== Help at Danny Green please ==

Hi Dianna. I've been trying to rewrite the ] article to reduce the vast amount of unsourced and POV information that both exists in the article, and is currently being added. My aim with the article is to reduce it to the basic facts (hopefully non-controversial) so that knowledgeable local editors can find sources. Currently, I'm being thwarted by an IP who is undoing my edits as I go. Could you please have a look at the article and see if there is anything you can do to clear the path for me to improve it over the next day or two? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Cheers. ] ] 22:36, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Request for the deletion of orphaned non-free revision

Hello! Diannaa. My humble request is " Please delete the below non-free revision for the image " :

File:Sarocharu album cover.jpg

Thank you for the fast response and support.

Raghusri (talk) 10:44, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

But the tag says to delete it on December 13. It's too soon. -- Dianna (talk) 16:25, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

O.K. Thanks for the reply. Raghusri (talk) 09:43, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello! Diannaa. Please delete the Orphaned non-free revisions for the above image tomorrow, because tag states to delete them on December 13, 2012. Thank you. Raghusri (talk) 14:46, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Raghusri. Don't worry about things getting missed; many administrative tasks are listed on my User:Diannaa/Dashboard, which I check several times per day. Many administrators use this tool to help them locate admin tasks. Things will happen, with or without reminders. -- Dianna (talk) 15:07, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
When adding a template for orphaned non-free revisions, please use {{subst:Orfurrev}}. This will ensure that the files get placed in the correct daily maintenance categories. Thanks. -- Dianna (talk) 01:21, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. Raghusri (talk) 11:12, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

File:Raymond Reierson.jpg

I saw your close of this speedy deletion nomination "based on the information contained on the Provincial Archives website, which allows use of their images for educational purposes" and it confused me. How is this different than an image which has permission for use on Misplaced Pages, which by my understanding we treat exactly the same as every other piece of non-free content? VernoWhitney (talk) 14:29, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Verno! I interpreted it to mean that it would be okay to use it for fair use. Please feel free to take the matter to Deletion Review for wider discussion if you wish. Best, -- Dianna (talk) 15:01, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. I've done that at Misplaced Pages:Files for deletion/2012 December 8#File:Raymond Reierson.jpg (I thought that a more appropriate venue for general discussion than DR given the small-scale discussion so far, I could of course be wrong) should you wish to weigh in. Cheers! VernoWhitney (talk) 15:43, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
I am unsure too, knowing that you feel so strongly about it; you are usually right about stuff. Getting wider input is definitely the way to go here. I will watch the discussion. -- Dianna (talk) 15:52, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! and thanks for all your help clerking these pages. -- Dianna (talk) 01:19, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

You're dead wrong

Rummel's book mentions all deaths, military and civilian, in the war. If European military deaths alone were 30 million, then I trust you can provide a statistical breakdown by country. The discussion you mentioned does not address this issue.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 00:11, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Please discuss the matter at the relevant talk page, as there are plenty of interested editors, most of whom have access to very good sources. Thanks. -- Dianna (talk) 00:16, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

End of Year Events from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in its events:

 • The December 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is currently in the submissions stage. Submit your best December copy edit there before the end of the month. Submissions end, and discussion and voting begin, on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC).
 • Voting is in progress for the November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest. Everyone is welcome to vote, whether they have entered the contest or not.
 • From Sunday 16 December to Saturday 22 December, we are holding a Project Blitz, in which we will copy edit articles tagged with {{copyedit}} from January 2012. The blitz works much like our bimonthly drives, but a bit simpler. Everyone is welcome to take part, and barnstars will be awarded.
 • January 2013 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2012. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

Coodinator election: Nominations are open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January to 30 June 2013. Nominations close on December 15 at 23:59 UTC, after which voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Khandoba - Speedy deletion

File:The origanal photo of god Khandoba temple devhara of Jejuri.jpg

Hello Dianna, I did not quite get what the reasons are for deleting the image from the Khandoba article. I would appreciate further elaboration on this matter. Thanks. Jonathansammy (talk) 14:22, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately the image qualifies for speedy deletion because the uploader did not take the picture. It was scanned from another source such as a postcard or a print. If you look around the perimeter of the image you can see a white border that shows the image is a scan and not a digital photograph. The original upload log says: "Author :- Vishal Prakash Dudhane -- Vishal1976 , Tis is the photo of God Khandoba of Jejuri temple main court , I have scaned this photo and spend 75 rupees and i had to work hard for getting this origanal image of god Khando", which demonstrates that the uploader did not take the picture, but has uploaded a scan of a print that he bought. That means we don't have permission of the original photographer. The original photographer is the person who owns the copyright on the image, and if we don't have their permission to display the photo, we are in violation of copyright law. When I investigated further, I discovered that all of this uploader's images are scans of other people's work and will have to be deleted. So sorry. -- Dianna (talk) 14:56, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Dianna. I understand. Regards. Jonathansammy (talk) 18:00, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Request for the closure of FFD

Hi! Diannaa. My humble request is : Please see this : FFD November 29, 2012. I am not worrying about things being missed nor my intention is to reminder you each and every time. Yeah! i am not saying that you are not doing administrative tasks. I know each admin has a subpage like your's "Dashboard". I am just requesting this because no admin has neither shared his/her comment nor closed the discussion. See this : One file is remaining since 14 days, after being nominated : Old discussions FFD November 29, 2012. Thank you for your support. Hope you will give a conclusion to that Conflict in Discussion. Have a nice day. -- Raghusri (talk) 18:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

No, I am not going to close that discussion. I am inexperienced at closing deletion discussions so to jump in and close a contentious one would not be a good idea. Please be patient and someone will close it. There's no deadline. -- Dianna (talk) 19:45, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Adolf Hitler lead discussion

Hello Diannaa, you have probably no doubt noted the current back-and-forth on the issue of retaining/discarding the statement of the number of casualties due to Hitler's policies. Since you and Kierzek are both the most active editors on the entry, I'm contacting you both to see whether you could have a look at the the current discussion on this topic and perhaps give your opinion, so that a plan may evolve on how to proceed. Many thanks! Malljaja (talk) 19:23, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

I don't have a strong opinion on this passage, but I will have a look, to help along the consensus-building process. Best, -- Dianna (talk) 19:47, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Hello Diannaa, thanks a lot for your prompt attention and your comments. I think they along with those from Paul and Kierzek solidify the argument for having the statement in question in the lead. I'll await further comments, and unless new evidence emerges that would suggest sustained removal or alteration of the statement, I'll go ahead and restore it. Malljaja (talk) 23:51, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Okay. Thank you so much for helping to maintain this important article. -- Dianna (talk) 23:53, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello Diannaa, not much luck with trying to preserve content at this page (see here). In light of the fruitless recent discussions, I think it may be time to bring the hammer down with this user--any thoughts/suggestions? Malljaja (talk) 18:32, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Malljaja. I see Paul Siebert made a good post at 18:56. He is planning on taking the editor to ANI if the disruption continues. I will review the recent talk page posts and cook up some variant of this . -- Dianna (talk) 19:52, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Hello Diannaa, thanks again for so promptly looking into this—to the point and clear as usual. I keep my eyes peeled for the possibility of an ANI. Best, Malljaja (talk) 21:44, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
I understand that you have only so much time available, (as have we all). Please allow me to repeat what I wrote specifically to you: that I understood your point that we do not need the sources in the lead if the info is in the article. But I asked you if you see how I am arguing that the info is an oversimplification by synthesis and not in the article with the way the disputed sentence is currently worded?
Nick-D has now agreed with me: "the sentence is essentially correct but a bit simplistic (in that Hitler wasn't the inventor of his views and the Nazi state and German society also played a key role in what took place between 1933 and 1945)..." and "...I'd suggest broadening this paragraph somewhat to acknowledge the wider responsibility for the war and the killings."
Woogie10whas also agreed with me that the the sentence is problematical and not supported by the source. He has also pointed out that he source is inaccurate: "Rummel’s figures are definitely not mainstream the definitive answer to the question of the number of Hitler’s victims. Why use him as the only source here on Misplaced Pages?".
Finally Paul Siebert, after arguing against my inference of "alone" has now contradicted his own argument by writing. "all WWII deaths except Chinese and Japanese are attributable to the policy of Nazi Germany (i.e. to Hitler's policy)."
So, final question: are you really in agreement with him, that ALL war dead in Europe are a result of "Hitler's policies"?--Mystichumwipe (talk) 06:21, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

2nd attempt at publishing an article

Hello Diannaa,

I just read that I'm supposed to notify you before attempting to publish my 2nd draft of a recently deleted article (Abby_Martin)

Jimfbleak very helpfully told me what needs to be changed; and hopefully I've done enough to satisfy Wiki's rules.

I intend to just go ahead and move it into the main space. I hope that's ok?

Beingsshepherd (talk) 03:19, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Beingsshepherd

My opinion is that the subject of the article is not notable enough for a Misplaced Pages article at this time and I have nominated it for deletion on that basis. The article you have just put up is not that different from the one that was deleted less than 24 hours ago. Perseverance is not what gets people into the encyclopedia; its notability. - Dianna (talk) 03:37, 13 December 2012 (UTC) -- Dianna (talk) 03:37, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

I changed perhaps every citation, deleted: two headed sections, much of the opening description, an alias with a dubious citation, and a trivia refrence. May I draw your attention to these seemingly accepted (and scant) Wiki pages for fellow & former 'Russia Today' television presenters?:

Hi,one more question came across my mind,if the dimensions are less than 10000 after multiplying but size is as higher as around 200 kb and inversely size is only 40-60kb but dimensions exceeds 10000 figure, then what is your opinion regarding this.Thanx---zeeyanketu 18:30, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
I think I would tag it for size reduction. The experts who do the work will take into account the number of pixels as well as the overall file size as measured in bytes. -- Dianna (talk) 18:34, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Just FYI, 1 File:Rowdy_rathore_music_poster.jpg, 218x347 is 75646, well within 100,000 pixel "bounds". No worries, and no need to go lower res, so I've reverted it. The intention is to be a viewable, but still within fair use bounds, version of the original, without infringing the owner's rights. And 2 there's a glitch with the uploader and file management system which occasionally makes it seem like a resized image has not been uploaded. A bug has been filed, but AFAIK no action has taken place. Expect weirdness until it's addressed. --Lexein (talk) 19:03, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
I see that all the time, both with additions and deletions of revisions. So no worries, I will watch closely. And thanks for the aditonal info on file size. -- Dianna (talk) 20:53, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Squid

There's possibly a glitch affecting the appearance of certain images, e.g. File:Alicanto, Inc. Logo.pdf, and although I've manually processed the files correctly in Illustrator, the thumbnails nevertheless appear badly compressed when uploaded. I'm unfamiliar with the Squid backend and essentially waiting for the developers to investigate and resolve the anomaly, but in the meanwhile I'd appreciate it if someone were to delete those Alicanto uploads as superfluous. Thanks, Mephistophelian (contact) 21:01, 18 December 2012 (UTC).

A GA Standard for The Holocaust

Thanks for giving this a try. I do understand your decision. It is a weak point in WP that competing agendas can prevent the reasonable development of an article even when one of those agendas is to improve the encyclopedic qualities of an article. I did not know that there was a DRN discussion (I have never done that before) or I might have added something although it is hard for me to understand that a 1977 personal opinion by Simon Wiesenthal--an important historical figure, but not a historian--should be accepted as an authority on the issue at hand when compared to the eminent historians referred to, thus preventing any movement ahead.Joel Mc (talk) 17:25, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Bot Proposal

Hello Diannaa! We've been in touch before. I wanted to get the opinion of another editor on something and saw you were online; what do you think about the idea of a bot to automatically update Template:Vandalism information? Updating it manually is tedious and the amount changes quickly. A bot would complement the situation perfectly IMO. I would just need to see where Huggle gets the revert count from, and if there is an API for it. What do you think of this idea? Vacation 04:37, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea, but I don't know much about bots or Huggle. There's also a potential new tool in development; see this week's Signpost and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Editor Retention/Retain new editors/Snuggle -- Dianna (talk) 04:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
