Hols + FAs
Enjoy your break. When you get back, you might cast an eye at the fuss I've caused at Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_review#Featuring_.22old.22_FAs_on_Main_Page. At some point, some old FAs we've written will need a spot check. I'll get someone else to do them. --Dweller (talk) 15:23, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Paul Jewell
I honestly thought he'd be a brilliant manager for you lot. Delighted I was wrong. Apparently Evans has already approached about 3 dozen managers. He should work in direct marketing. Who are you hoping for? McCarthy? I hear Roy Keane may be available. Seriously, I think McCarthy would be a great manager, but a) would he really want to take the job? and b) refer back to my first sentence.
Strange how well your situation today mirrors ours when Roeder left. If you appoint a Gunn, you'd better make sure you get a Lambert to follow very soon afterwards. --Dweller (talk) 23:07, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

- They broke the mould, eh? I think Ipswich probably can't afford an expensive manager, so no compensation would be preferable but desperately need a name who'll be able to attract players, which Jewell seems to have failed with. Not sure Coyle would do the trick there. Burley and McCarthy would, I reckon, although it seems to me that McCarthy tends to alienate some players once he's in post. --Dweller (talk) 13:56, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Freedom of speech = New WikiProject
Hi there, I'm notifying you as I noticed your excellent work on the Featured List page, Sakharov Prize. I've recently gone ahead and created WP:WikiProject Freedom of speech. If you're interested, here are some easy things you can do:
- List yourself as a participant in the WikiProject, by adding your username here: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Freedom_of_speech#Participants.
- Add userbox {{User Freedom of speech}} to your userpage, which lists you as a member of the WikiProject.
- Tag relevant talk pages of articles and other relevant pages using {{WikiProject Freedom of speech}}.
- Join in discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Freedom of speech.
- Notify others you think might be interested in Freedom of speech to join the WikiProject.
Thank you for your interest in Freedom of speech, — Cirt (talk) 17:36, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've added my name, feel free to include me in any relevant discussions. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:24, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Edit war in List of ATP number 1 ranked singles players
There appears to be a huge ongoing edit war in this article (history). I'm not involved in this one, but there appears to be multiple violations of WP:3RR and WP:No personal attacks. IP is violating the consensus-agreed rule that the rankings should not be updated until the week has passed (in accordance to the no crystal ball policy). I posted a warning on his talk page, but that's about as much as I can do. Could you step in and mediate in this situation? Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 15:44, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Done. Please take all discussion to the talk page, and encourage the IP who keeps changing address to do the same. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- You made most sense of all in this "war". Just to clarify, 178.223.194.201 is NOT my IP, I don't agree with man who made that change (65 weeks for Joker 3 months ahead). But I was provoked by Gap9551 and his inconsistent logic. Should move arguing on talk page, not make it an edit war. Sorry for that. But partially, I succeed - page is protected and reflects a current state of things, that means 301 weeks for Federer and counting. Job done! :) Doesn't have much time for Wiki, otherwise I would register. One day soon I hope. Thank you... 178.148.230.115 (talk) 09:21, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Main page TFA rewording
Hi there. Just to let you know that a discussion at T:MP has resulted in two changes to the "featured article" section: (1) the TFA section is now headed "From today's featured article" and (2) the "more..." link at the end has been changed to "Read the full article". For consistency, I have edited the main page to say "From today's featured list" and edited the TFL template to say "Read the full list". I neither participated in nor closed the discussion; I'm just notifying various people, including your esteemed self, of the result. Regards, Bencherlite 21:06, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Theo (dog)
On 2 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Theo (dog), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the detection dog Theo was awarded the Dickin Medal in 2012, described as the animals' Victoria Cross? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Theo (dog). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

School District 53 Okanagan Similkameen
Hi! Do you think School District 53 Okanagan Similkameen would be a good candidate for featured list status, as right now I'm afraid it doesn't pass 3b of the featured list criteria. This is the only article for this, and it can't be merged into anything, however, I personally believe it passes, but am not sure of what others think. Do you think it does? Thoughts? Thanks so much, TBrandley 19:11, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Looks more like an article to me with a list tagged on the end, so I'd suggest it could be a candidate for good article? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:12, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree as well. But would it pass the good article criteria for comprehensiveness, I'm afraid it wouldn't. Same goes for WP:FA?. Cheers, TBrandley 19:15, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not an expert in the subject so I'm afraid it's too hard for me to give you an appraisal of its comprehensiveness. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:18, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree as well. But would it pass the good article criteria for comprehensiveness, I'm afraid it wouldn't. Same goes for WP:FA?. Cheers, TBrandley 19:15, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
WP:BN
Misplaced Pages is about writing an encyclopedia, not engaging in endless roundabout debate on a noticeboard. I'm trying to, you know, edit articles and improve things. Right now, 90% of my post-return contributions are on noticeboards, and that's not what I came back for. polarscribe (talk) 17:54, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Isn't it bleedingly obvious that if my intent was to do anything improper with the tools, I'd be spotted in 5 seconds flat and desysopped? Seriously, assume good faith that I learned from my action four years ago, took a long, long break and have reactivated my interest in editing and mopping the encyclopedia. I earned the tools, used them well in the past and plan to use them appropriately in the future. There are five people on the BN with pitchforks and torches after me, and I submit that that does not constitute a consensus of anything. polarscribe (talk) 18:10, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- "Pitchforks and torches" and you bleat AGF? And it's good to know that you believe that without the admin tools one cannot edit articles or improve things! Seriously, I don't think you intend doing anything improper with the tools, what I question, given your history (which includes improper use of the tools bith in content disputes and on your talk page) is your knowledge of policy and your judgement in using the tools. Importance of lists
I'm very much inactive at the moment mate. Quite busy in real life, and most of my wiki-time is spent on trying to help Wikidata develop to the point where it will be useful. As far as en.wiki is concerned, I'm following my watchlist and talk page at best, so I thought I'd forward this one to you.
User:Cloudz679 re-assessed List of top-division football clubs in UEFA countries as low; I reverted. The user notified me via my talk page that WP:FOOTY guidelines (one of the very same family that considers all paint pot substitutes as being notable) considers all football related lists to be low-importance. This strikes me as a case where the guideline itself isn't right? I would have thought that club-specific lists would be low importance, country-specific lists would be low-to-mid importance (depending on the subject matter), and lists relating to continental, international or world football be mid to high (again, depending on the subject matter)? —WFC— FL wishlist 07:26, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
