and Dave demonstrate various survival skills such as using primitive methods to make fire and obtaining potable water.
Conflict often arises due to the differences between Cody and Dave's individual survival philosophies and methods. Cody, who does not wear shoes or long pants, sometimes slows down the team when they are navigating through particularly tough terrain. Additionally, Dave sometimes goes after dangerous animals for food that Cody would rather avoid, while Cody prefers to gather edibles that Dave has far less interest in eating.
Cast change
In April 2012, Canterbury falsely announced that he would no longer be part of the series due to family and business reasons. In truth, in September of 2011, Canterbury was fired by Discovery for misrepresenting his military and civilian background and experience. Canterbury's false military claims can be seen on the POWnetwork.org website under their "phonies" section, letter "C". Canterbury also falsely claimed to have 20 years of survival skills experience which was proven untrue by the surfacing of Canterbury's own 2008 bio in which he was a factory worker at an auto plant in Ohio the year before he signed to be on Dual Survival. This bio can be viewed on BushcraftUSA. The firing of Canterbury and the searching and rehiring of a new co-host for Lundin delayed the filming of season three by more than eight months.
