Hello Venus (헬로비너스; stylized as HELLOVENUS) is a South Korean girl group formed by Pledis Entertainment and Fantagio in 2012. They are the second girl group to debut under Pledis Entertainment (the other being After School). The group consists of Yoo Ara, Nara, Alice, Lime, Yoonjo, and Yooyoung. They are After School and NU'EST's sister group, and debuted on May 9, 2012.

History

Pre-debut

Pledis Entertainment collaborated with Fantagio Entertainment, an acting agency, for Hello Venus' showcase in April. According to reports from both agencies, the group had already been preparing for their first single, a dance song from a famous composer. Fantagio revealed, "They’ve trained for about a year and a half. Four members are from Fantagio and three are from Pledis, and after their debut, Fantagio will be managing the acting portions of their promotion while Pledis will be taking over variety."

Yoo Ara, Yoonjo and Lime were trainees, called 'Pre-School Girls', of sister group After School, with the former two featuring on their first album Virgin. Lime was featured as a backing vocalist on the song "Love Letter" under her real name (Hyelim), while Yoo Ara also sang and appeared in the music video. Yoonjo was featured in After School's song "Dream" for their album Virgin All three girls were expected to join After School at some point. Yoo Ara, along with fellow Pledis trainee Kyungmin, were the final two candidates to become After School's ninth member, however, current After School member E-Young was chosen instead. Lime was also in the pre-debut line-up of a girl group called Viva Girls; consisting of several members including Nine Muses member Kyungri. However, the group disbanded and each girl left the company.

Lime also wrote the rap lyrics of Scotch V.I.P's song 'Finale' and was a backup dancer for Chaeyeon.

Alice debuted on June 13, 2010 as a solo singer with the stage name "Ora" and released a music video of her debut single titled "Naughty Face" on June 15, 2010.

2012-present: Debut with Venus, Like a Wave, & 2nd Mini Album

Hello Venus first became known under the name Venus, after Han Sungsoo updated his Twitter biography with the name. It was first rumoured to be an After School sub-unit, but was later updated under the name "helLOVEnus", and confirmed to be a brand new group. On April 17, 2012, Hello Venus was officially announced with a teaser image, along with the opening of an official website, Facebook, Twitter, Daum Café and YouTube channel. The final group had six members, containing three members from Pledis: Yoo Ara, Yoonjo and Lime, and three members from Fantiago: Alice, Nara and Yooyoung.

On May 9, 2012, Hello Venus debuted their mini-album 'Venus'. 'Venus' features four track in all, with "Venus" serving as the promotional track.

Promotions for "Venus" began on May 10, 2012, on M! Countdown without Yoonjo.

On July 4, 2012, the group released "Like a Wave", off the digital album 'Like a Wave (Digital Repackage)'.

A managing director for Pledis Entertainment released a picture of a recording studio with someone inside (possibly one of the Hello Venus members) on his Twitter account. He said “Doing pick-up recording for Hello Venus second mini album (changed from a single to a mini) ^o^!" This revealed that Hello Venus will be making a comeback with a 2nd mini album.

On November 19, Pledis Entertainment said Hello Venus is to make a comeback mid-December as full six-member group.
