The X Factor Philippines is a Filipino television music competition, adapted from the original UK show as part of The X Factor franchise, to find new singing talent in the Philippines. It is the first franchise to be adapted in Southeast Asia. The winner will receive a 4 million peso worth of recording contract with Star Records.

Overview

Before the program was officially announced, ABS-CBN showed The X Factor logo after the end of some of its programs; a new teaser was later revealed bearing the announcement of the Philippine version of the series.

On December 29, 2011, KC Concepcion was announced as the host of the show. In March 2012, singers Charice and Martin Nievera were announced as the first two of the four judges. In April 2012, Gary Valenciano was named as the third judge. Pilita Corrales was later confirmed to complete the set of judges for the show.

ABS-CBN continued to advertise the show with its short commercials which displayed the text "the country's biggest and grandest music event of the year" as the the first winner will be awarded with a 4 million peso recording contract.

Format and prize

There are five stages to The X Factor Philippines:

  • Stage 1: Producers' auditions (these auditions decide who will sing in front of the judges)
  • Stage 2: Judges' auditions
  • Stage 3: Bootcamp
  • Stage 4: Judges' home visit
  • Stage 5: Live shows (finalist)

Auditions stage

The show is open to solo artists and vocal groups ages 16 and above. Successful auditionees from the producers audition in front of the judges and live audience wherein the judges must vote to allow the auditionee to proceed to the next round. In that case, at least three judges have to say yes for the auditionee to move on to the next round.

Bootcamp and judges' home visit

In Bootcamp, acts will have to go through a series of performances to test their "x factor." The number of acts will then be trimmed down to 20 and will be divided into four categories: Boys (5 solo male acts aged 16-25), Girls (5 solo female acts aged 16-25), Over 25's (5 solo adult acts over 25 years old) and Groups (5 group acts aged 16 and above).

At the bootcamp, the producers will also reveal which category the judges will be mentoring. The judges then disband for the "Judges' home visit" round, where only 3 from each category will remain and proceed to the live shows.

Live shows

The finals consist of a series of two live shows, with the first featuring the acts' performances during Saturdays, and the second revealing the results of the public voting on Sundays. Celebrity guest acts will be featured regularly.

Post The X Factor

The winner of The X Factor is awarded a recording contract with 4 million pesos, said to be the biggest prize in a Philippine singing competition.
